The term Gang related comes to mind when that many people are involved. Will we hear that term in the future Walter?

This isn't knew . Those saying back in the day . This has been going on in Covington in spurts for years. 17th and greenup had a violent summer back in 2000. Died down because a lot of the gang went to jail.

Police don't seem to think there is much in way of gangs:

 

Neither Jones nor Sanders chalked the crime up to gang activity. "We don't have much in the way of gangs in Covington," Sanders said.

 

"We don't have your basic types of gang activity you see in other metropolitan cities," Jones concurred.

Yup - which is why I posted that. I have lived in Covington last three years. While I have never had an issue, or been scared - you do need to be careful and observant. I have seen somethings that made me think some bad things are going on. But to be honest - I feel the same way in other cities around time. Elsmere and Erlanger both have areas that are just as 'shady' to me.

I also was told that one of the accused was wearing a gang sweatshirt at school last week. The sweatshirt was confiscated and the mother was called about the situation. The mother totally denied that her son was involved in gang activity. Now he is in jail for murder.. Wow!!!

If the city if Covington finally does the right thing and acknowledge that they have gangs, can't they get money to go up against them? Put all if them behind bars!

I think they may have access to state or federal funding like you have mentioned but that's where it get's tricky. The city council has been talking about dumping millions of dollars back into the community sidewalks, parks and new businesses. If they all of the sudden start to step up and go toe to toe with local gangs(regardless of how small or unorganized they may be) they may fear that it could lower moral or scare away possible investors.

Apparently there are gangs in Newport as well from what some people are posting on Topix.

 

I hope all these gang bangers are satisfied because they are all being charged with complicity to commit murder. They better learn how to play table and chairs once they get in because Bubba and Ringo are going to teach them soon enough.
