Highlands is an overachieving program. To be able to compete against GCL schools is a feat in itself. Furthermore, it does not make sense to play larger, deeper schools in the summer heat. Highlands would prefer to play deeper schools in cooler weather a little later in the season. Also, the crosstown showdown does not matter, it is just another game in reality. If you really think about it... the way Highlands has been scheduling has been working. Look at the number of times they have been nationally ranked and look how many state championships have been racked up.

Not so sure why you're so worried about HHS's reputation? There are just as many (or more) that don't play in it every year. It's really up to them whether to play and it's not anyone else's business. I have never heard one of their players say "man, my high school career sucked because we didn't play in the showdown". They just don't care about it as much as you obviously do. And I don't think HHS ducks anyone. I actually think they seek out competition. They still play several of those teams over time. Just because they don't play in a showcase that some cardinal fan thinks is an elite event, doesn't mean they are ducking anyone. If the coaching staff and players at HHS are fine with it, why does it ruffle your feathers so much?

I am not worried about their reputation at all. My motives are purely selfish. Highlands is a premier program in this region and the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown is THE premier high school football festival event in the country. I want to see the premier teams in this event.

 

If the fanbase and kids in the program don't mind not playing in it, than it's no skin off my back. I'm just surprised that more fans and players don't want to be part and see their Bluebirds match up against some more regional powers.

None for the schools that have to lose a home game to play at another high school field. And to play another NKY team. Makes no sense!

When in the name of CAKETOWN did money become an issue for Highlands?! That is priceless, absolutely priceless.

 

Money should be the last thing on the minds of the coaching staff. How about the experience for the kids? Hope about the experience for the fans?

Again, Highlands will share with Tom Gamble when they want to share with Tom Gamble. They will say when they want to play and when they do Tom Gamble will more then likely bow to them because he knows of the storied History, he knows they would be the top draw, he knows that a Highlands vs Moeller or other GCL team is a sellout.

It drives him nuts that he cant have what he wants and that is what makes him want them more.

Exactly, you have to more often than not, sacrifice a home game. That's a lot of gate money for athletics, split the pot for the band, booster money from clothing/paraphernalia sales, Lions Club money for concessions, ability for some elderly fans and grandparents that otherwise would not make the trip, local business revenue (915 pub, Mios, etc.) it's a lot more than you realize that your giving up. You admit CF that you're selfish, well Dale is not. He has unselfishly won ten state titles which I believe is tied for most by one coach. I would say he has the best intentions. In Dale we trust!!!

Very transparent. I hope I never see Gamble at a Birdsgame!!!

So that's an opinion of someone that works for Gamble. They don't duck anyone and I'm sure there is a reason. And quite frankly, even if he doesn't want to play a GCL school that early, that's their choice. Maybe it's risk of injuries that early in the season, who knows. But he seems to know what he's doing and he does schedule GCL schools in his regular season, so I'm not sure what your point it. I will take his judgement over yours. SK is a much bigger school than HHS, are you scheduling GCL HS

 

Im not knocking HHS in anyway. If HHS is happy being a power in NKY and most years a state power then thats fine with me. HHS has the chance to become nationally known if they would play better teams. It is a fact they did duck playing a better team last year, not being mean just a fact. HHS fans will trash talk NKY teams that dont want to play them but they wont step up and play many schools that might be bigger and better than the Birds. I would love to see HHS play powerhouse teams cause they are the only school in NKY that has a chance to. No matter what happens in those games 90 times out of 100 they will still walk all over their district. Games and role to state. Why not try to compete with better schools?

Not sure but most high school stadiums in NKY only hold a few thousand fans so not much money there to split. Not worth it IMO. To satisfy one person anyway.
