I think the video is bad for the officer but the eye witnesses are much worse for him. I think this will cost the county at least 6 figures in a civil suit.

But if she was drunk and he lets her go without checking her (after all she was coming from a field party, good chance she may have been drinking) and she goes down the road and kills everybody in her car and maybe some in another car, everyone would be complaining that the officer let her go without checking her and did nothing to stop her.

After watching the video I have to say that her keaving with the possibility of being drunk and possibly wrecking and killing everyone in her car is no different than the officer shooting the driver abd having the car wreck into a ditch . It appears that the officer should had let her go and call it in and focus on the people who were there. He was only one officer and wasn't going to get everyone.

I'll wait for the officers side of what happened. You can't tell anything from the video. She could have easily passed too close to his cruiser forcing him between her car and his and leaving him no alternative then to jump on her hood.

No doubt what happens then and can be proved will help his cause. He could be 100% justified, but he is facing two extremely stressful things, one having to shoot and kill someone and facing a thorough investigation and more than likely a trial or process to settlement. Both of those are unimaginable stress.

 

I read today that Boone County is doing the investigation and probably should initially. However, it might be in their best interest to get the State Police to do so also. I have to trust they will do it fairly, but in a case that is probaly going to be front page news, I'd want to be sure all bases were covered.

So focus on one car while everyone else leaves ? Don't get me wrong more evidence may shed a whole new light, but from what I saw the officer should not have ended up on her hood.

This video helps the officer's version of the story. The WLWT video I posted earlier was obviously edited down for TV. With this video, there is a good amount of time (40-50 seconds as others posted above) that goes by off camera from when the officer told her to stop and she drove on. The video by itself with no audio doesn't tell us much at all about what happened that led to the shooting.

Time is money on the news. They are going to edit video to fit into the news cast.

Ch 5 on their FB page just put a link up for the video. They also in that page have the unedited raw dash cam video with no sound but it does shine a better light on what occurred.

 

The news should be ashamed on how they showed their edited version on their telecast.

 

They made it look as if as soon as the Veh was out of the camera view the officer fired the shots. That isn't what happened at all. There was a good 40 secs that passed before the vehicle came to a stop. There was apparently a lot more that occurred than the news showed which is a shame.

 

They did the officer no favors.
