You totally misread everything in this post. My points were that Beechwood was much more enthused prior to, during and after the game than Highlands ever was. Stringer is a difference maker that is for sure. Highlands defense plays with no desire to make plays by getting off blocks and flying to the football other than Bradford. Little do you know how much I know about this group of athletes from both Beechwood and Highlands. The Beechies are a good group that came to play and Highlands is a good group that showed up and went through the motions, period, end of story. Hopefully they would get to meet again this year down the road, but that is very doubtful. Good luck to both teams down the road and hopefully each can continue to have success.

Upfront .... I definitely got the points that you were making about the Birds ....

Things got confusing for me when you spoke to Beechwood's "super bowl"

If there was any extra motivation (besides the fact that this team is locked in ... and committed to doing the right things) ... personally ... I would point to the fact that they had a bye last week. (I agree that that point alone could definitely help or hurt the Tigers)

 

The other part ... is where Stringer was mentioned.

The only piece that I wanted to be clear about there ... was the fact that there were many contributions from other players last night.

 

And it seems like we have at least one thing in common (which would be my knowledge of Beechwood).

 

I have absolutely zero beef with any assessments that you made regarding the Birds.

I cannot speak intelligently about their freshman team ... so I have no reason to discount your points.

Since I was not there, would it have been competitive in the 2nd half if HHS scores after the interception in 2Q? Summary says HHS started drive at BW 31. Followed by a 63 yd. TD run with 29 seconds left in the half, seems like it could easily have been tied or a 1 point game at half if HHS converts on the TO.

 

Good to see these 2 strong programs playing each other at any level. You only get better when you are tested.

 

Good question. Was all Tigers most of first half, and I honestly thought after going up 13-0 it was time to fire up that Croswell they rolled in on. When BW got the ball back. I made comment that another td would do it. Then the fumble and ensuing birds td followed by the pick, all of a sudden it felt like a game. Had they been able to score, momentum was all on their side. Couple the stop on 4th down with the long td run right before half and the 2nd half was just a formality, really took the wind out of highlands sails.

Let me ask the question to those who were at the game last night. What would the score have been if Beechwood does not turn over the ball twice?

I think if Tigers don't get have turnover (interception) it would have gotten really ugly. That gave some life to the Bluebirds.

 

What happened on the that pass? Was Fieger's arm stopped or hit when throwing. Had to be the worst thrown ball he has ever had.

The only thing I would correct in your analysis is that Beechwood made a stop on the

4th and 2 play. Very surprised at the play call number 1 and it was very poorly executed number 2. I would much rather have seen them run the ball there over Robinson and Hebel with either the RB or QB carrying the ball. Also felt that Highlands could have gotten a first down on the 3rd down play if the RB squares his shoulders up and runs through the tackler rather than continuing towards the sidelines where the defender is able to maintain a good tackling angle. Hopefully that will improve with a little more experience, confidence and effort. May have been a different game if they punch it in there and take the lead. The hope would have been that you might be able to pin them deep in their own territory to start the 2nd half and perhaps get another scoring opportunity. We all know that if "If's and But's were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas."

Highlands has yearly contract with Croswell, Distance doesn't matter. Team will travel by charter to all away games.

Highlands couldn't stop Beechwoods passing game. The balanced offensive game plan was the difference.
