Congrats to the Raceland players, coaches, and fans on a great season. I know the loss hurts, but you were the number one ranked team in the state and this is something you will remember as long as you live, especially the seniors. I only had the privilege to see one game this year, but even being an outsider it has been a real joy to follow your amazing season. The players and the fans have showed nothing but class the entire season and it makes Raceland football look like a class act. I also wanted to say that the coaching staff at Raceland is second to none, and you are very fortunate to have such a fine group of coaches. Good luck next year.

I never in a million years thought I would be rooting for the Orange and Black, but here I am. Congrats to all of the Raceland players. You have nothing to hang your head about. It was an absolute thrill to watch you all play this year. You played like the Champions that you are. Here's to hoping for many more successful years to come.

I just want to start a thread where all of us Raceland fans, and anyone else that wishes, could thank the Raceland 2008 Seniors for a great season. And, to list some of their accomplishments for the season.

 

This team had many memorable moments, but just to highlight some of them: a big win to start the season beating Ashland for the third year in a row, a big accomplishment for Raceland, who many thought years ago that Raceland couldn't compete with Ashland. A big win at Russell for the first Raceland win over Russell since the 70's, after a 34 year laps in the series. A big district win against a very good LCA in the regular season to propel Raceland to their 19 District Championship. A perfect 10-0 regular season, only the second undefeated season in Raceland History. This team was also the first Raceland team to win 12 games in one season.

 

The Seniors were a great unit for years and have many accomplishments. Bret Denton had his second consecutive thousand yard rushing season with 1,414 rushing yards on the year.

 

John-Scott Carver also had a thousand yard rushing on the year with, 1,270 rushing yards and added 276 receiving yards.

 

Tyler Boyles had his second consecutive thousand yard passing season with 1,309 passing yards.

 

Receiving, Todd Selvage had 523 receiving yards leading the way. Brian Tolliver, who was injured most of the season, and Tomas Watson helped out in the receiving area.

 

The OL/DL was phenomenal all season. D1 prospect Robbie Logan led the way, Rocky Jobe, Kory Baldridge, and Cody Chinn all were a great line that, like always, never got the amount of credit they deserved.

 

Tate Preston did a good job with the kicking game, after taking over for Pettrey and Sparks. Tate kicked the winning FG in the win over LCA and make several clutch kicks thought the season.

 

Alex McCoy came in situation and made some plays to round out the senior class, in which all the seniors contributed in some way.

 

Congratulation and thank you all these seniors. They several things that no other Raceland team had done. And they all did it with great sportsmanship and with humility. They were a pleasure to be associated with, and a pleasure to watch all season.

 

Nicely said Ram. I really didn't know much about Raceland coming into the season. Watching your threads, it was easy to se your pride in this program. It was fun, as an outsider, to follow the Rams through your posts. Nice work.:thumb:

Thanks Skunk, we take pride in our football team, no matter how they do, and this year was fun for everyone. There is a tremendous amount of community support for the Raceland program, most of the people on BGP from Raceland, and most of the fans at the games do not have children on the team, they just like supporting the Rams.

You can root for Raceland anytime you want, we won't tell anyone. I know this Ram Fan would have been rooting for Greenup County and Russell as long as they were still alive in the playoffs.

Nothing much I can add that hasn't already been said. What an awesome season and a great group of young men.

I don't know where to begin. Maybe the first thing I should say is that I love Raceland Ram football! I am an outsider that walked into these boys lives 3 years ago at the work of Mr. Bill Farley and Coach Maynard. I was accepted and respected from the very moment I met any of the Ram players. They did not know me or where I was from or why I was there, but I was immediately referred to as "coach" and later they knew I was "doc". Ever since that first night in August 2006 at Putnam Stadium, I have been a Ram. And as we all know, "Once a Ram, always a Ram". I am spoiled, as the Rams have won 30 and lost 8 in my 3 years here (5-3 in the playoffs and pretty close to 2 Regional championships and have won 2 District championships). I watched as these seniors played on a very good 2006 team and everyone affiliated with the team knew the best team was going to be in 2008, and we were right. This incoming senior class has great shoes to fill in the leadership department. This years senior class led by example and not vocally. They played the game with a quiet confidence that make most players stand in awe. I really hope that the 2009 team doesn't let this sting of a round 3 playoff loss pull them down, use it as motivation to go farther. This season was not the culmination Ram fans, merely an example or a raising of the bar for the future teams. I know that when Nathaniel straps on a helmet in 2016 as a freshman, I expect him to be practicing on Thanksgiving for 4 years. And I hope that this years experience motivates a lot of players to strive for that same special moment. It is very much a custom in the Beechwood area to practice on Thanksgiving and their families work around it, and I hope us Raceland families learn how to coordinate such things, too.

So to all you 2008 senior football players, I'll miss you tremendously. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to Ram football. I know that everyone of you will be sucess' at what ever you chose to do. Most of all, thank you for being such great young men that our younger boys can look up to. I know I wouldn't mind seeing a few of these boys trying to be like you.

It is truly a special place to raise your children and experience the Ram Legacy. 2010 my son will a freshman on the Raceland team, I look forward to some great memories, and he already has the Ram fever.

Another great season for Raceland football. I really thought this was the year for the Rams to make it to Louisville. I've always said its not how good you are, its when your good. The Rams were in a great position to make it because not only did they have a very good team, they also heavily benefited from the 6 class system and the fact that they did not have to play a northern KY school until the finals. It really seemed like this was the year that everything lined up for the Rams. But it just wasnt meant to be. The 08' team gave it their all and I still think they deserved to make it to the carpet. Both Raceland and LCA were outstanding football teams but someone's gotta win and someone has gotta lose. I dont think by any means LCA was the better team, they just had a better night that night. If those two teams would've played ten times this year, each time probably would have won 5 times. Raceland has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. This years team is among the best all-time in Raceland history, no doubt about it. It was alot of fun watching them play and Im proud that they carried on the Raceland tradition.

The loss still stings, of that I am certain.

 

But when you guys come back to visit next year, and the year after that, and ten years after that, wearing those 2008 Raceland Ram jackets; everyone in the stadium will remember what you meant to Raceland football.

Cherish every second of it. I had 2 sons that were Rams. We were deeplly involved with the program ever since the JFL days. Senior night will be here before you know it.
