I have been saying since the Ryle game that CCH would not lose again till they faced Highlands. I had my doubts about this game with all the injuries but the Colonels and Coach Wirth seem to have Johnson Central figured out. Congratulations to the Colonels on overcoming a lot to get back to the Birds.

Why do people always mention Covcath with Highlands? Covcath gets a free ride on Highlands coattails.

absolutely......we only had 3 drives in first half.....touchdown, phantom holding penalty and rape in the end zone not called....only one third quarter drive and yes penalty again when we were driving.... 7 points will not win many but neither will phantom flags thrown....kinda reminded me of Remember the titans when it was obvious the zebras had a motive

Cov cath and JC 's motive was to win. One came up short. Deal with it graciously and move on. Develop some character your kids can emulate. Nothing you say will change the outcome.

Congratulations to Covington Catholic on the win. The key I thought was that CCH made the big plays when necessary to sustain drives in 3rd down situations. 3rd and 6, they get 7. 3rd and 8, they get 9. Overall it was a fun game and I wish both teams remaining from Region 4 to represent us well the rest of the way. Reading through some of these posts is sickening though. Like RiverRat said, many of these kids will get on here and read the comments posted by grown men trouncing everything that they have done. It was a fun ride for all of us associated with the program. Heck many predicted with it being a rebuilding year for JC to be 6-4 and a second place finish in the district. These young men exceeded those expectations and I congratulate each of them. But as the game ended, I saw the heart ache on the players faces as we said goodbye to our group of seniors and our 5 senior starters. They went above and beyond everything that they were asked and represented their school well during their time. No we didn't have the ending that we wanted but rarely does anyone. Someone has to win and someone has to lose, that is life. Tonight just wasn't our night and we lost to a very respectable opponent. After two drubbings by CCH and to field a team with over half of its starters never playing a down in a playoff game until this year, I can keep my head high as should they. So in conclusion, I tip my hat to CCH and wish them well the rest of the way. All of those that chose to make the long journey to Eagle Field, safe travels home.

 

Very nice post, and I agree with most of what you said. I pretty much said the same thing that this was supposed to be a rebuilding yeat for you guys and that you far exceeded those expectations. I didn't see a single post that tried to take away from what the kids achieved though. The post were about Coach Matney, and how his past actions have caused the feelings many have toward him.

So the refs were racist? Huh. I thought it would be a while before your arguments fell completely apart enough to have the race card played.

I have to ask JC fans and opponents- has the music always been that LOUD this year? I remember music the past few years, but holy cow, tonight was over the top. The screeching eagle was borderline assault on the ears. I love a good atmosphere with well timed music and movies quips- but the volume was downright obnoxious.

 

Great game by the Colonels. With a lot of kids dinged up, the coaches put kids in positions to succeed and it paid off.

I do. And if you were on Highlands filed tonight after the game, you would have heard the players very excited about playing the Colonels. Because they also know they are good. The emotion I saw after tonight's HHS game about next weeks game speaks volumes. And they say it's not a rivalry. Ha!
