What I find amazing about the reaction to this is that so many people are so sure that the officer was at fault, or the girl was at fault w/out all of the evidence being presented. The court of public opinion is a scary place.

 

I, just like everyone else don't know everything that occurred that led up to the shooting.

If it is found to be an unauthorized shooting then it is what it is.

The only thing we can all agree on is if she wouldn't have fled when told to stop then she would be here still and the deputy would not be going through what I can only imagine being a living hell.

 

Such a tragedy that could have simply been avoided is what makes it so sad.

That NY Daily News article includes a quote from a passenger in the car saying the deputy shot first then the driver sped up. She said that it was dead weight on the pedal after she was shot.

I have a very hard time believing this is how it happened. I can't see someone being shot and all of a sudden their foot/leg slams down on the pedal? I would think the opposite happened if anything.

 

If that's the case, how and why did the car get put in reverse? If she was already shot (and possibly dead - I know it says pronounced dead at the hospital but that's just the pronouncement and doesn't specify when she died), who put the car in reverse and why did they do so?

Depending on the circumstances, if I end up on the hood of a car (without jumping on the hood) and the driver doesn't stop, I am assuming that the driving is trying to kill me, and guess what, I will empty every round I have into the driver.

 

But, again, I do not know the circumstances, so I can't say I would have done it in this case.

Sense you have so many friends perhaps they could help you with a bit of an experiment. I'm sure one of them has a paint ball gun you can borrow. You should go jump on one of their cars while it's moving and then try to shoot at the tires while you're holding onto the hood or just jump off of it and then shoot them out. Be sure you get video of it though because as you've already showed on here someone's sworn word isn't good enough we need to see a video of it happening exactly the way you say it did.

Police are not trained to shoot out tires. Its far too difficult and dangerous. Its absolutely not an option. Why do you keep mentioning it like it is? If you really have friends in law enforcement you would know how silly it is.

Agreed about the dead weight thing. I'm not sure if her weight would have pushed her foot down on the pedal.

I think the girl in the car has shown her version of the incident doesn't hold water

I wished the audio would work, I wonder why he allowed the first car to leave but then attempted to stop the second car?

 

Is the reflection of lights on the black car from the reverse lights? I know we can't be certain but it appears to take 20 seconds before we see any reaction from the gentleman in the black car. You would think if shots were fired earlier then that he would have reacted.

I am asking the question in general with no relation to facts of this case - is fleeing in a vehicle justification for firing a weapon?

It is, if the officer felt his life, and or that of another, we're threatened.

 

Quite frankly, drawing from the video, there is way to many unknowns. I could speculate this to death with results favoring the officer or the young lady. We just don't know. Yet it is a shame so many (not meaning BGP) are quick to pull the trigger themselves and conclude one way or another.

 

The Trayvon Martin case should have taught many a lesson. Not siding with the side of that outcome. Having said that, a high percentage of people are media corrupted into their opinions.
