Beechwood 34 Highlands 13 (Frosh)

Featured Replies

For some reason I am thinking that ended up about a 3 TD margin also. Maybe it was just two TD's. I think Beechwood led most of the game and added on as the game went on. If someone is good at searching threads on here, I am sure there is a thread that has the score and details.

I remember it being a 1 score game in the 4th qtr. Highlands stopped Beechwood and we were punting from deep in our own territory. Dale Mueller stepped in and tried to switch out the Punt Returner and the Birds got a penalty for 12 men on the field giving Beechwood a First down. I don't remember the rest, but that was the play of the game. It may have turned into a big lead, but it was a game in the 4th qtr.

Before you say Dale doesn't coach Freshman, I know that. I specifically remember seeing him try to take over when he saw Beechwood winning.

Beechwood 36 Highlands 21

Congratulations to Beechwood. Beechwood is the real deal. Stringer was dominant. Just too big and fast. Without Stringer Beechwood is the best team in NKY. With him they are too much. I was really impressed with Beechwood's speed to the ball. They also blocked well at the point of attack. A couple times Highlands looked like they would take Stringer down and he cut back and just outran the crowd.

Highlands next opponent is NewCath. I expect a focused, sober week of practice to get ready of the Breds.

Sounds like Highlands knows who Stringer is!

Yep! He's a great BEECHWOOD football player. Thanks!

Congrats to the Tigers for an impressive win. Fieger is the real deal at QB with some really nice passes. I was really impressed with the discipline of the Tiger team. No really terrible mistakes. It's nice to see a sideline with every player with their helmet on and paying attention to the game. Seems like the Highlands sideline was too busy having social hour. HHS twice had to call time outs in the first half due to the slot reciever not knowing where to line up. As a 'Bird from way back, it's disappointing to see over half of the kids with their helmets off and "chatting" during the game. Since when did that become acceptable?

Enough of the rant... The coaches did open the playbook and Krieger did a pretty good job. A little confusion with the routes caused some missed opportunities but with more time in the passing game that will be better. Dorherty didn't have much to run through as the Beechies did a nice job filling the holes. Some nice catches helped spread the field. Highlands could use some coaching in tackling... Not sure why they always feel like they need to tackle aroung the shoulder pads, but Beechwood runners gained extra yards on most plays after the first contact.

Maybe if the coach gets all the kids involed and not just 15 it would be diffrent on the sidelines.

I really have to laugh at some of these posts on both sides of the ledger. Beechwood clearly outplayed the Birds from the opening whistle which was rather disappointing. It was Beechwood's Super Bowl and Highlands did not look like they cared at all. No emotion and no heart, just going through the motions. Beechwood would not be as good as they are without Stringer and this game would be much closer without him playing for the Beechies. Highlands defense in one word is "awful". Too many kids that do not want to make plays and thus get pushed all over the field. Problem is not just tackling technique, it is also desire which is lacking in many. Maybe it is time to put your best 11 on defense and sub in from time to time and keep kids fresh. Yes Highlands did attempt to throw a little more and Kreeger did a pretty good job, however how about some more intermediate routes and I really do not understand why you pretty much abandon the running game which has been your bread and butter to this point in the season. Fieger throws a nice ball for a frosh and Slusher is a pretty good receiver, but the pass coverage was pretty much non-existent.

Perhaps Highlands getting their butts handed to them will wake some kids up and help them undertand that they need to step up their performance level or it is time for someone else to step in and take their place.

"Beechwood's Super Bowl" ... for real?

"Highlands defense in one word is "awful"" hmmm ... geesh ... being the super bowl and all .. you think it would be a little better.

"Beechwood would not be as good as they are without Stringer and this game would be much closer without him playing for the Beechies"

Well ... I guess that is as close to a compliment as you are willing to give ... to the TEAM .. but .. that is okay. We understand.

It was not any mystery to anyone in NKY that Beechwood has a good team this season (well ... I guess you are the exception).

Your "super bowl" comment is a joke.

You played one of the two other teams (besides Highlands) in NKY who experience the thrill of being everyone else's super bowl .. and this is what you come up with?

Kudo's to both teams and programs.

Also ... kudo's to the Highland's fans who are handling this with class.

Anyone can win all the time .. and have "class".

Reactions are more telling after a loss ... and most of you are coming through with flying colors.

But heck ... I haven't had a good laugh since about 5:30 pm ... so this was timely!

Glad I couldn't make it to the game..I knew this was going to be an eye opener for the Baby Birds. This Beechwood class is extremely talented in football and baseball..I hope the Birds get their act together sooner than later.

I'm sure JOAT was basically making a comparison that Beechwood was obviously playing with more desire than the Birds. Just because he stated the game would be closer without the dominant Stringer shouldn't be taken as disrespect toward the rest of the team. Don't get so defensive, his criticism was primarily focused on the Birds. Also, if you think freshman games are remembered by the majority of Highlands players and fans you are mistaken. It was a great win for the Tigers and I'm glad they have a nice group. Highlands players will hopefully work hard and improve. The ultimate goal is developing for the next few years.

Loses are often good medicine. It was nice to see Bradford on the offensive line (TE) at the end of the game. Having him only play D is a luxury the birds may not be able to afford. Beechwood players seemed to have no trouble going both ways all night long.

Tonight's game is over. The trick is using it as a learning tool to make the team better.

Daugherty and Kreeger should be playing defense..

Defensive? Nah ... not this time.

What I take issue with would be this: you seem to have a good outlook on this game. You (and others) seemed to have a good grasp on how the freshman team would perform. Not to mention ... you were also educated on the opponent. You also speak about how this could be a great learning experience for your team.

From my point of view ... you addressed good points and bad points in a manner that did not throw backhanded compliments at the other team. You know .. that is pretty cool.

However ... I have a hard time rectifying the difference between JAOT's thoughts ... and your thoughts on what JAOT's actually meant.

If that is frustration from JOAT ... no big deal.

At the end of the day ... Beechwood is used to being the "super bowl" ... just like the Birds.

At the end of the day ... Beechwood had a very balanced attack while playing solid defense.

With that said ... two good teams played each other ... one of the teams had more success than the other. Right/wrong/indifferent ... Beechwood many have been the reason why some things did not work for the Birds.

That's pretty much where I see it. Nothing less ... nothing more.
