So I sat here and read every post this morning...........

 

I have yet to see one post calling out or mentioning a JC player as has been suggested. The refs, the JC coach...certainly.....the schedule played, yes......no players.

 

Congrats to both teams on a hard fought game. The last HS game of the season, and of your career is always tough, but if there are players reading these, thank you for your commitment to the programs and after the sting subsides....and it will......keep the great memories and relationships formed through comraderie.........

I think it was 4th down. JC went for it. Announcers said he was short and then said refs gave JC a great spot. Measurement showed JC a bit short but then they measured again and it was a first down. Odd sequence when you're not able to see anything.

Who considers Covcath a good team in N Ky?

It's why I don't say much when a JC fan or two get a on here complaining about the refs. It was poor both ways. The spots in this game were bad- that one the worst.

JC player gets a tremendously generous spot- by a yard IMO. They bring out the chains- they lay it down and Cov Cath players see it short and begin to celebrate. Crew bends down, makes some adjustments, confirms a little and voila- first down. It's why I don't say much when a few rogue fans begin the whining about the refs- it was poor on both sides.

Now- about that sound system- I'm sending the insurance claim for my ear doctor tomorrow to the JC DJ crew in the booth. Terrible.

IMO, no matter how this next week turns out, CCH has rescued a season. How many teams could have weathered their middle of the season storm and come out like they have. It takes more than a team, it takes an entire program to keep that kind of faith. Congratulations to all.

I don't know how many current and past Colonels will agree but I'd want to get HHS every year in the playoffs. 1. It means you won 2 games. 2. More importantly, it gets you back on the field with the team that you are always linked to. 3. Very few playoff games can match the atmosphere of a CCH/HHS Friday night game in the Fort .

 

My son played on a really strong CCH team that simply couldn't get past the Birds. Hated to see them lose 18-0 to the Birds in this game but if they had to lose I was cool with it being this one.

We all have one.

 

It's disappointing, I have the greatest respect for CCH.

Personally, I would go with the playoff atmosphere of a CCH/HHS Saturday afternoon game in Park Hills...but it's been a while. :D

CovCath proves too tall a task again for Central

PAINTSVILLE With its upcoming talent and the path KHSAA realignment will clear for Johnson Central, the consensus is that the Golden Eagles’ best days are ahead of them.

 

Johnson Central very nearly accelerated that process by sticking within striking distance of Covington Catholic almost all the way Friday night.

But the Golden Eagles couldn’t squeeze out enough offense and were on the wrong side of a consequential early special teams play, and lost, 19-7, to the Colonels in the Class 4A region semifinals.

 

The teams have met seven times in the last nine years in the playoffs. CovCath won four of them, including the last three.

 

Johnson Central (11-1) saw its undefeated season end at the hands of the Colonels (8-4) once again.

Give Coach Matney credit, no comments or complaints about the officiating. He simply said Cov Cath made the big plays and they didn't. Also said not enough depth. Perhaps he hasn't sern Eagle Pride's game film yet.
