  1. David Patrick of WKYT is a Morgan Co. graduate and has done a great job with exposure of our kids at Morgan Co. for several years, in addition, he has given great exposure to Elliott County and sports in north-eastern Kentucky. He is an asset to the area and does a great job.
  2. Kayla Kelly rolled an ankle late in 2nd quarter. Never returned and it greatly hurt the Lady Cougars. East blitzed Morgan 30-15 in 2nd half. Sounded like a battle in this strong district.
  3. East Carter executed very well and pounded the Cougars in the paint. Cougars looked good early and then went through scoring drought. Raiders led by as many as 15 late before a furoious rally by the Cougars to cut it to 3 Raiders hang on and hit their free throws late to preserve the 7 point win. The Cougars are an improved team from last season and will win games and score a few upsets this season in my opinion. The Cougars will knock off a higher ranked team in the 16th before the year is out. Coach Baker has done a great job and have the Raiders in a great position in December.
  4. Solid win for the Lady Cougars. A boat load of missed layups by the Lady Cougars was frustrating. The depth of the Lady Cougars is an underrated part of this team. 8th grader Faith Slone hit a big three and the bench played very well. Lady Cougars are a very young team that is improving, but seriously, make yoru layups!!!!!!!
  5. Huge district game on Saturday night. East has proved to be legit. Cougars are improving. These two teams have never had a blowout in recent memories. Seems like score is always in the 50's.
  6. Hampton is a quality coach because he gets as much as anybody out of the talent level he has. His kids play harder than anyone and they always get better and progress. An example was last year...when I saw them personally play at Boyd Co in December they looke horrid. Beat by a subpar South Floyd team on 60 foot heave. From that point on they got better....and better and better. Ultimately playing their best at the end of the season and knocking off a much more talented Greenup County team. He has always competed with the best and his track record proves that. Just the other night he had whom many think is a top #4 team in the region Fairview on the ropes and into OT. Joe Hampton is highly regarded in the coaching circles and in general.
  7. Where are all the RH supporters? What kind of talent do they have coming up? Did they lose everything from the talented bunch last year? Justafan23...it's the Lady Royals BTW.
  8. Russell is a top 7 team. They have played well.
  9. High ranking for the Lady Cougars. Best team since 1993 and 1994 teams. Very athletic with multiple weapons and solid bench play.
  10. Elliott County plays for 32 minutes is their only fault. I'm sure fans of other teams wish their team would play for 32 minutes.
  11. I had to miss this game at the last minute as my son was sick and went to Dr. I did hear Morgan had their chances late but couldn't capitalize. I have no stats but the Cougars have improved from their 1st week till now. Huge game on Saturday vs. a very good East Carter team at Morgan County. Coach Perry will have them improving each night. Keep chopping wood.
  12. Scott Humphrey is one of the better coaches in Kentucky. How some novices can critique aspects of the game and make suggestions begs me to ask the famous question "What credentials do you have as a coach?" Humphrey is top-notch...like many have said before, respected by many at every part of the state.
  13. Sagraves and Tyler Jackson are injured for East Carter right now and I don't think played in East's win over Rowan. Any idea on when they will be ready?
  14. Since I'm terrible at predicting I won't even touch this game. Cougars are jekyll/hyde...played good 1st half vs. Elliott but still got took behind woodshed, laid an EGG at Montgomery, scrapped and looked more confident vs. Bath County.
  15. Elliott County's turn-around has been outstanding.
  16. Impressive win for Lady Devils. A game many probably would have thought to be closer than expected. Excellent start for Coach Kidwell and staff at Russell.
  17. Zak Metz is an absolute animal and would have made a big difference in the game. Also hope Scott Trusty recovers from the nasty collision. As far as the officiating, I have seen MUCH worse than yesterday. Yesterday's Bath County loss should probably be more directed and given excuses for Zak Metz not playing rather than blaming the officials on a 14 point loss. I'm sure many in blue thought there were as many 'push off's' as there were people in red saying there were hand checks. Bath when healthy should cruise in the 61st district. They have athletic players than in time will challenge the better teams in the 16th region. I can really see them making a late season run like they did last season. They were an exciting group last year and play very hard. Blandon Clemons uses his body well, looks like he shoots a two-handed layup, but it is smooth and he can get to any spot on the floor he wants to. If Bath Co. can find another player to be a threat offensivley along with Clemons, a healthy Metz (who should average around 15-18 ppg when back) and the Trusty kid, then Bath will be much more formidable.
  18. In overtime... Lady Cougars trailed by 8 in 4th...finished on 12-4 run. Morgan didn't to play particularly well...forced many consecutive turnovers but couldn't capitalize. Alyssa Dulen was big. Huge block on Stevens with 11 seconds to play. Lady Cougars ended game with 3 Freshman on floor and played 11 kids. Great depth for Coach Brown. A huge victory for the Morgan County Lady Cougars basketball program. A win over West Carter with their tradition and respect they have throughout the state means a lot. The 62nd district is by far the most brutally tough of the 4 16th region girls districts....should be a wild district tournament.
  19. Morgan County plays jekyll and hyde this week. Played like misfits at Montgomery and then play much better in today's EKC Shootout at East Carter. Cougars trailed by 5 28-23 at the half. Morgan executed in the halfcourt and got several layups and also shot the basketball well. Blandon Clemons had 41 points for Bath County. Impressive night as he was the only offensive weapon Bath seemed to have. He's very strong with the ball and overall great performance. Cougars get lift from Joel Nickell off the bench with 9. Morgan CO. seemed more offensive minded and got more shots on goal...kids were looking to shoot, create, and played with energy. Congrats Coogs.
  20. If man to man got him up 11 points, why switch to a porous defense that would allow 3-ball looks and a greater opportunity of getting offensive boards by the opposing team? Many coaches who "teach" the game well often stick with their man principles. While coaches question themselves all the time; this may be one case in which a zone defense might not be the best answer. In addition, a zone is just as vulnerable for a team, when the opposiiton is lightning quick and could penetrate the gaps. Although a zone will make three point shots more availabel....a zone doesn't necessarily make the other team shoot it from 30 feet. With Holmes being coaches extremely well (Henley) I'm positive he would have attacked and bludgeoned the zone to pieces just as easy as m2m. Both (Henley and Steiner) are top notch coaches.
  21. Will be first trip back to Mt. Sterling and 1st in the new arena for Morgan County, since their 53-33 win a few years back in 2003 at the barn. Hopefully the Cougars can rebound from the buzzsaw they ran into on Friday night. The scary thing vs. Elliott, is that Morgan Co. didn't really play that bad! Especially in the first half. Will be great to renew a great series between these two great schools.
  22. Good win for Raceland but I wonder how many football players Central had out? They are competing for a state football championship vs. Belfry this week. I would assume several athletes play both football and basketball at Central. Either way, congrats to the Orange!
  23. I cheated her 8 points!
  24. Elliott takes Greenup behind the Woodshed.
