Besides, you can't sell more tickets for a theater than there are seats. At least most big name theaters wouldn't.

Indeed, one thing these poor people definitely did have going against them was their atmosphere was loud and explosive so it probably took people a few moments to realize what was going on. Reports were that people in the adjacent auditorium were also hit with gun fire as well.

If any of you have your CC permit, I urge you to utilize it. If you don't have a CC, and you are legally eligible, get one. You never know when a "copy cat" will strike.

You're right. Beverly (specifically, the Cabaret Room) was seated at something near double occupancy.

Depends on when school let out, they could have been away from the apt for 2 months, if they haven't been back.

All kinds of things bother me about this...first of all, God bless those families who lost loved ones and those who are still fighting for their lives.

 

Secondly, how in the world did this guy manage to get off enough shots to hit 70+ people. Why were there toddlers and young kids at an after-midnight movie? How/why did he stop shooting? Just a crazy, crazy ordeal.

The only reason I'm glad this lunatic didn't get shot is so maybe he explains what he was trying to accomplish. Maybe it won't matter, maybe it will.

There are plenty of college-level architecture and construction classes about building code and fire code. The classes (nationally, not just locally) virtually revolve around the Beverly Hills fire. It was the 7th deadliest single building fire in US history, but more significantly, it was the only building in the top 10 deadliest US building fires to have been constructed following the creation of the Uniform Building Code in 1927, and only one of two buildings constructed after the creation of the NFPA Life Safety Code (commonly just called "fire code") in 1913. The thing was, at the point of the building's design and construction, these codes were not very widely required at all, and even where they were, design enforcement very rarely occurred. Long story short, it was the Beverly Hills fire in 1977 that finally set fire and building code in stone, so to speak.

 

As the guy who oversaw the construction of the Cinema de Lux theater in Florence (now renamed the Rave Florence 14 theater), I can tell you that there isn't anything more modern out there as far as safety design and construction than that theater. There's no designing for mass hysteria.
