Just curious, did it not rain today in NKY?

 

Rained about 6:00 for like 20 minutes at St. Henry.

 

Any stats on the game TOG?

Before I post my thoughts on the game I must apologize as I don't have any stats to post. I wasn't prepared for the rain as I have been in the past because of the new seating arrangement behind the plate. In years past I could put up my umbrella and not bother anyone but this year.... Well in the future I will be bringing a clear plastic garbage bag with me to keep my score book dry.

 

I also want to add, that I wouldn't have cared one bit if CovCath won or lost this game today in the top of the seventh when they brought in Mattie Klein to pitch. If you had told me in November or December that Mattie would have been healthy enough to even come to the game in April I would have been glad for him and his family, but to get to pitch and to pitch well enough to only allow an infield hit, well God does answer your prayers......

 

 

Isler I believe won the game and did give up the two runs to Highlands but he was in complete control even with giving up the two runs. He threw a total of only 31 pitches (I think he threw four innings) through the third inning, while Ryan Solmia threw close to 60 pitches after three innings. Ryan did strike out Maile in the first but wasn't really shape as he was having trouble with his control throughout his outing.

 

The stars for CovCath were the guy's who you wouldn't think would be the stars, meaning they already are earning my respect and the respect of the CovCath fans Eggermier with two hits, Logan Siemer and Adam Warning. Outstanding games gentlemen.

 

I really wish I had more, but I am wet, cold and tired as this game lasted almost three hours.

 

I will promise that I will be better prepared the next time it rains.....

 

CovCath is to play Scott (kenton Co) at CovCath Saturday @11am now will they play? Who knows......

No worries about not having stats TOG. Heck I was in the dugout for Dixie and am cold and wet.

 

But it is GREAT to hear that Mattie is doing well enough to play. It is awesome news. :thumb:

I was a little surprised that he wasn't in as DH today, but heck as per usual Coach Krumps know best but then to see his come in the seventh to close out the game.... WOW! You just can't understand what that young man has gone through..

Thought the way Krumps moved players around in the field was a little weird. RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION!!!! To many left on base and left in scoring position. I believe CovCath on any other day wins the game by 8. Just getting the first game jitters out.

I only saw 3 innings but Ice was dominant. He owned the low outside corner.

 

Sainola didn't get hit hard when I was there. He was just wild. When he threw strikes he was tough to hit.

It was good to see Coach Baioni have Sainola go after Maile in the first inning. The knee-jerk reaction with no outs 2nd and 3rd would have been to give the four-finger pass to Luke.

 

Instead, Coach B wanted to see what his new pitcher had against a top player. It worked out well.

 

Glad to see him coaching for May rather than coaching for the next inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Coach Baioni with men a man on second, and I believe third (I hate not having stats) Maile received his first of many (I am use) intenentional walk. It worked this time as Darner grounded out to the SS to end the inning. While it was smart baseball and indeed the correct move, I just hate seeing this happening so early in the season. Now if this were a District seeding game, or in a Regional game no big deal, but in the first game of the season?

If you enjoy watching catchers do their thing behind the plate, you have got to come again to the CovCath vs. Highlands game on Monday, to watch Maile and Liggett. They are without any doubt in my mind the two best defensive catchers in NKy and maybe in Kentucky. In saying that however, it's easy to see why Maile is a signed D1 catcher and hot MLB prospect, as he moves, (or should I say glides) behind the plate so well. Liggett is extremelly good, but even a baseball novice could see the difference and that isn't a knock on Liggett at all.

 

Lukes catch, throw and Siemer tag on the very, very fast Oliver Head (yes the HHS football DB and running back) in the top of the fourth to end the inning was a thing of beauty. Maile throw to second was a frozen rope on a line to the lower first base side corner of second base, and hit Siemer glove as Head slide into second base. It was indeed a bang, bang play!

I agree as I hate the intentional walk period but only this time I agree with Coach Baioni. Why have Maile jack a 3 bagger on you when you already came at him early in the game and got him on strikes.

 

The kid has a bright future ahead of him and is already heading to UK and will probably get drafted high so he doesnt have to prove anything to anyone. Nice move Coach B too bad you guys couldnt get the W but it sounds like Isler was throwing cheese seeing his pitch count only at 31 through the first 3.

In Coach Krumps I trust! While I sometimes scratch my head, he has earned the right, not be second guessed! :notworthy:

Oh I totally agree with you, it was the smart move, and indeed the correct baseball move, but I just hate seeing it in HS games, and even more so, this early in the season.

 

Yes Ice was indeed bringing it to the plate Friday. I am sure that this was the first time in a while that he had complete confidence in his ability to throw whatever pitch he wanted, without any pain, or the concern of, am I really okay! I can't wait to see him throw in better conditions!

 

Like I posted earlier, I think Sainolia trouble throwing strikes today, were due to the conditions! Ryan is an outstanding young man and pitcher....

 

Can you image how deep CovCath pitching would be if Ryan (and I totally understand and agree with his moving to HHS) had stayed at CovCath!
