I just want to start a thread where all of us Raceland fans, and anyone else that wishes, could thank the Raceland 2008 Seniors for a great season. And, to list some of their accomplishments for the season.

 

This team had many memorable moments, but just to highlight some of them: a big win to start the season beating Ashland for the third year in a row, a big accomplishment for Raceland, who many thought years ago that Raceland couldn't compete with Ashland. A big win at Russell for the first Raceland win over Russell since the 70's, after a 34 year laps in the series. A big district win against a very good LCA in the regular season to propel Raceland to their 19 District Championship. A perfect 10-0 regular season, only the second undefeated season in Raceland History. This team was also the first Raceland team to win 12 games in one season.

 

The Seniors were a great unit for years and have many accomplishments. Bret Denton had his second consecutive thousand yard rushing season with 1,414 rushing yards on the year.

 

John-Scott Carver also had a thousand yard rushing on the year with, 1,270 rushing yards and added 276 receiving yards.

 

Tyler Boyles had his second consecutive thousand yard passing season with 1,309 passing yards.

 

Receiving, Todd Selvage had 523 receiving yards leading the way. Brian Tolliver, who was injured most of the season, and Tomas Watson helped out in the receiving area.

 

The OL/DL was phenomenal all season. D1 prospect Robbie Logan led the way, Rocky Jobe, Kory Baldridge, and Cody Chinn all were a great line that, like always, never got the amount of credit they deserved.

 

Tate Preston did a good job with the kicking game, after taking over for Pettrey and Sparks. Tate kicked the winning FG in the win over LCA and make several clutch kicks thought the season.

 

Alex McCoy came in situation and made some plays to round out the senior class, in which all the seniors contributed in some way.

 

Congratulation and thank you all these seniors. They several things that no other Raceland team had done. And they all did it with great sportsmanship and with humility. They were a pleasure to be associated with, and a pleasure to watch all season.

Congrats on a great season Rams!! It won't be forgotten by the Raceland faithful, I'm sure of that. I was really pulling for ya but it's just so difficult to just get to the carpet. So many things have to go right and you have to have a bit of luck. I'm heartbroken for the kids, especially the seniors on this team. I've seen the look on a kid's face after they lose the biggest game of their life. After some time you will be able to look back with fondness on this season but I know it's difficult now. You have left this program in even better shape then before you got here and not many kids can say that, you should be proud. Good luck to you all!!

Congrats Raceland becoming one of the states top football programs anytime that you can beat Ashland three years in a row is something special congrats on a great season.

Congratultion's Ram's,you had a great season and i never heard anything but praise for your sportsmanship.Played with a lot of class,good luck to the senior's with your future's,and as far as the rest of the underclassmen,look forward to follwing you next year as well.

I am glad that you started this thread Ram. Congrats to the 2008 Raceland Ram Football Team. This group started out all togather in JFL and continued to set new standards for the group/groups coming up behind them at all leverls.

 

This 2008 season was no different.

 

1.)This was the first Raceland team to achieve a #1 State Class A ranking.

 

2.) The first Raceland team to win 12 games in a season.

 

3.) This team before Friday night was the only unbeaten team in Class A in 2008.

 

4.) This Raceland team won another EKC Conference title.

 

5.) This Raceland team won the 18th (or 19th, not sure) District Championship at Raceland.....(34 years of football being divided into districts and 18 titles out of 34 years :thumb:).

 

6.) This Racland team broke a 5 game losing streak to Russell (there was quite a few years (33 I believe) between the last Raceland/Russell game last season and the fall of 1974. Raceland last won in 69', lost in 70,71,72,73,74. (I think that those are correct)

 

7.) This Raceland team won it's 3rd straight over Ashland at Putnam Stadium.

 

This season the Raceland Rams varsity went 12-1, the Rams JV went 8-1......a 20-2 combined record! Those two losses were by 3 and 7 ponts, 10 ponts combined. This tells me that the Raceland Football Program and Tradition is in good shape!!

 

I also want to mention BGP's moderator..."Ram", this man along with Cvillecat's brother coached all of these kids on this years Rams team through their JFL years . These two men deseve a lot of credt for instilling the fundamentals of the game and an winning program/attitude in these kids at a very young age.

 

I want to say Thank You again to all of this years players and coaches, especially this years seniors. "Once a Ram....Always a Ram" Seniors, you will not be forgotten.

 

Yes, I am still stinging over the LCA loss on Friday, I hate to lose as much as anyone and more than most. I will as always stay with my Rams and will be back next season ready to go !! :thumb:

Congrats!! Rams on all of your accomplishments this season and on a truly great season. I enjoyed reading all the threads about the Rams this season whether it be about your pregame meal or post game threads.....

There's not much I can add to the above posts. Just a personal thanks to my Rams for a truly enjoyable year of football. Of all the years I've been going to Racelands games. and thats a lot, I'm a '75 alumni, except for the years my sons played this was the best.

Also thanks to the BGP'ers for a fun season. A special thanks to the supporters from other schools.

This is a very appropriate thread and one which exemplifies exactly how this special season will be remembered for generations to come. As these various accolades are recognized, the numbing sting of last Friday night will succumb to just how exceptional Ram Football was in 2008.

 

Ram, and all the other Raceland faithful are much better equipped at identifying specifics than this Ashland fan, but, regardless of what team you call your own…I admire the focus and dedication which Raceland has displayed all season long.

 

Best of luck to these seniors as they continue their lives…whether it includes football, text books, or skilled trades…I hope you take the value of what this sport has taught you in your next endeavor.

 

As for the underclassmen, you have been shown the way and how to do it…preparation for next August starts TODAY.

Congrats on a wonderful season. Don't let falling short of your goal divert your eyes from the prize! Good luck Raceland next season.

I have been going to Raceland games since around 67'-69 or so when my sisters (also Raceland alums) would take me whe they were in school.

This Raceland team was special as was the last one that went unbeaten in the regular season (can't rmemebr the year right now, was in the 80's).

The last 10-0 season was '96. My nephew was on that team. That was another great year. Watching coach Salmons (spelling?) run the ball was a pleasure.

Painter made a very good point earlier ......"Ram players", next season is NOW! Should you go into it and through all the pre season workouts/running/lifting and all other preparations and practice/spring ball/fall practice/camp Ram 2009, etc.,etc. as you did this season then good things will continue to happen. :thumb:

Cvillecat's nephew was also on that team and was an unbelievable Defensive end.
