Bruce wasn't 4 for 4 today and it looks like after todays game, he should attend "base running 101".

These are pros and base running is taught in grade school , and so is bunting.(Stubbs)

Are you glad I'm back, well, I'm here.

In the 18 years since the NL has gone to 3 Divisions, the team that has led the NL Central on July 1st has gone on to win the division 14 times.

So your telling us we have a chance?

Game thoughts:

1. Awesome pitching by Latos today, 2 in a row for him. That's promising.

2. Small issue or not any injury to Votto worries me. Obviously the Reds can't afford to lose him. (I Keep wanting to say "we" in these threads, will I get killed for that? Saying the Reds instead of "we" kills "me.")

3. What was Stubbs doing when that soft liner was hit and he got doubled up. Did he misread it that bad?

Go with whatever feels natural. I'm of the opinion that if the majority of sports fans didn't say we when talking about their team then the teams probably wouldn't survive. Without fan's that care they don't have jobs so if you feel like saying we then I just think it means you're passionate about your team and want the best for them. Some will disagree but hey we're all entitled to our own opinions. even if mines the only one that really matters

This was from Fay's Blog...I love the Comments section  and I must say I couldn't have said much of it any better myself...

*Looking at the "big picture" with Rolen is idiotic -- plain and simple. He's an oft-injured 37 year old. His career numbers aren't very helpful anymore. He's not the player he once was. He's barely half the player he once was. His BABIP is low, which does suggest *some* bad luck. But his BB% is down and his K% is up. Also, I'm no scout, but he doesn't seem to be hitting balls as hard as used to, which would lead to a low BABIP. It's probably not bad luck; it's diminished skill level. His slash line since the 2010 All-Star break is more indicative of where he's at than his career numbers. It's that simple. He's not going to be a productive "regular" ever again.

*If anybody was noticing - when ROLEN was out, Frazier was getting into a pretty solid groove - his defense was improving, his hitting was not great but still better than ROLENs production. Yes the team could do better but wheres Jockety ???? As soon as Rolen came off DL and started - he's lost some ground and been inconsistant. It's time to put him out there and let him play for 45 days. sub in Rolen in late inning games with a lead. give a rest by letting ROLEN start every 7-10 days. If he doesn't work out - trade or acquire a third baseman. Its been way to many years now that the 'holes' in this lineup were supposed to be addressed but turn out to be 'we'll address it next year' l

*Maybe you ought to go see him in action - he doesn't have the jump or the quickness in range to get balls anymore. He's useful as a backup - nothing else. If management doesn't wake up soon - the REDS will be trying to chase first place. On another note - REDS would be better off putting the 'good' hitting pitchers in the 2 hole and let the other regular players start thinking about their future as a RED MLB player.

*Scott Rolen hasn't hit since June of 2010. That isn't bad luck. That is old age and a bum shoulder catching up to him.

A lot of people on here give Fay a lot of cred. Maybe now they'll start to see what others on here have said all along about Rolen and Frazier. Rolen is done and Frazier needs reps if he is going to play 3rd until they find a better answer.

Costanzo sucks...

Let's all hope that experiment is long over.

Great job by Latos, 2 hit complete game!

Hopefully this 2 game stretch carries on through the rest of the season .

Okay I am very happy about winning the last 2 from Frisco but I am still very concerned with the lack of offensive production from this team. Here are the numbers for the last 10 in which the team has gone 5-5. Offensively Bruce is leading the way in the last 10 games but that is with a 4 for 4 game the other night.

Votto 7 for 33 1 HR 2 RBIs .212

Phillips 9 for 36 1 HR 4 RBIs .250

Bruce 10 for 36 1 HR 8 RBIs .278

Cozart 8 for 43 1 HR 1 RBI .186

Hanigan 7 for 26 0 HR 2 RBIs .269

Ludwick 9 for 33 2 HR 4 RBIs .273

Stubbs 7 for 32 2 HR 5 RBIs .219

Rolen 5 for 29 1 HR 3 RBIs .172

Frazier 6 for 31 0 HR 0 RBI .194

Heisey 8 for 36 1 HR 3 RBIs .222

Mesoraco 7 for 33 1 HR 1 RBI .212

Leake 8.0 inn 5 hits 2 er

Leake 9.0 inn 9 hits 1 er

Cueto 7.0 inn 3 hits 0 er

Cueto 6.0 inn 6 hits 2 er

Arroyo 4.0 inn 8 hits 5 er

Arroyo 7.2 inn 3 hits 3 er

Latos 9.0 inn 4 hits 1 er

Latos 9.0 inn 2 hits 1 er

Bailey 5.1 inn 8 hits 4 er

Bailey 4.0 7 hits 4 er

The oft maligned Latos is now 7-2, 4.42 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 90 K's and 2 CG in 97 IP.

He will be even better in the second half of the year.

I hope you are right because this team needs a solid #2 behind Cueto. Note though that the 4.42 era is after 18 innings of 1 run ball over his last 2 starts. It was 5.20 prior to the 2 game stretch. Let's hope that this trend continues.

18 innings, and 2 runs.

Latos ERA is June is right around 3.1 if you take out his start against Cleveland where the signs were stolen/tipping pitches.

Obviously those starts happen, but he's been solid other than that for about a month. Hopefully he doesn't blow up like that game 2 in the playoffs...
