I told my boys we can deal with whatever you've done....underage drinking, drugs, shoplifting...we can't bring you back from the dead. Don't run, don't hide, don't evade, don't so much as question them. You have to make your kids believe that facing you from the wrong side of the glass at the police station is not a death sentence. Running, etc. very well could be.

THANK YOU! I wish more people would think like you! Kids are kids, and for some reason their worse fear is facing mom and dad if they get caught doing something wrong. If some parents would tell their kids "I don't approve of you drinking (if that is the case), but if you do, do NOT drive anywhere! And do NOT ride with anyone who has been drinking! I promise you, that if you call me in this situation, I will respect you for not taking a risk of driving after drinking or getting into a car with someone who has, we can handle this together".

 

But kids don't want to call their parents as they are afraid of punishment, and they think they are okay to drive or okay to get in the car with a friend who has been drinking, they think they will be safe, but they are wrong.

Agreed. Tyler is a fine young man, and will have to deal with this for the rest of his life. Sad incident all the way around for sure.

I am no sympathy for the criminal.

Witnesses saying she didn't know the cop was even talking to her and it happened so quick it seemed like the cop jumped on the windshield. So tragic. This won't bring her back but I hope for her family's sake she really just was confused. I'd hate it if a family member of mine intentionally tried to run over a cop. In the end the officer has to protect himself. Just so sad.

Sounds like a perfect storm of events. For people to say stuff about her not being a threat due to age, being a female and priors, etc are not being objective. No way Tyler could've known her age, intent, etc. Dark road, split second decision. Having personally gone up on the good of a car before, the "jumping" on the hood is all reaction, cause the alternative is going under the car. I'm sure the last thing Tyler wanted to do that night was die and the 2nd to last thing was to take someone's life.

A 19 year old girl is tragically dead, and you have no sympathy? I really feel bad for you.

Agreed! That was someone's daughter, grand daughter, ect. Sad situation for all involved. I am sure the deputy has sympathy for her, and will re-think what happened and what else could have happened for a very long time.

It would be kinda hard to shoot someone in the leg while laying on the hood of a moving car and shooting through the windshield.

 

FWIW police officers are NEVER trained to shoot in the armor leg as someone shot in the arm or leg can still shoot back, stab or drive over you.

She was about to run over him. He could have fallen to the ground and let her run over him and probably kill him or try to jump on the hood and survive.
