Is this a new sanction/bylaw? I know NKY teams have played Ohio teams in this event in the past.

 

Yes. If it's a regular season game and not for a third party profit then special permission may be granted.

I'm guessing this was tough to post because you're a CovCath grad. But, I thought it was about as spot on and succinct as any post in the thread in regards to the Crosstown.

 

Other than the "Beat Highlands" mantra, I do not think there is anything but respect from most Cov. Cath. fans to the Bluebirds. I feel the same way about Holmes in basketball.

 

Whatever Dale is doing seems to be working pretty darn well. If he thinks the Crosstown Showdown does not fit their needs then so be it.

 

I went to the Cov. Cath. Crosstown game at Dixie last year. The place was packed. Atmosphere was great. I give the event :thumb: :thumb:. It was fun. Dale apparantly feels the path to another championship does not lead through the Showdown. It is hard to argue the results.

 

That said, Highlands is clearly ducking Simon Kenton.

Does anybody know where the extra proceeds from the "Skyline Chili" events are supposed to go, and where they are actually going? I have no interest in whether HHS participates or not, but, reading this thread makes me concerned over the legitimacy of this event. $12 may not be much in some places, but in Independence it sure is. Especially if I'm bringing the kids!

Tom is your typical radio guy: overweight, out of shape, and nasty looking. However, he was talented on the radio. He was paired with Richard Skinner and they were called the Two Angry Guys. They had a pretty good gig going on, Skinner was more of the facts guy and Gamble was the blow hard but Gamble was good at his trade. However, like typical shock jocks, Gamble burned a lot of bridges and and frankly spewed out a lot of inaccurate crap that was designed to get ratings and nothing more. In short, Gamble never let the facts stand in the way of a good story.

 

I will need some help here but I think Gamble married into money, he went on to do the promotions, and he worked at a hard rock station as a morning DJ for sometime and then left. I don't know if him leaving was his decision or the radio stations decision.

 

I think Gamble is smart doing what he is doing with the Showdown but I think most of the schools are stupid for giving up home games and allowing Gamble promotions to charge double for admission so they can take the profits.

Didn't the NCAA say promotions like this could not be played on college campuses. Two similar sounding events were shutdown or moved at Rupp Arena last winter during basketball season. I may be way off base here and this event may not be anything like those, but I was wondering how this event managed to get the ok from the NCAA with it being run by a third party?

I don't know how one would define an outsider promoter but I sure think Gamble qualifies as one.

Can't be true on the NCAA thing. You have the Roy kid bowl Friday at EKU, I believe theres an event this year at Campbellsville. All of them are outside promoted events. Also too, doesn't OHSAA use Nippert as a playoff site?

Last year during basketball season an all day event at Rupp Arena was scheduled to be played with teams from all over the state scheduled to play. About 3-4 weeks before the games were to be played the NCAA ruled that the games couldn't be played at Rupp Arena because a college team plays there and it would present an unfair recruiting advantage. They also said only KHSAA sanctioned events were allowed to play on college campuses or in their respective arenas. Is the Crosstown thing sanctioned by OHSAA or whatever they use up there?

Hmmm! Interesting comments. I think CF might have opened a can of worms for himself errrrrrrr Mr Gamble. Wonder if anyone can find out the true facts.

Anyone remember when they had the LaRoasa games at Riverfront? They brought in some very good teams. I remember watching Chicago Mt. Carmel run the option and it was quite the spectacle. I know Massilon played and their fans brought it.

 

I still remember Gamble and Skinny along with Don Weber on the Press Box. I had fun with that show.
