On Saturday, April 26, 2014 at approximately 2:10 a.m. a Boone County Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed the driver of a car from the hood of that car after the driver hit him and continued to accelerate.

 

Deputy Tyler Brockman, 28 of Boone County, Kentucky had stopped in the 6,600 block of KY-8 (River Road) to investigate a report of a field party. Brockman was out of his cruiser and ordered the driver of a car that was leaving the party and just starting out on River Road to stop. Instead, the driver accelerated hitting Brockman and causing him to land on the hood of the car. Brockman fired four (4) rounds through the windshield. The driver stopped and then backed up a short distance coming to rest in a ditch on the side of the road.

 

The driver, Samantha Ramsey, 19 of Covington, Kentucky was transported to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, Kentucky where she was pronounced. Brockman was taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, Kentucky where he was treated for a leg injury and released. Samantha Ramsey has no past record with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Brockman, one of the department’s canine deputies, has served since June of 2010.

 

Sheriff Michael A. Helmig ordered a full investigation into the incident and placed Deputy Brockman on administrative leave as policy dictates.

 

Very sad. My thoughts are with Deputy Brockman, his family, and the family of Samantha Ramsey.

No matter what you have done, never run from the police. Give yourself up and trust the system.

I feel really bad for the deputy. Also prayers out to the family of the 19 year old girl.

 

People just need to think sometimes. Is getting arrested for a DUI worse than dying? I'm so glad the deputy will be ok, foot injury is what I have heard, but for the girl to put all the other girls in the car at risk is beyond forgivable. Sad that she had to die but it was Unfortunatly deserved.

Don't run, don't hide, don't evade, don't so much as question them. You have to make your kids believe that facing you from the wrong side of the glass at the police station is not a death sentence. Running, etc. very well could be.

Couldn't have said it better and tonight being prom I am going to sit my boy down before he leaves for the dance and tell him the exact same thing.

Thankful that the deputy was not killed but sad the 19 year old felt it necessary to run over the officer. Wonder what made her freak out to that point? My guess it was chemically induced. I'm assuming a toxicology report will be done.

Agreed, and as a parent you can deal with it, but you cannot bring them back from the dead. Sad situation.

Oh my gosh. I'm sure her family and the deputy both are going through absolute torment. No officer wants to be in that sad position. And kids, PLEASE think before doing, some actions you can't come back from.

What is also sad about situations like this is when you read comments on social media about this. Ignorant people on both sides letting their voices be heard and showing true ignorance. Of course it didn't take long for people to start making comments such as "He should of shot the tires out" stupid people should bot be allowed to watch cop shows on tv, and of course you have the cop bashers out there making statements claiming the cops are all thugs and they want to kill people etc.

 

The one thing wrong with social media these days is how easy it is to show true ignorance. You can never hide behind ignorance.

Sad! As soon as I saw field party I said: it's a teenager.
