14th Region Rankings Week 3

1.Perry County Central (4-1):

The Commodores continued to show that they are the team to beat in the 14th region this season as they picked up wins over 15th region powerhouse, Johnson Central 68-53, Logan WV 55-54 and district foe, Buckhorn 67-60. Perry Central will face Jackson City on Wednesday before heading to Bowling Green to participate in the Warren East Holiday Classic. They will face Monroe County (Dec. 21) and Caverna (Dec. 22) and a TBD opponent on Dec. 23.

 

2.Cordia (1-2):

The Lions have had a tough week with back to back losses to Fern Creek 83-78 and Bullitt East 65-54. This week won’t be any easier as they face Southwestern on Wednesday and South Laurel and Madison Southern this weekend at Rowan County.

 

3.Hazard (3-1):

After suffering a heartbreaking loss to district foe and arch rival, Perry Central, the Bulldogs bounced back with two big wins over Lee county and Leslie County both wins were by 25+.

 

4.Buckhorn (2-2):

The Horn have played just 4 games so far this season and have split those 4 games, however, one of their wins was by double digits against Leslie County, who had defeated defending 14th region champ, Knott County Central. Buckhorn went toe-to-toe with #1 Perry Central, losing 67-60. Lee County and Hazard await the Wildcats this week.

 

5.Knott County Central (4-1):

After tasting their first region defeat in awhile, the Patriots came back with 3 straight wins, defeating June Buchanan, Sheldon Clark and Pike County Central. The Patriots will have several big tests this week as they face Hazard and Breathitt County, both on the road.

 

6.Letcher County Central (5-1):

The Cougars continue to roll. All of their games, except for 1 which was a 66-63 loss to Harlan County, have been blowout wins. Closest game that they won was against Jackson City and that was a 20 point win for the Cougars. Letcher Central has Belfry, East Carter and Nicholas County coming up this week.

 

 

 

7.Leslie County (2-2):

Their exciting win over Knott Central has turned into a nightmare for the Eagles losing their next two games to district rivals Buckhorn and Hazard. Leslie will soar into Jackson on Tuesday to face the Breathitt Bobcats and will return home on Friday to host Riverside Christian.

 

8.Wolfe County (7-0):

The Wolves are off to one of the best starts in recent memory, possibly best starts in school history, sitting at 7-0. Lee County and district foe/arch rival, Breathitt County await the Wolves this week.

 

9.June Buchanan (2-2):

The Crusaders started the season 2-0 but have since went 0-2 with losses to Knott Central and Lawrence County. The Crusaders will host South Floyd on Thursday before heading to Prestonsburg for a weekend tournament.

 

10.Breathitt County (3-2):

The Bobcats started off 2-0 with wins over Riverside Christian and Newport only to go 1-2 in their last 3 games. Leslie County, Morgan County, Wolfe County and Knott County Central await the Bobcats this week.

 

11.Powell County (2-2):

After losing by 19 to Scott County, the Pirates bounced back in a big way, defeating district rival, Lee County by 27, 87-60. Garrad County, Madison Southern, Paintsville and East Jessamine await the Pirates this week.

 

12.Estill County (0-5):

The struggling Engineers are struggling bad. This is one of the worst starts in Engineer history. Madison Southern, Rockcastle County, Union County and two other teams await the Engineers this week.

 

13.Jackson City (1-4):

Jackson City finally picked up their first win on the season on Saturday defeating Allen Central 81-57. The Tigers are set to face Perry Central and Knox Central this week before heading to Tennessee.

 

 

14.Lee County (1-4):

The Bobcats defeated Red Bird to pick up win #1 but have took a beating in their last 2 games. Wolfe County and Buckhorn await the Bobcats this week.

 

 

15.Owsley County (1-7):

The struggling Owls finally got on the winning side of ways with a 60-58 win over Harlan Independent in the Bowman Classic at Lynn Camp. Riverside Christian, Hazard and Jenkins await Owsley County this week.

 

16.Jenkins (0-4):

Jenkins have took beatings this season and this week doesn’t look any easier as they prepare to face off against John Burton VA, Knott Central and Owsley County.

 

17.Riverside Christian (0-5):

The Rams are still looking for win # 1 this season.
