I really didn't think I'd be opening up such a can of worms when I tossed the word gang out there. Like you said RB it looks like a gang related, I mean group related murder to me.

Gangs have been in Covington since the 90s.

Then what are these 2 factions?

 

TH-Planes Gang/S1G - Peterson led

 

Lane/1200 Gang - Kids arrested and charged.

 

 

I guess gangs had nothing to do with it. Sounds to me like these so called factions have names.....hmmmmmmm?:idunno:

I apologize for any confusion, but my original post should have been written in sarcastic font. What I meant to point out was that Covington is being completely ridiculous. "Rival factions of teenagers" are precisely "gangs".

Sitting here right now looking our my work window at the New Kenton County Jail wondering what the heck were those young men thinking throwing their lives away and taking another one with them. Simply a sad situation for our society! I reminded my 13 year daughter just the other day of how good of a life she has presently living under our roof.

..............Detective Brian Kane of the Covington Police Department testified that the events that led to Peterson's murder included boiling tensions between to rival factions of youth with the most recent occurrence being a fist fight between them on the Saturday before the shooting.

 

That fight was over someone's marijuana.

 

Peterson was part of a rap group known as Th'Planes. The suspects are associated with a group known as the Same One Gang.

 

Reginald Bates, 19, Hassan Abdullah, 18, and Eugene Smith, 18, James Young, 18, and Jamell Darden, 20, are all charged with murder, while Mikyle Holloway, 19, is charged with tampering with physical evidence. Each appeared in court Thursday while two juveniles, also charged with murder, will appear in court at a later date.

 

Holloway's charge is lesser than the others because he is not placed in one of the three vehicles that made their way from Latonia Terrace to Austinburg on October 27. He was part of a divided group that spent time in his apartment deciding whether retaliation against Peterson and Th'Planes was necessary.

When interrogating the police probably laugh at these types of criminals. They're all soft, mentally. If they weren't they wouldn't be in the situation in the first place.

 

Senseless. All of it, not just the murder but everything that led up to it.

Sounds like things just escalated after the melee and poor decisions were made that will now ruin lives.

Growing up in Covington its the same thing over and over. The city or the police don't consider the local gangs "real" gangs because hardly are affiliated with some of the National gangs. City officals will laugh when asked about them and say they aren't "real" gangs. Then those "fake" gangs continue to commit "real" crimes.

When one of the defense lawyers asked if the defendants were gang members, (detective) Kane drew a laugh from an otherwise tense courtroom crowd by saying he considered the six defendants friends who got in trouble instead of a gang.

 

Hmmm …

Exactly, all started over a beef over someone's marijuana..... The life some folks choose is just sad, very very sad.
