Would anyone care to research what Tommy did in High School and what Instrument he played in the band. Because it's true!!! A relation of mine went to Colerain high school with the "Loud Mouth" as he referred to, and has told me on numerous occasions what a tool bag he was then as well as now. This should explain pretty much whatever you need to know about the 1 angry shrimp.:lol: But then again, he is in Radio!!!!

 

In all honesty what does this have to do with the issue at hand?

 

Now not that anybody cares what my opinion is on this but I really see no advantage to playing in this event.........IF it was a one day event with lets say 6 Cincinnati schools playing 6 out of state schools at PBS now that would be a really nice event. As it stands I see no reason why anyone would play in this. Without having seen the contracts, etc why would anyone give up a home game for this event?

 

I am not familiar with all the Highlands animosity towards Mr. Gamble but that aside there is no reason to play in this.

There are tons of benefits.

 

Mainly, you get to put the kids in a playoff like atmosphere in week 1 to see how they stack up against a big-time opponent on a big time stage. It would be a real good possibility that if Highlands were involved, they may even get a shot at getting their program on National television and ESPN has selected the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown as part of their Opening Weekend High School Football kickoff series for the past two years and again this year.

 

The kids would get to dress, prepare and play at Nippert Stadium on the campus of the University of Cincinnati against a regional named power NOT from KY. Also, they would get a good-sized gate, I believe, and it would be worth their while to try it once.

If Taft can get on National TV, then Highlands can. I know that Taft had 2 highly rated recruits and they were playing the best DT in the country...but that was a miserable game to watch.

Tom is your typical radio guy: overweight, out of shape, and nasty looking. However, he was talented on the radio. He was paired with Richard Skinner and they were called the Two Angry Guys. They had a pretty good gig going on, Skinner was more of the facts guy and Gamble was the blow hard but Gamble was good at his trade. However, like typical shock jocks, Gamble burned a lot of bridges and and frankly spewed out a lot of inaccurate crap that was designed to get ratings and nothing more. In short, Gamble never let the facts stand in the way of a good story.

 

I will need some help here but I think Gamble married into money, he went on to do the promotions, and he worked at a hard rock station as a morning DJ for sometime and then left. I don't know if him leaving was his decision or the radio stations decision.

 

I think Gamble is smart doing what he is doing with the Showdown but I think most of the schools are stupid for giving up home games and allowing Gamble promotions to charge double for admission so they can take the profits.

 

I don't know if he is a full-fledged Professor, but I believe that he is/was a teacher at NKU.

I loved the show. I like Skinny and I think that Gamble was good on radio, w/ the exception that he was NEVER wrong. That got grating.

Your post caused me to think this. In addition to the other reasons mentioned by the Highland faithful above, as long as Highlands has Trinity on their pre-season lineup, I don't think they will have any interest in the Skyline program. Trinity is a great game for Highlands. You get to test yourself against the best with nothing to lose. Why would you then go the next week and play another national type power?

He was and he was the head of their Sports Marketing program. He was the worst professor I had at NKU. We paid $60 for a book we never opened or used. The entire class was based on his experiences and his opinion. I remember our final was to create an event with full sponsorship, and we were told we had no limitations, as he put it "let your imagination run wild." Low and behold, he took away a full letter grade if he thought your sponsor didn't fit the event.

Highlands is only following rules set by KHSAA Sanctions and Bylaws. A member of KHSAA public school system cannot compete against another non-member of the KHSAA for any profit maintained by a 3rd party organization.

 

They are following rules, people need to get off their backs. I'm sure they would play anyone anytime. To be the best you have to play the best.

There are quite a few NKY teams playing. I understand not wanting to be a part of it. What's the point? It's good for schools that don't get as much pub, or deep into the postseason, but does nothing to benefit Highlands. To say that they are not playing b/c they are following the rules? I don't get that argument. And Highlands will not play anyone at any time. They schedule w/ the talent that they have. It is very smart on their end. They scrimmage Trinity, and do not play them in the regular season. They schedule a marquee game when they have marquee talent. Mueller seems to have his finger on the pulse of his talent two years in advance. He doesn't schedule cupcakes, but he doesn't overschedule either. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. In the end, it's not about making the pundits happy. It's about state championships. Highlands does that better than anyone else not named Trinity.
