January 9, 201412 yr The fact that non-UL fans don't approve of the hire just tears me apart inside... I don't know how I'll get over it. I have seen a mix of opinions. On both sides.
January 9, 201412 yr Perfectly fine with the hire. I just wonder if all of the people who live in glass houses, do they worry about the personal imperfections/marriages of their doctor, dentist, insurance agent, banker, pharmacist, etc? Nope. Oh, that's right…they aren't, "role models" of young men (when they should be as well). But, it's kind of funny how people pick and choose when to pull the doctor/lawyer > coach/athlete card. People can talk about him changing schools all they want, the fact is, it's his screw up at Arkansas with his mistress that causes the problem. That's it. I don't here people bashing the Tom Brady's for leaving his girlfriend of three years (who I think at the time was his fiancé) while she was a few months pregnant with his first child for another woman (during the pregnancy at that). Talk about a crappy move (while we are talking about moral flaws). At least Petrino has tried to reconcile the situation. The only people he needs to get right with are his God and his wife, and other than that, it's none of my business. Nor do I care. I will say this, I think this needs to be his final stop. I'm all for people moving around to better themselves within their respected profession, but there also comes a time when to obey the ole "Don't bite the hand that feeds you." Here is guessing he has gotten things right again with his wife & family…I just hope he does the same throughout his tenure at Louisville & for the rest of his career. Hey now, don't go bringing Tom Brady into this! Tom Brady is a saint! A saint!
January 9, 201412 yr I don't think UK fans are disapproving of the hire, it's more of making fun of UL and their fans of hiring a guy who cheated in them and wants to get back in a relationship. Kind of like a fat chick with no self confidence. As a UK fan I'm all for this hire. A proven scumbag who has an impeccable track record for ruining programs. And since he will most likely ruin UL then I'm thrilled!

Hey, maybe UT will hire him back in a couple of years as well. I think UL made a mistake in hiring Petrino though, believe they could have done better.

To me that tells me they are going to use each other. Petrino will keep UL relevant and if(when) he leaves in a few years UL could be more attractive than it is now. At the same time, every coaching hire is a gamble. When I walk into a casino I know am I going to lose some money. I still walk in though. What if Petrino does stay at UL and what if he succeeds? Gamble paid off then didn't it?

In the spirit of "Name that Tune" I'll predict Petrino leaves in two notes ( seasons ) or less. Curious as to whether a HC has ever beaten UK two consecutive seasons coaching two different teams?

"We had to clear out a lot of discipline issues, and our numbers suffered. We cleared 21 kids out of here, and that's a lot. That's a big hit for anybody to take, Eric. I don't know anyone who has, but we want to do things the right way".

January 9, 201412 yr Why does Petrino get blamed for The discipline problems after he left? Petrino had very little issues while he was the coach. Just tells me how bad Kragthorpe was. He came in and said he was a laid back coach. In college football you cant be laid back. You have to be on top of things. Petrino left Krags with 19 starters back off an orange bowl team and he destroyed it. I havent read all the other post but I think its a good hire for UofL from a coaching stand point. Its well documented that Petrino has character flaws. Hopefully he has changed that. Time will tell. If UofL is looking for someone to stay I actually believe He is the best choice. He has already tested the NFL and he has already been in the SEC so he has had a shot at the big time. If you continue to hire mid level coaches or O/C & D/C from top programs they are not gonna stay. If they have any success they are gonna leave as soon as a major job is open. These coaches do not see UofL as major stop. If you hire the O/C from Clemson realistically how long would he stay if he wins. Petrino has a lot to prove and I think that will motivate him to make it right. I dont think Jurich would hire him and put his reputation on the line if he didnt think Petrino would do it the right way.
