January 9, 201412 yr Is there a story about Jurich's decision to rehire Petrino yet? I'd love to hear his perspective on why he chose Petrino again. You don't need a story for that. UL needs the surest bet in going to a big boy league. They can't make the wrong hire and fall to the bottom of the ACC and out of the national spotlight. Petrino gives the best shot of that.

After Petrino left for Atlanta 21 players that he recruited were dismissed form the team prompting Jurich to infer that he had not run things the right way by not having discipline in the program and not bringing in the right kind of kids! Jurich own words how in the world does he now bring him back especially in light of the things that went on in Arkansas? Has he lost his mind or is he that desparate to win to give up all trust and integrity! Just a very sad black eye for jurich and UL as my son told me last night he will never go to a game again as long as he is coach and he is not alone!

January 9, 201412 yr True he did. But Krags was struggling and I think it was an effort to take the pressure off of Krags put plame on Petrino. Krags had issues the whole time he was there with players. Lets be honest when you have 100 or so kids to look after you better be tough on them. Discipline issues are gonna happen at every school. I just dont think you win the way he does without discipline. When fired from Arkansas I believe they were pre-season top 10. John L Destroyed them in one year. Another coach who has a cavalier approach to discipline. My biggest concern with Petrino is can he win and graduate kids like Strong did.

January 9, 201412 yr Seen on ESPN that the deal is for 7 years. What's the point of that deal because we all know he won't be there more than 4. Also read that there is a substantial buyout clause.

He had very little issues when he was the coach. Kragthorpe is the one who had no discipline. As mentioned earlier, you cant be laid back in college football. I think at the time Jurich was deflecting the pressure on Krags to blame petrino. Petrino also left Krags with 19 starters off a Orange bowl team.

Are you really naive enough to believe once he put on the red suit his morality and character changed? Please, get real. I don't think they've became a laughing stock. UK hired a drunk, but everyone thought it BCG was a good hire at the time. UL hired a guy who cheated on his wife, and leaves programs prematurely, so be it. He wins and unfortunately, that is all that matters. If good guys were allowed to keep their jobs (as touched on earlier in this thread) then Tubby and Joker would still be at UK!
January 9, 201412 yr I need everybody to list what schools you cheer for in D-1 football so I can see these role models of good character that don't win that you root for. Wouldn't UK qualify for this? After Hal Dumme the UK coaches were pretty good guys to the best of my knowledge but I believe all four have losing records at UK.
January 9, 201412 yr If UofL is looking for someone to stay I actually believe He is the best choice. He has already tested the NFL and he has already been in the SEC so he has had a shot at the big time. If you continue to hire mid level coaches or O/C & D/C from top programs they are not gonna stay. If they have any success they are gonna leave as soon as a major job is open. These coaches do not see UofL as major stop. If you hire the O/C from Clemson realistically how long would he stay if he wins. This was my thought on perhaps the best reason for hiring Petrino. I don't think any college program with a job considered better than UL would consider hiring Petrino in the next 3, 4 maybe 5 years. With all the job changing and other issues, no top tier program is going to take a chance on Petrino in the next few years - maybe never. As big a vagabond Petrino has been, I could see him staying at UL for a while. UL needs a coach to stick for a while to avoid being labeled as a stepping stone job.
