Jumper_Dad
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/24/nyregion/bloomberg-sensing-an-opening-revisits-a-potential-white-house-run.html?_r=0 Michael R. Bloomberg has instructed advisers to draw up plans for a potential independent campaign in this year’s presidential race. His advisers and associates said he was galled by Donald J. Trump’s dominance of the Republican field, and troubled by Hillary Clinton’s stumbles and the rise of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont on the Democratic side. Mr. Bloomberg, the billionaire former mayor of New York City, has in the past contemplated running for the White House on a third-party ticket, but always concluded he could not win. A confluence of unlikely events in the 2016 election, however, has given new impetus to his presidential aspirations. Mr. Bloomberg, 73, has already taken concrete steps toward a possible campaign, and has indicated to friends and allies that he would be willing to spend at least $1 billion of his fortune on it, according to people briefed on his deliberations who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss his plans. He has set a deadline for making a final decision in early March, the latest point at which advisers believe Mr. Bloomberg could enter the race and still qualify to appear as an independent candidate on the ballot in all 50 states. He has retained a consultant to help him explore getting his name on those ballots, and his aides have done a detailed study of past third-party bids. Mr. Bloomberg commissioned a poll in December to see how he might fare against Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton, and he intends to conduct another round of polling after the New Hampshire primary on Feb. 9 to gauge whether there is indeed an opening for him, according to two people familiar with his intentions. Jumper_Dad
Who does he take voters from...Dems or GOP? This has to be horrible news for Clinton, I think the vast majority of his support will come from the middle left.
Jesse James
Clinton unless she can really turn somethings around is in some serious trouble in this race.

The answer is zero.

Are you sure Hillary is going to be the nominee? If she gets beat by a socialist you will be embarrassed.
Jumper_Dad
How many states will Hillary lose if Bloomberg gets on the ballot? The answer is zero. You don't think he'll take votes from her? President Obama won 7 states with 52% or less of the vote...any of those states would sway to the GOP if Bloomberg was in those elections pulling Indy and Left votes...which would have cost a much more popular that Hillary, President Obama the election. Remember Perot pulled 18% of the vote in 92, and while he didn't win a single state he eroded the vote for President GHW Bush, handing the Election to Clinton with only 43% of the vote. If Bloomberg is in the election this November it will be bad news for which ever candidate wins the Democratic Nomination. The best hope for the Dems is that he just rattles their cage a bit so he can get his ideas in the DNC Platform and he steps away.
Jumper_Dad
Or Trumpster's billions. Bloomberg is listed as having a Net Worth 10 times higher than Trumps at around $37-40 Billion...I bet he doesn't worry about Trumpster's billions. 75center
I saw some headline about a big name getting into the race and I thought for sure it was Joe. Or Al. Or Mitt. How much fun would it be if all 3 jumped in?

Twotoplace
I know this comes as disappointing news to the Ft. Thomas Pachyderm Club, but according to Ed Rendell, former governor of Pennsylvania, the scenario for a Bloomberg run would be Trump/Cruz vs. Sanders. If Hillary wins the nomination, then Bloomberg is not likely to mount a third-party candidacy. According to NY Times: “Mike Bloomberg for president rests on the not-impossible but somewhat unlikely circumstance of either Donald Trump or Ted Cruz versus Bernie Sanders,” said Rendell, a close ally of Mrs. Clinton’s who is also a friend of Mr. Bloomberg’s. “If Hillary wins the nomination, Hillary is mainstream enough that Mike would have no chance, and Mike’s not going to go on a suicide mission.” http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/24/nyregion/bloomberg-sensing-an-opening-revisits-a-potential-white-house-run.html?_r=

I don't sense that Bloomberg has much appeal beyond New York City. What he's doing is positioning himself as the middle-of-the-road candidate should both the R's and D's vote in candidates at the far end of the spectrum. What he also might be trying to do is serve notice to the establishment Repubs that if the ticket is Trump/Cruz vs. Sanders, then he and his billions would jump in to occupy the middle ground.
