Typical........instead of just dealing with the teams that have the issues in a matter that would make a difference, they apply the rule to everyone and affect those that have never had an issue......

The home uniform rule is a similar matter........instead of going to the 4 or 5 teams that do not have white home uniforms (Campbell, Ryle, etc) and enforcing the rule telling them to change to white, they create another rule that makes everyone buy new uniforms, even if they just have 3 simple stripes on them........

Once again KHSAA is.......mind blowing.

ok...I see they merged soccer and football thread......so my previous comment about Campbell and Ryle's home uniform may not make sense to the Football guys........They were not white.....they were yellow and orange...

Thanks, I had to clear up my post too.

Has there been a recent spate of bad behavior?

Has there been a recent spate of bad behavior?

My question as well. Can someone point to a specific KHSAA football game this year or last where this turned into a nightmare? :idunno:

Has there been a recent spate of bad behavior?

In the directive posted above it says there have been incidents this fall in three different sports - soccer, volleyball and football. I have seen things happen in the handshake line after after a game more than once.

The two endings I know of were in soccer.ST Pats and Mason county had a fight that included about 8 players and the Ryle team after their loss in regionals going after the center referee.

Hope the golfers don't get out of control and try to shake hands after their state matches this week.

Shut the front door......What kind of sportsmanship are we teaching our children. My team will shake hands!

I've seen things come close to happening, especially in football. I may get flamed for this, but really, the postgame handshake is such an empty gesture. It's not done because anyone wants to do it....it's because we've been forced to do it. And I doubt anyone learns or takes anything away from the postgame handshake, or suddenly becomes a changed person. You spend 1-2 hours in game respecting each other, competing, learning, creating lasting memories. The postgame handshake is a duty you're made to perform before you go home. Whether it's done or not doesn't change anything or anyone's life.

It's kind of sad that coaches can't instill sportsmanship to their players and some coaches not able to control their own emotions after a game that it has come to this.

I still think one of the neatest traditions in all of sport is in Hockey where all players shake hands after every game.

In just the last year I witnessed or read about 3 different incidents I'm pretty proud of and owe all the credit to Coach Borchers. Last year in a playoff game at Anderson Co there were 2 incidents late in the game that took place on kickoffs where 1 AC player singled out a particular Cooper player and got pretty rough with him, should of been tossed from the game but wasn't. But the Cooper player both incidents didn't retaliate at all. Why? It was instilled in the players from the coach all season long and reinforced before they started the playoffs.

2nd incident last year was when the officials awarded Cooper with the sportsmanship award for the 2nd time. Again a direct result of the coaches teaching the players the correct way to act before, during and after games.

The 3rd was a remark I heard on BGP after the Scott game this year. Something like "I applaud the sportsmanship of the Cooper players, I've never seen an opposing team help as many if their opponents off the ground after each play". That speaks volumes about the character instilled in the young men.

The incidents that caused KHsaa to make this change is sad and only wish teams across the country would take a step back and remember it's only a game and to have fun.
