  1. Im going to go with the Tomcats in this one. Their defense has looked tough all season and I think they can stop the Russell running attack and pull out a win. Ashland 17 Russell 13
  2. I think Fairview is an improved team from last year but IMO Raceland is just too much for the Eagles this year. I think Raceland has a tremendous coaching staff and they will have the Raceland players knowing Fairview's offense inside and out by friday. IMO, Raceland coaches do the best job in the area of scouting opposing teams and on top of that, Fairview tends to be very predictable in their offensive scheme. The Rams are gonna have to come ready to play but like Cerebral Assassin said, I dont think Raceland needs any extra motivation for this one. RHS puts it on the Eagles for the fourth year in a row. Rams 36 Eagles 16
  3. Good win for the Rams but I think the Eagles will be much more of a challenge this week. Stay focused Rams.
  4. Good point Ram and very true. Coach Hoof always shows respect for the opponent and rarely, if ever, lets him team put up alot of points in a blow out. This is one of the reasons why I think Coach Hoof has gained the respect of so many coaches around the state. GO RAMS!
  5. I think Ashland will have a hard time stopping Irontons running game. I think this will be hard fought game by both teams. A real barn burner! Ironton 16 Ashland 14
  6. I see this game being alot like it was in 06' for the Rams opposed to last seasons loss to the Raiders. Rams will run the ball at will friday night. Ramblers 41 Raider 15
  7. I dont know about them challenging Raceland or LCA for the district title OldRambler but I do think Fairview will be a solid team this year that the Rams wont be able to take lightly. Congrats to them on the win, impressive score.
  8. Wow, I was way off in my prediction for this game. I only had Ashland winning by a small margin. Was ashland that good tonight or is Pikeville just that bad?
  9. I think its going to be another tough home game for the tomcats but I look for them to pull away in the fourth quarter. Ashland 23 Pikeville 16
  10. Congrats to Aaron! Hope all goes well this season for Pettrey.
  11. Any word on any injuries for either team? Any players going to be out for next week?
  12. Thought Racelands offensive and defensive lines played excellent in last nights game. I think everyone had to be a little suprised when Coach Hoof had his boys in the wish bone on the first series. I really liked how Raceland mixed up their offensive formations and play calls throughout the entire game; the days of Raceland being known as strictly an "air raid" or "passing" team seem to be over. The mixture of the spread and the power running game makes the Rams offense difficult to prepare for and fits their player personal perfect this season. Carver and Denton were alot of fun to watch, they really compliment each other nicely in the backfield. Besides a few first game jitters and mistakes, I thought Raceland played an overall good football game. Also, an excellent turn out by the Raceland fans, as usual. Good win for Raceland, stay focused and keep working hard.
  13. I think you would be really suprised Spindoc, as to how much Raceland has went away from the "air raid" offense they ran when Pettrey and Grizzle were there. They are much more of a ground and pound team this year then in years past. With Pettrey and Grizzle at QB Raceland was 95% shot gun, spread offense but last year they were under center in the I formation, one back, and even some wing T. I look for them to run the ball alot more this year due the the abilities of Denton and Carver. Not saying Boyles isnt a capable thrower because he is a very good QB with a accurate arm but I just think with their backs and O-Line running the ball is the strength of their offense. If it rains, Raceland will be just fine putting it on the ground all night, IMO.
  14. Not disagreeing with you Stat but just wondering...are you not believing the hype that the 08' Rams have been getting? Why only five or six games?
  15. Not being rude to the Russell faithful but I would love to see Greenup County pull of this win friday night. But honestly, I just dont see it happening....Russell grinds out another win for Coach Ivan. Russell 28 Greenup 15
  16. I look for this years game to be very similiar to the trend shown the past two years in this rivalry. A good, hard hitting, hard fought game between two schools with excellent football tradition. In the past, Raceland has been known as the "underdog" for this game but since the 06' and 07' Rams came out on top, I truely think the people and players in Raceland expect to win this game every year. I look for Raceland to have much more of a balanced attack, even more so then last year, and control the clock, with the running abilities of Denton and Carver. IMO this game will come down to who ever makes the fewest turnovers and who ever is in the best phsyical shape in the fourth quarter (conditioning is a HUGE factor in close games). My prediction; The Class "A" Rams make it 3 years in a row against the Class "5A" Tomcats in a very tight game. Hope both teams make it out injury free and good luck to both sides. Raceland 27 Ashland 22
  17. Meet the Rams will be tonight at 7:30, Ram Stadium.
  18. Excellent point Oldrambler. I think that this Raceland team has a ton of talent but their downfall could be that winning football games has always come very easy for this group of kids and Im afraid they are a tad to overconfident at this point. I remember when they were in JFL and junior high, they seemed to run away with alot of games, which at the time was a great confidence builder but I hope that those easy victories havent bloated the heads of some of the players. However, from what I've seen out of this team so far during the summer has been nothing but good, hard work on the football field and in the weight room. There is alot of talent on the field for the Rams in 08' and hopefully they will have the aggressive, persistent attitude that past Raceland teams have been known for.
  19. Nice article and congratulations to Tyler and Todd. Good luck at state guys!
  20. I agree Ram, the Caudill kid has the potential to be a really good one at Raceland. IMO by his soph. year he will be ready to be a full time starter for the Rams.
  21. A huge accomplishment for Paige and the Raceland community couldnt be more proud of her! Good luck at Dayton and in the district/regional tourny!
  22. Obviously G.C. is the favorite in the region and they should be but I dont see them "steam rolling" through the region. The 16th regional tourny is always competitive and I think there are serveral teams that can match up against Greenup and pull off a possibly upset; East, Ashland, and possibly Raceland in the first round of districts. I think G.C. will beat Raceland but there is a chance for the Rams to win if Wilson is on his game and Raceland can manufacture a few runs of Heineman. It is baseball people, ANYTHING can happen. All it takes is for one pitcher to be on and the opposing pitcher to be off his game for one night and its a whole new ball game. Good luck to all the region teams and hopefully everyone gets out of the tourny injury free. I will be rooting for the Rams and crossing my fingers that they pull off the upset tomorrow night against the Musketeers!
  23. Peyton has been a huge part of Raceland's success in baseball over the past 5 years. He started playing varsity ball as an eigth grader and was immediately a big contributer on the varstiy level. He has matured alot and has developed into one heck of a ball player during his high school career. IMO he is the most complete player in the region and has been for the past two seasons. I just want to congratulate him on a great high school career! Keep working hard Peyton and whatever college you decide on will be getting a high quality person and baseball player!
