I have heard several stories one in which he jumped on the hood? Why would someone jump on a moving car?

 

Two options when a moving car is coming at you quickly - you go under it ie you die or you jump on the hood to avoid option 1.

 

Why would an officer CHOOSE to jump on the hood of a car if he didn't need to?

I don't understand why police have to shoot to kill. They could shot somebody in the arm or leg when trying to stop someone.

You can never put yourself in the officers shoes unless you are there.

 

If a vehicle speeds up to run you over and hits you as you end up on the hood and the driver then accelerates as has been reported, I'm sure his first thought was saving his own life, how did he do that? By stopping the person he felt was trying to kill him. He shot her, it was an awful situation and I garuntee you if he had his wishes he would have loved it to be a Hollywood script where he could actually fire off a shot that miraculously strikes a rock which ricochets into the engine block dismantling the vehicle at that instant so he could slide off the hood of the car after it has come to a safe and complete stop and have the girl calmly step out of the vehicle and cuff herself and place herself in the back of his cruiser.

 

Unfortunatly this wasn't a Hollywood movie and the officer may have, and for good reason, felt his life was in grave danger and did what he thought would end the threat the quickest and shooting the driver was what possibly could have saved his life as well as possibly others on the road. There is no "Shooting out the tires" kind of stuff here. I've seen too many stupid comments on FB already from ignorant people who have watched too many cop shows and movies who think its as simple as that.

 

far as shooting someone in the leg or arm, if I was in the situation like that I would not be hanging on for dear life with one hand while holding a weapon in the other thinking "if I can get a shot of her leg while ontop of a hood of an accelerating vehicle I sure hope I can see a part of her leg that will not injur her too badly so she will slow down and come to a stop". Sorry UK, I'm not concerned with where the suspect is struck, just that it saves my own life.

I think we will see much more about the incident when the facts come out. Feel horrible for all involved. Hope says some can learn from the unfortunate incident.

I hate to speculate, but if she was I'd guess that would explain the not seeing him or not realizing he was talking to her

Some rumblings his dash cam caught a good portion if not all of the confrontation. If that becomes available soon I would say it will totally back up the officers side of the story.

Report seems to say suggest that this girl was looking to leave the party when the officer told her to stop.

 

Will an attorney claim that the officer had no legal right to stop her unless she was showing signs of DWI? If so, will that argument fly? Did he have a right to tell her stop her car? Can he order sobriety tests for everyone at the party ?

Do you realize how stupid it would be to shoot at someone's arm when they are trying to kill you? Not only stupid, it would also be incredibly difficult.

Will an attorney claim that the officer had no legal right to stop her unless she was showing signs of DWI? If so, will that argument fly? Did he have a right to tell her stop her car? Can he order sobriety tests for everyone at the party ?

 

That might be a case for a civil suit but not criminally against him imo.

I read in an article that she was arrested in 2013 for DUI.

To me the most likely scenario is still that she didn't know she was being asked to stop. I have a very hard time believing (no sources or info, just a hunch) that she was trying to run over the officer. DUI or no DUI in the past I can't get to her trying to run down an officer b/c she was drinking and driving again if she was.

Just an unfortunate situation.

 

From the sounds of it, the cop had no other options. Sad for all involved.
