As I said, I trust the person who told me. They don't typically spew out false information, but whatever happens I'm sure Luke will do fine at UK next year.

I have heard that Maile will not be playing much catch in the future...who knows how accurate it is but I trust the person who I heard it from.

Right but everytime Maile goes up against another catcher are you seriously going to make the comment on him being in another class? I mean, we all know Maile is a good catcher, but saying how he is leagues ahead than every catcher will get old quickly. Liggett did a fine job and thats all that needs to be said. And I also think it's a stretch to say for sure no one else could make that throw. And I agree with Clyde, it's too early to see what this team can really do. Based on the way they've been hitting the first two games, I'd say it can only go up from here. They've done okay, but I know Maile, Darner and Isler can hit a lot better as the season goes on...I'm more worried about the fielding and pitching. After Isler, Nute, and Krumme I think we get weak. And as we saw last year, we need more than three solid pitchers.

Not to take anything away from BC as I'm sure this was well earned, and a good game for them after the loss to NCC, but I am not too shocked by the score. It seems that after Head and Sainola pitching the past couple of days, there is a drop off on the pitching rotation...I think if BC faced Head or Sainola it'd be a different game. They might still win in good fashion but maybe a bit closer.

With CovCath scoring 9 runs and their hitting really not all that outstanding as I feel it has the potential to be and will end up being, I think that's a good showing for them. The usual suspects of Darner, Isler, and Maile brought in 5 of the runs, with Nutini adding another two. The fielding looked pretty good, and the only worry was the pitching. Krumme had a good showing but after that it was an apparent drop off. Hopefully Gerwe and Martin can continue to progress and improve throughout the season, and I'm sure they'll be just fine. Sowder played well for Scott, and Hiller had some nice hits too. Good to see EJ out there playing against a couple of his buddies on the CovCath team.

lol well I'm with you. I can only hope some of the pitchers for CovCath could get up to 93 this year haha. But realistically most will hang around the 70's and low 80's and Isler probably will get high 80s. A consistent 85 to 87 is a good start for Smith.

To clarify, maybe I missed it, but I don't think anyone said that anyone CONSISTENTLY pitches at 90. I know for a fact that one touches 90 and is high 80's consistently. I agree that they are few and far between, but aside from hearing that Smith throws 93, I didn't see anything outrageous. I think most kids throw in the 70's and low 80's..

Looked much better ran than the previous two years and from what I've heard from some kids playing, it's a much better atmosphere. Wirth sounds like he's doing pretty darn well! I did notice they were only using one qb, not sure why. It's only spring so he has plenty of time to improve, but the couple of times I watched I thought it might be nice if there is someone else they can consider in the chance that this one doesn't work out.. Also nice to have Ray on staff. Shows a lot how involved he is this year..

The middle infield still sounds worrisome to me, but it's good to hear Tyler has done some work and improved, as he looked like he was getting better over the summer last year. I'm also skeptical about Warning in the outfield...but otherwise, I think Lafever and Nute out there is solid!

Never believe anything is a done deal, but Holmes will have to completely self-destruct for them not to bring the title home. Have seen both play and Central is a good ball club but Holmes has too many weapons.

Sad to see Elliot Co's dream team end, but Congrats to Holmes! Bring it back home to us!

I want Holmes to win, and I believe they'll do it. They're too much to handle especially if they continue to play the way they have down there at Rupp. If EC does pull this out, I'll have no problem with it and I'll root for them to take it all in the end. I like the team, and it seems like they have a great group of boys and I hate to see their season come to an end.

Let us hope so, that would be nice. Everytime the ball is hit to the middle infield, I hold my breath..

For that matter, let's not get ahead of ourselves. He is a really good hitter and I think he'd do fine in any other region in the state. I think Maile, Darner and Isler would do just as well elsewhere as they do in the 9th, so I dont agree with that argument. But he isn't the purest hitter. And he has a lot of work before he becomes the most funadementally sound catcher ever at the HS level. It's unfair to put those kind of statements out there, because it makes people expect this level all the time, so when they do see them they come away with a different view..we have yet to see the first game of the season! There is a whole lot of ball to played just yet, and if CovCath doesn't make it out of their own region [which I'm hoping they do] then we very well may see someone else end up with this title.

Johnson had a good game, as well as Ricardo! I agree with whoever said "my heart flutters when Rice brings the ball up.."

Yeah, like I said he'll progress and should do fine. But it doesn't surprise me, because from what I can remembered he got hit pretty well. But beyond Smith does Beechwood have any solid pitching for when Smith is having one of these kind of days? I don't follow Beechwood so I'm not sure?

Wow. Surprised. I mean I don't think Beechwood is going to be anything outstanding, but didn't think Dixie would blow them away. Sounds like a sloppy day though. Pretty day to play! As for Smith, I'm sure he'll progress as the season goes, but to be honest, it doesn't shock me that he gave up 3 or 4 in one inning. From what I remember he got shelled a lot.

I too have only seen one QB out there... not sure who it is, but it's been rough so I'm hoping there are other options at least to consider. Other than that, it looks like spring football is being run very well. Already like what I see from the new coach!

I've heard it's PK that will be DHing. And honestly, I really just don't think there should be a DH this year. Like you said, he's a solid enough hitter not to be DH'd for when he is pitching or whatever, but not to DH. The DH should be someone who is going to add something to the hitting lineup and they're probably stronger without..

From what I heard it is not the younger Maile that is the freshman with even a chance of seeing the varsity bench. But who knows? It wouldn't surprise many.

Stayton or Cottingham would be fine to relieve Luke when he needs to be, as CovCath's 2nd best catcher is their 1 or 2 pitcher and first baseman and I see no need in putting him back there if there is someone good enough to handle it for a couple of innings. Also, can't believe I was forgetting Krumme at pitcher. Isler, Nutini, Gerwe, Krumme..not bad.

I remember Luke playing some first, and Isler catching last year. I'd expect more of that than Luke at third. Also heard that Isler will be catching.
