Week 3 is history. Not too much change in the rankings, as the top teams performed about as expected. School is out (in lots of places, anyway), and we're in for a couple of weeks of holiday tournaments. My avatar got married yesterday. Just another week at the office. Here's last week's recap:

1. Campbell County (7-1, 3-0 region). The Camels were victorious in all three of their games last wee, running their winning streak to 7. The season-opening loss to Cooper is a fading memory. First was an 86-59 manhandling of previously unbeaten Paris that saw 4 Camels hit double figures, led by Joel Day with 20 and Tanner Clos with 16. Coach Russell's squad ventured to the ninth region later in the week, edging Newport by 6 and Dixie Heights by 3 on the road. In fact, Campbell County hasn't played a home game yet, and this week's games against Holmes and Beechwood are their only home games until the calendar rolls over to 2018. Reid Jolly poured in 30 in the Newport game, and Jolly and Day were the leading point-scorers with 25 and 23 against Dixie. Jolly is averaging a double-double with 19/11. The Camels host Holmes and Beechwood and travel to Calvary Christian for a district tilt this week.

2. Clark County (5-2, 4-1 region). GRC bounced back nicely from the loss to #1 Campbell County with a pair of impressive wins last week. First was a 61-62 win over previously undefeated Woodford County much-anticipated matchup with 40th-district fo Paris that saw the Cards prevail by 9 and had 9 players hit the scoring column, with Ryan Cooper, Brennan Canada and Jordan Graham reaching double figures. Next was a much-anticipated matchup with district rival Paris, and again the Cards took the win, this time by a score of 71-64. GRC came back from down 3 at the end of 3, but Clark put the team on his back down the stretch, scoring 9 straight at one point. Clark goes on the road this week to play Ashland, then Waggener and Perry Central in Rowan County's holiday tourney.

3. Pendleton County (7-1, 6-1 region). Coach Belcher's Wildcats continued to impress last week, winning four times in six days. The only blemish on their record is a 4-point loss to Clark County. The Cats beat Augusta, St. Patrick, Harrison County and Bourbon County by an average of 30 points per contest. They had to come back against a scrappy Panthers squad but won going away behind Dontaie Allen's 29. Allen isn't alone, as Grant Walsh and Adam Antrobus are averaging 13 and 11; and Allen and Antrobus are hitting an astonishing 2 out of every 3 field goals on the season. Antrobus joined Allen with double-doubles in a 91-59 rout of Bourbon County on Saturday. Pendleton visits The Fieldhouse on Friday, then matches up against Belfry at Rowan County a day later.

4. Paris (4-3, 2-2 region). The Hounds drop a spot after a week that saw them lose all three of their games - the aforementioned contests with Campbell County and Clark County, then a close one at home to Henry Clay. The trio of Taleigh Adams, Eric Johnson and Jamaun Clark paced the Greyhounds with 16. 15 and 12; and Travis Strings pumped in a game-high 27 against Clark County. Strings has been a pleasant surprise for Coach Brooks, averaging nearly 13 per game as the Hounds' second-leading scorer on the young season. Bracken County and Nicholas County are on the schedule this week.

5. Scott (4-2, 2-2 region). The Eagles came back from the buzzer-beating loss to Mason County with a pair of wins last week, defeating Harrison County and Cincinnati Aiken by double-digits. Trey Meister had a career night in the Aiken game, scoring 28 points and pushing his season average to 16 ppg. The Harrison County game was a bit of a struggle, seeing a 19-point lead drop to as few as 8 in the final stanza before finally putting it away. Scott is schedule to play just a single game between now and the new year, playing (Covington) Holy Cross on Thursday at Simon Kenton.

6. Mason County (5-2, 3-1 region). The Royals won all three of their contests last week. They broke open a close game by outscoring Bracken County 22-9 in the third quarter and prevailing 69-45 behind Jaylen Lofton's 20. Next was an 80-72 overtime thriller at East Carter behind senior guard Leevi Dunaway's career-high 49 points. Finally, Dunaway had 25 and Caleb Boyd had his career scoring night with 18 in a 75-64 win over Male. Lofton leads the team in rebounding at 8.4 per game. Coach Biggs' squad hosts Highlands and Pendleton County this week in the annual Mike Murphy Classic.

7. Montgomery County (2-4, 2-3 region). Somebody mentioned last week that the Indians' record coming into the week was deceiving, and they did not disappoint. First was a convincing district win over Bourbon County, 73-59. Four Indians reached double figures in this one, led by Pharoah Davis with 21 and Hayden Chism with 18. Following that one up was a 22-point drubbing of Augusta. Three games (only the first team scheduled - Southwestern) in Raceland's tournament this week.

8. Bourbon County (2-3, 1-3 region). The week was not kind to Coach Campbell's Colonels, as they fell to Montgomery County by 14 and got routed by Pendleton County, 91-59 and are currently on the wrong end of a 3-game streak. Double-double machine Titus Ransom was the game's leading scorer in the Pendleton County contest with 29, and averages 22/9 on the season. Madison Southern, then a pair of games in the owan County tourney are up this week.

9. Bishop Brossart (3-4, 2-0 region). The Mustangs started the week with a convincing 58-32 rout of Bracken County and had 11 players get in the book; led by Zach Hamberg's 17 that included five triples. The next day was not as kind as the 'stangs dropped a nailbiter to Highlands, 50-48. A critical 5-minute scoring drought in the final period was the difference. The Mustangs face Ryle at Bellevue in their only action this week.

10. Harrison County (1-6, 1-2 region). The Thoroughbreds dropped all four games last week to Scott, Grant, Pendleton and Woodford. They cling to the 10th spot by virtue of a squeaker over Nicholas County the week before on the road. Bourbon County and Western Hills are on tap this week, then an empty schedule until 2018.

11. Nicholas County (2-3, 1-3 region). The Jackets won their only contest of the week over 16th-region foe Fleming County, 70-59. Spencer Morris is the team's leading scorer and rebounder at 17/6. This week's only scheduled game is a tough one at Paris.

12. Robertson County (3-2, 2-0 region). The Devils didn't play this week but travel to Calvary Christian on Tuesday in what should be a good one; then off to the Rowan County tournament for a pair of games. The Devils currently are spreading the wealth with 4 players in double figures.

13. Augusta (4-4, 2-4 region). The Panthers went 1-2 last week, a pair of losses to Montgomery and Pendleton bookending a big win over Heritage Academy. St. Patrick tonight (ol' pap will probably be in attendance) and Rockcastle County this week.

14. Bracken County (1-6, 0-4 region). Coach Hinson's Polar Bears have lost four straight, falling to Mason County and Brossart last week. Lewis County, Paris and Ripley (OH) fill out this week's slate of games.

15. Calvary Christian (5-1, 0-1 region). Don't look now, but the Cougars are threatening to make a move up the rankings. They've won four straight, winning all three of last week's contests. Dayton, Robertson and Campbell (!!) this week.

16. St. Patrick (1-6, 0-3 region). The Saints lost to Pendleton County and Trimble County last week, but the latest buzz has former Mason County standout Isaiah Garrison (possibly) suiting up for St. Pat in calendar 2008. Combine this with the (possible) early return of Big Ben Swolsky and Coach Rigdon's squad could be a tough out.

17. Silver Grove (0-6, 0-1 region). The Big Trains look for their first win tomorrow against Heritage Academy.

Player of the Week: The nod goes to Leevi Dunaway with the 49-point eruption at West Carter and leading the Royals to three victories. Joel Day a strong runner-up.

You can't lose to a bad Bourbon County team on your home court and expect to be ranked #2. They are ranked right where they should be at this point.

Ah yes - the time-tested All In KOD.

Y’all are forgetting the fact that Paris lost 7 people from last year. They did look very promising the first 4 games but teams found a way to take Johnson out of the equation. The only team that easily beat Paris was Campbell County. Henry Clay and GRC had they’re hands full against an incomplete greyhound team. I don’t think grc will get a win when they travel to Paris in 2 weeks. Paris has a few kinks to work out but they will be very lethal by the end of the year. Also they’re 3 losses came against 6A schools and they’re only 1A.

Paris will face Bracken County tonight and Nicholas County on Thursday. It will be their first test of the year against Class A schools ... before tonight, they've played 2-4A schools, 2-5A schools and 3-6A schools. Not bad for a Class A team that lost seven of their top 9 players from a year ago. And besides, their only blowout came against top ranked Campbell County, which is no surprise, because the Camels beat Paris by that same margin a year ago. Just don't sleep on this team!
