So who are some of the players on the sidelines that the coach needs to get involved? You make it sound like there are players not getting a chance that could make a difference.

 

This is followed by JOAT calling for the best 11 to play defense. That would suggest maybe even less kids in the rotation.

 

Bottom line is Beechwood has a special group this year. Birds need to take care of business the rest of the way and then if there is a freshmen championship game they will get another shot at the Tigers.

Coaches don't care about keeping children entertained or engaged. Players need to keep their helmets on, be attentive, and ready themselves to play. If players do these and other things, they increase their chances of playing.

Congratulations to Beechwood. Beechwood is the real deal. Stringer was dominant. Just too big and fast. Without Stringer Beechwood is the best team in NKY. With him they are too much. I was really impressed with Beechwood's speed to the ball. They also blocked well at the point of attack. A couple times Highlands looked like they would take Stringer down and he cut back and just outran the crowd.

 

Highlands next opponent is NewCath. I expect a focused, sober week of practice to get ready of the Breds.

Someone will have to verify, but I think NCC beat Dixie this week, 8-0? They lost a shootout to Campbell county 36-33? Lost to Beechwood early in the year by a few touchdowns.

This Beechwood freshman group is a special group. Glad to see they're still doing well. I haven't seen the HHS freshman play, but I'm sure they'll be just fine.

Throwing the ball 10 times instead of 3 is not really abandoning the running game... Other than one really good run by JD, BW really didn't give up much. But I do agree on the shorter, intermediate routes... They should be the "Bread and Butter" of the passing game with only a couple shots down the field.

Well, that bad beating Beechwood gave NewCath was just put in proper perspective. Beechwood is that good. Looking forward to seeing next week's game. Highlands will use this as fuel, NewCath will already be fired up due to playing the Birds. Should be a fun game.

Stringer gathering all the praise, and trust me I agree kid is a special talent, but the play in the trenches was dominated by BW. Braden Combs, at 6'4 215, is simply unstoppable on both sides of the ball. His agility and blocking ability at TE are is off the charts for a frosh. What you didn't see last night was his abilities as a pass catcher. When he didn't make the plays on D, the two lbs were there making what seemed like every tackle. Little taken aback by some of the comments on here, last I checked BW has a few trophies in the case as well. We don't live for freshman football wins, but we certainly are looking forward to the future. The sophomore class is very good as well, should be fun.

Exactly! HHS fans need to remember that after that Dixie butt whipping in 2008, those 2 classes met 5 more times at the varsity level with HHS winning all five by a total of 246-64. These guys got beat badly but they will learn from it and respond. Just be patient.

Absolutely agree with the helmet situation. Kids don't even know what it's like to play on dirt anymore. I had a kid say at one of the FTJFL games, "It's raining, what are we supposed to do about the ball getting wet?" I said that you need to learn how to play with a wet ball! The other team is playing with a wet ball too! I just feel that some of these kids have become too entitled. When I played at HHS, we strapped our helmets on tight after pulling the ear-holes apart just to get it on. Then we weren't permitted to take that helmet off or even unstrap it until we got back into the locker room. This included away games. This happens to be one thing that I truly liked and to this day still respect about the previous regime. You have no idea how much time is wasted every single game in the junior leagues waiting for a kid to even find their helmet, get it on, get it snapped and be ready to go. Here's a tip, if you want to play, stand next to the coach with your helmet on and ready to go in. Not sitting over on the bench talking with other kids or talking to people in the stands! The only time kids had their helmet off was if the were on a stretcher when I played. Another serious issue are these kids that are strapping their helmet so loose that they can slide it on and off. Look at Peyton and Eli Manning. When their helmets come off they have a red mark on their forehead. That's how a helmet is supposed to fit. Maybe this is why the concussion rate has jumped so drastically?

You played one of the two other teams (besides Highlands) in NKY who experience the thrill of being everyone else's super bowl .. and this is what you come up with?

You totally misread everything in this post. My points were that Beechwood was much more enthused prior to, during and after the game than Highlands ever was. Stringer is a difference maker that is for sure. Highlands defense plays with no desire to make plays by getting off blocks and flying to the football other than Bradford. Little do you know how much I know about this group of athletes from both Beechwood and Highlands. The Beechies are a good group that came to play and Highlands is a good group that showed up and went through the motions, period, end of story. Hopefully they would get to meet again this year down the road, but that is very doubtful. Good luck to both teams down the road and hopefully each can continue to have success.

I'm curious what coach Rash will do when he is approached by Mueller here the next couple of months about a new series between these 2 storied programs. Would love to have been a fly on the wall last night when he was told Beeechwood laid the wood to his Frosh program. I was talking to a Beechwood Frosh parent last night that knows a little about football. He said he would love to see these 2 teams play again in 3 years. His comment was, it won't even be close......Also, when does Beechwood hold their lock-em night. Because I was told by that same parent that possibly 2-3 of their Frosh Players might be crossing the Licking river next year. Get them locked in fellas!!!! Lol...

Great point, the battle was won at the line of scrimmage, as with any team if you don't win the battle up front, you don't win the game. Thought the O and D line of BW held up well to a darn good Highlands line.

I am not sure who #74 and #71 for Highlands are, but they were beasts! Not to say the other kids weren't good, but those two stood out IMO. Dale will be well stocked in a few years with these kids.

If he knows anything about football, then he should have meant that it won't be close to the game we saw last night. A great deal changes from Freshman to Senior years. Beechwood beat Highlands Similarly 4 years ago. Does anyone believe that the Beechwood team last year would have Beaten Highlands? Sorry Tiger fans, No f'ing way. I'm a Beechwood fan, but you have to be realistic and look at history. Highlands builds great teams, no matter what building materials they are given to start with. My personal belief is that we need to regularly beat the 2nd place team in their district before attempted to add another NKY power to the schedule. Do any other Beechwood fans remember our sideline a couple years ago when we played Highlands? Our boys went all out and our Sideline looked like a MASH unit. I guarantee the Beechwood Trainer remembers that game.

 

Parents of great Beechwood Freshman teams quite often push reality aside in their assessments. This may very well be the best Beechwood Freshman team ever. It certainly doesn't automatically translate to a great Varsity team two or three years later.
