April 2, 201214 yr Do you mean for Davis or in general? Kevin Durant, Evan Turner and many others won awards without winning the title. No, I'm simply stating with the tradition of UK, it would only solidify him if he led the team to another title. Durant and Turner both are from lesser establishments basketball-wise. April 2, 201214 yr Even if he accomplishes as much in one year as other greats have in their entire career? No other UK player has ever been the National POY. Davis swept all of the awards. He's on his way to a championship (hopefully). He is probably the greatest shot blocker in UK history. Those are accolades worthy of having a jersey retired, whether they be accomplished in one year or over four years. One year by itself isn't enough to retire a jersey no matter how great a season. I am glad to see the guidelines UK has in place.
April 2, 201214 yr No, I'm simply stating with the tradition of UK, it would only solidify him if he led the team to another title. Durant and Turner both are from lesser establishments basketball-wise. Gotcha. So if UK loses tonight his awards will mean nothing to you?
April 2, 201214 yr Just found this from the UK Athletics Department: Kentucky Wildcats Official Athletic Site - Traditions There is a five-year waiting period - after leaving UK - to be eligible for inclusion into the Hall of Fame, and a 10-year waiting period to have a jersey retired. An individual must be a member of the Hall of Fame to be eligible for jersey retirement. There's been exceptions haven't there? The Unforgettables jerseys were hung in the rafters in 1992. Were their jerseys not retired?
April 2, 201214 yr His accomplishments and accolades make this a no-brainer. At the same time, I have a hard time retiring a jersey of a player who only played one year... Edited April 3, 201214 yr by TheDeuce
April 2, 201214 yr I personally wouldn't do it. Carolina makes the decision easy...if you're 1st team AA you get your number hung....maybe UK should do that.

April 3, 201214 yr I like Carolina hanging the Jerseys of all 1st team AAs. Hanging jerseys versus retired jersey or number are different imo. Hang his jersey and all of the 1st team AA in UK history but don't retire thier number. Some schools in the past used to refuse to hang jerseys or championship banners until players completed degrees, but that is now an antiquated idea. As far as Millers jersey, I love Miller. He is a beloved player at UK, but so were many others. Don't make it a participation award just for staying 4 years and playing on a championship team. If so Cameron Mills, Padgett, Sheppard, Truman Claytor, Mark Pope, Wayne Turner and many others would deserve to be up there also. I do think that Miller def deserves the Reggie Hanson Sacrifice Award if it is still given out for what he has done.
April 3, 201214 yr Retire it. They should consider Darius as well. He played in the most games at UK ever, if I'm not mistaken.
April 4, 201214 yr At worst Davis is in the conversation for best player to ever put on the UK jersey. At best he is at the top of the list. If that doesn't get you a spot in the rafters, what does???
