Not taking into account the now-known outcome of the play...JC coaches callers for a 53 yard field goal attempt in the first half when their team was up 7-6. Good play calling or bad play calling?

 

Given the HS rule (missed FG treated like a punt) and the proven leg of the JC K, I think it is a good play. Assume the same or similar chance of a punt getting blocked and returned for a TD, there is at least the upside of 3 points if he hits it well.

That seems like a fair enough assessment.

Give Coach Matney credit, no comments or complaints about the officiating. He simply said Cov Cath made the big plays and they didn't. Also said not enough depth. Perhaps he hasn't sern Eagle Pride's game film yet.

 

It's a start for him I guess. Without a doubt he needs to work on his sportsmanship.

I enjoyed the conversations with the JC folks. The JC fans I met, though rooting for their team, were very courteous and friendly.

I agree. Sportsmanship IMO is the only thing holding Coach Matney back from being one of the greats. He has taken JC football to levels in which no one else comes close to, no doubt he knows football, and maybe he doesn't care of what others think of him. His players do love to play for him and maybe that's good enough for him.
