We know that some of the eye witnesses already appear to be liars. I believe one girl in the car said something to the extent that they didn't know he wanted them to stop...could be wrong on that though. I'm sure someone here has the quote. I believe that was the same eye witness that said he jumped on the hood of the car.

In the video you can see that the cops lights are on and no one can say they did not know he was talking to her. It is obvious and with the lights on she should have stopped immediately upon being approached by him.

Outside of circumstantial evidence, i.e. being at a field party at 2 in the morning, no. If I were a gambling man, I would assume that she had had a couple or was high. I have been to enough field parties to know that you can count non-drinkers on one hand. However, that is just presumption and assumption on my part. The toxicology report could help the officer.

And the shooting happens between 20 to 30 seconds after leaving the camera view. No way to know what transpired in that time frame.

 

He was beside her car and was between her car and his cruiser, she very easily could have been in the process of intentionally or inadvertently pinning him between the two cars.

If she stopped he could've easily walked in front of her car in the 20-40 seconds they are out of the picture.

Prob is before we saw the video it sounded like he was standing there and she came directly at him basically trying to mow him down which would make sense of his self defense.

 

The video shows otherwise and if she did hit him which it sounds like she sure did, he put himself in front of the car trying to stop her. I think in that case you have all possible procedural issue.

 

I know it's easy to speculate, I'm sure Sherrif Helmig will get to the bottom of it.

What a sad and tragic incident this was/is. Finally got to see the video for the first time. In my mind, there is only three things that are absolutely certain.

 

1) The young men/women shouldn't have been at this field

2) The girl who died accelerated as the cop approached her and didn't stop when instructed

3) The cop exits the camera and almost a full minute later the tragedy occurs.

 

There is NO WAY anyone can say for certain what happened from the video. It seems a lot of people are wanting to put blame without proof. There is no audio (as of now) or footage that can prove what happened either way. My prayers go out to the girl's family and may they find the answers and peace they seek and may she rest in peace forever. My prayers also go out to the policeman and his family. Just a sad, sad story all around.

My only question is in what form of a non-threatening traffic stop, does any officer ever put themselves in FRONT of a vehicle. Training teaches proper approach with caution, as we see in the video. All events that takes place after that will be exposed in court only by the officer and multiple eye witnesses, not a bunch couch potato critics/wanna be lawyers. I read the posts hear and see a lot of personal feelings being inserted into what each of you think may have happened, or how you hope this turns out in the end. No matter what we think about how it happened, a child is dead, and an officer is probably mentally scarred for life. So what joy can anyone get out of trying to be right about this incident?

136 police officers were killed over the last 9 years after being "Struck by a vehicle".

 

Considering various scenarios is fine.

 

Which is exactly why officers are not trained to get in front of a vehicle. Running along side it is a little different if he's trying to order the driver to stop. Now if that driver turns into him well then that's where everything changes. Everything that happened and how it happened matters. Like someone said previously it's the totality of the circumstances.
