Thank you for posting this. I was a "Band Geek" back in high school. Qualifying for State, and going down to EKU, was a huge thing for us. Sadly, it seems that more and more schools are giving less and less to the Music Dept. Case in point: In 1996 (my Junior year), Greenup County was a solid 3A band. Roughly 70 members. We went to Florida for a Parade/Marching show competition. This year, GCHS and Raceland combined could barely make a decent sized 1A band. I was told by some Greenup band boosters that the school wouldn't even pay for the band to go to any competitions this year. If this is the case, then it's very sad for all the kids who want to play music, and compete, but can't.
