  1. Lara can shoot it like her father (Keith) could. If only there was a 3 point line in 1986! His pull up jumpers from beyond the top of the key were automatic. Lara was automatic last year as a sophomore, drilling 3 after 3. She is on the bench and helping the team in other aspects and kind of a student-assistant coach. Please give her all the encouragement, she tore the ACL, MCL, and Meniscus. Surgery is scheduled somewhere around Dec. 10th.
  2. Nets should be there, please have parking spot saved;)
  3. If no reporter was sent to the game it is up to the home team to call in the score.
  4. Who made this projection? The talent was probably better a year ago with Bender, Ferguson, and Mabery. A lot of size among those three players. This group lacks any experienced inside presence.
  5. Joe Bryan and Bill Renzi came over with him from the girls side. Garry Morris remains on the staff as a scout. Perry Yates continues as freshman coach.
  6. Was ejected from Ashland's last football game.
  7. A program built on transfers is one made of sand. You cannot neglect your younger kids and the feeder program. Hopefully the program can be built from the youth leagues. The high school coaches need to be a part of the program at every level. Not just build for one team.
  8. You said your son was averaging 26 points a game. Yet, he scored over 20 points in only 4 games. Those 4 games must have been 50 point efforts. Thats a lot to average when you only go over 20 4 times.
  9. Surprising that Raceland, a team dripping with football tradition, has not won a regional football title.
  10. Lewis will be without Witten as well. Should be a good matchup, but then again it is Ashland vs Lewis. I'll take Ashland by 10.
  11. Can the Tomcats win without Bonner in the Lions Den?
  12. Although I don't want to totally disregard teams development by playing a tough schedule.... Playing a tough, tougher, or toughest schedule could be one of the most over-rated hypes in H.S. basketball. What matters is each individual game. The hard fought win or loss in December or early January has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the game they play in the 1st round of the district, the regional semi-final or 1st round of state tournament. What matters is how a team plays from 7:30 to 8:45 on a given Tuesday or Friday night and that game only...does anyone think that playing a "tough" schedule makes a physical or even psychological difference to the Faulkner(s), Ferguson, Knipp with 1:30 left to play against some other team and they are running to their spots on floor and ready to shoot, pass, cut, or or crash the glass????? Nope....the team they are playing on that night has a lot to do with it...the flow of the individual game has a lot to do with it....upsets happen and can happen at any time, but it will certainly not be because of the schedule they played...it'll be because of the events that happen within the game itself. I wonder how many coaches get their teams in the huddle and say "Guys, remember that tough loss or win we had the in the tournament in December, because of that game, you will make your next 3 pointer and will not turn it over against the weaker opponent....." There is a whole lot that actually goes into winning a game....one thing I don't believe does, are past performances against good or bad teams, tough or tougher schedules. Each game is different and all that matters in late Feb. and early March is surviving, advancing, and continuing your season.
  13. Agree on Fugate, saw highlights of him on Friday night and he is a beast. I also think Coach Mike Holcomb should receive a lot of credit for doing a heck of a job and be considered for Kentucky Coach of the Year. It seems as if Breathitt really hasn't garnered much statewide recognition this season and they are deserving. Also Coach Jones from Estill County has rebuilt the engineers and finished the season with 11-2 record is quite an accomplishment.
  14. I guess Lewis County was one of the bigger names on the schedule. The Lions, led by Bloomfield and Gaunce and coached by Gary Kidwell, won three straight districts during the careers of Adkins and Salyers. The "77 team gave the Final Four Ashland team all they wanted in the regional tournament.
  15. Jeff Marksberry had turned a doormat 10 years ago into a state semifinalist. Kudos to him and his staff.
  16. halftikme Hazard 28 Pikeville 0
  17. Coach Henley always does a masterful job of molding each of his teams. They are fundamentally sound defensively as well. Coach Henley is one of Kentucky's best and he has an outstanding staff as well.
  18. Leslie Eagle is without a doubt the best player in the 16th region. She is extremely strong with the basketball and mega-athletic. The Lady Cougars played great with limited experience the on the court. Losing Lara Hembree to an ACL injury a couple of weeks ago hurts them offensively, but Coach Brown does have some solid young talent in Freshman Brittany Stamper and Freshman Faith Slone.
  19. Bonner out the opener vs Lewis due to ejection last Friday night?
  20. Ashland was playing without Strait and won by 29. Gambill will help them and the Connor girl is much improved. Lewis played well for a half. Morgan played solid against a good JC team. Russell won by about 15. They played very well with Simpson and Parsley leading the way. Their guards also shot it very well.
