Do you retire Anthony Davis jersey?

Featured Replies

Along with Davis I think it's time to retire the jersey's of: Delk, Prince, and Bogans.

Nope. I can't retire the jersey of any player that only plays one year. Can any player get into the baseball Hall of Fame with a 5 year career?

Don't have any idea about the baseball Hall of Fame.

Even if he accomplishes as much in one year as other greats have in their entire career? No other UK player has ever been the National POY. Davis swept all of the awards. He's on his way to a championship (hopefully). He is probably the greatest shot blocker in UK history. Those are accolades worthy of having a jersey retired, whether they be accomplished in one year or over four years.

Completely agree. There are others that were there for the long haul who haven't had their jerseys retired. Having one good year and leaving and then having your jersey retired waters down the whole concept. Doing that for anyone who plays for only one year is a joke. I say we retire Miller's jersey. He stayed for the long haul, has had a consistent career and has provided leadership for all the "one and doner's".

I don't get how making an exception for one of the top 3 players to ever don the Blue and White waters down the process.

Completely agree.

And as much as I love Miller, if they don't have Delk or Prince...Miller isn't getting up there, even with a title.

If they win tonight, yes. It really comes down to that. All the accolades mean less if you're the runners up. Just sayin'.

Agree with this......

Do you mean for Davis or in general? Kevin Durant, Evan Turner and many others won awards without winning the title.

This ain't baseball. And if Pete Rose isn't in the Hall of Fame then that further sullies the reputation of the Hall of Fame. Davis' accomplishments shouldn't be any less revered than someone who wasn't good enough to go pro after one season like he is. Especially if they win tonight. Davis? Absolutely. Wall? No.

So by your standards every four year player should have their jersey retired? Miller is not deserving just because he is loved.

Nope, not every four year player, just the one and done's.

My boss just told me UK has rules before a player's jersey is retired. He said they have to have their degree, be elected to the UK Hall of Fame, and be 5 years removed from the college. That was just off the top of his head, so I have no idea if it's true or if it's written somewhere.

Just found this from the UK Athletics Department: Kentucky Wildcats Official Athletic Site - Traditions

There is a five-year waiting period - after leaving UK - to be eligible for inclusion into the Hall of Fame, and a 10-year waiting period to have a jersey retired. An individual must be a member of the Hall of Fame to be eligible for jersey retirement.
