Ashland 52 Morgan Co 46
I agree INt.Foul...on Ashland's half court D...it was great...it held Fugate and Kelly to 1-15 from the floor including 15 straight blanks.... Those three's are not implying anything less than the reality that they went in. On Ashland leading virtually from beginning to end....Morgan co. lead in the first quarter 10-4 before Ashland went on 10-0 run. Ashland has the size and guard play to win this region, but with so many teams with different match ups...it'll depend on the draw, a call, and a bounce of the ball.

Ashland 52 Morgan Co 46
Dating back to the Rowan Co. game that included a last second shot at the buzzer, Morgan endured a last second three pointer by Ashland in the 1st quarter and a half court bank shot at halftime. Unreal. 3 consecutive last second shots, culminating in the half court heave.....hard to win when shots like that keep falling for the other team. Lady Cougars couldn't get over the 5-7 point deficit...they cut it to 3 or 4 midway through 4th...but couldn't get the baskets to fall when they needed to.

Is Elliott the best 16th Region team ever?
As for the Morgan Co. match-up...the 2003 team may have been better suited at stopping this current 2008 Elliott team. Morgan didn't exactly blow everyone out, but when matched up with explosve offensive teams, they handled themselves pretty well...remember it's all about the indvidual match ups... Just to compare a little bit....I do remember a night watching Justin Perry, who is probably one of the strongest natural PG's to ever play the position in the 16th region totally lock down Stephen Kidd on a couple of occassions, Perry had 9 blocked shots (all perimeter on kid) ALthough Kidd had one of the quickest releases I've ever seen, the burly and long armed Perry had his way. Nearly forgot, the 9 block shot game was when Kidd was at Rowan Co. The 2003 team was not as offensively gifted as this 2008 Elliott County team, however, the trump card is that Morgan was Mega-Quick, Super Strong and very Big....Morgan Co. had two players who could bench press over 300LBS...Ryan Williams is as good a leaper has I have seen in a long long while and his strength was unreal. Havens a 6'5" forward and Aljic, who averaged 14ppg, 11rpg and shot 81% at the FT was a formidable unit. The 2004 Regional Championship team was special in that all pieces of the puzzle clicked, they were lockdown defenders, and half court executioners...the 2006 team was the perfect season gone awry in 32 minutes...quite possibly the biggest upset in 16th history over the past 10 years... As for comparisons, this Elliott County team is DARN good, very good, scary good, but depending on the "match up" they can be given fits, a strong, powerful, big team can trump some of their weapons...but who's really to say who is better. As of right now, Elliott Co. is proving that at least, the do indeed deserve to be mentioned with the best ever...

Best players in 16th. region?
Very possible that 6'4" Andrew Fannin will be healthy enough to pitch this season for Morgan County. He played last year but only 1st Base...he was an outstanding pitcher before rotator cuff surgery...if he can pitch...he'll help bolster a solid staff with Lopez, Nickell, Harvey, and Jesse Cox

GRC vs Rowan Co
Scott Humphrey doing an outstanding job this season. Losing Knowles and company last season and "COMPETING" the way they are should make people in Winchester very happy not only for this season, but what they have coming up. JWB.lxg

Rowan County 55 Morgan County 54 (OT)
Excellent game and Morgan Co. lead throughout until late in the 4th. Lady Cougars were in control at 41-33 late in 3rd and Rowan Co. got a break and tap out to hit a three....Rowan rallied behind that turning point. Leslie Eagle for Morgan was the best player on the court. 33 points and was tough to handle in the open court. Coach Jeff Brown did an excellent job of not only the zone but then doing focusing more on trying to deny Riddle the basketall in the middle...I really liked the Riddle girl who I thought if she got the ball in the paint, she could've scored at will. Morgan's 30 FT could have been 40 or more...but that's due to Rowans in your shirt pressure. Well officiated game and don't let the numbers fool anyone, a zone will yield far less fouls than constant pressure. 16th is all about match-ups...Morgan matches up well with Rowan but Rowan may match up with a team like Elliott or Ashland better...There are 5 teams that could win this region. There is no clear cut #1, Ashland at Morgan on Thursday will be the last test hurdle for the Lady Cougars to see where they stand with the top of the pack.

Who is the best basketball official in your region?
Morgan County had the Bluegrass Basketball Association crews for a few games over the past few years and always thought they did an outstanding job. I think a few games in which Morgan Co. lost were actually very well officiated games.

Who is the best basketball official in your region?
16th is top heavy IMO...the veteran's and more experienced are the best over the course of the season. Davin Barnett has had rave reviews as being a top notch young official from the reps in the Ashland/Boyd/Greenup area. Hopefully he will stay with it over the course of time and quickly move up the ladder.

Morgan County's Head Coach Brandon Evans
Head baseball coach Brandon Evans will remain as the Cougars skipper. Evans guided the Cougars to a 62nd district baseball championship and 22-11 record last season. Coach Evans has a bumper crop of talented youngsters coming up and looks forward to continuing on with this solid group. He orginally resigned citing work related expectations and committments. It's also important to note that Morgan County has a really good feeder program in little league with some solid coaching at the youth levels...I look for that continued cohesion to help enhance the entire program. Morgan County will also be in their 2nd year of a middle school baseball team.

Lexington Christian fined over financial aid to athletes
Yet just another eye-opener as to why public schools get so irritated. When given the chance....well...I might as well not go there. Unreal.

Scott 66 Brossart 59
Tiger1, I thought you were a Scott Eagles fan? Brad Carr's teams are very well coached and sound in all phases of the game. This season is certainly not last season, but it seemed that Coach Carr seemed to have his team's playing it's best in MARCH...that's when his team was within a few made free throws in the regional tournament from advancing to the regional championship last year. So there is proof, at least, that in season's past, Scott is very much indeed a factor. Seems like there is sometimes some sour grapes toward Scott H.S. when there is no need to be. The best predictor of the future is what you have done in the past same circumstances, there is no need to assume that they wouldn't be a factor and it's mind boggling to think they wouldn't be after posting a current 3-0 record. Maybe some are just wishing for failure as some sort of self-satisfaction? Who's knows....but I've seen it in other threads before with similar rhetoric. Just a thought.

Can Raceland give Elliot County a run for their money in the all 'A'
No dice.

Morgan Co. coach resigns???
I think Cubster forgot a word in his post...

Morgan Co. 53 Rowan Co. 49
Cougars had the lead throughout the game. Rowan stayed in it all night with Blake Pettit and Jason Brockman. Cougars shot the ball well early and hit free throws down the stretch. Fyffe was big off the bench and Cameron Dunn played another oustanding game.

Russell 64 Elliott Co. 56
I think I missed it to. Will never doubt Lady Devils:p

West Carter 65 Morgan County 51
West Carter had a lot of energy and did play very well as a team. Although Morgan is now 4-7, I do feel they are much better than record indicates. Morgan Co. actually had 13 straight defensive stops in the 3rd quarter last night and only yielded 4 points. That was big.... West Carter's bank shot 3 by Logan at end of 1st started a big run. Lucky shot was about like one of his lucky 20 foot putts on the golf course. Cougars seem to gain momentum but then a charge call on Brandon Ferguson changed mo around and West went on another run. Should have been an AND1 but so be it. Chris Barker is the most underrated "athlete" in the 16th region. His hands are exceptional....big, strong, and and when he catches it can score with back to basket. He is also an outstanding Center in football. Overall, West Carter has Morgan's number 3 victories out of 4 trips to WBGL. At one time Morgan county had one of the best home court records in all of Kentucky over a 5 year stretch...the Comets broke the armor a few years back and have seemed to be on their "A" game vs. the Cougars ever since. Cougars will continue to improve and with traditional arch-rival Rowan County coming to WBGL on Thursday night, I look for the Cougars A game and continued improvement. This team is better than they atually believe they are....

Raceland @ Greenup County
Seed the district! As for the game, didn't Lewis County lead by 4 late in the 3rd? Just an example you have to bring it every night. Raceland is a formidable team but like everyone else ranked 2 through whatever, not good enough to sleep walk against anybody.

East Carter 63 West Carter 43
How is East Carter not 10-3 good? East is athletic at all positions on the court. Coach Baker has always employed an offensive system with tremendous movement and discipline and one of the more difficult to prepare for. Their players are well coached and execute. They have perimeter scoring threats and an inside presence with Sagraves, Barnhill, and Kyle Baire(spelling?) They are extremely physcial and fundamentally sound. IMO, they are 10-3 good and a top 2,3, 4 team in the 16th depending on a given night.

Morgan County 83 Greenup County 45
Cougars cruise to big home win. 7-12 from 3 point range, no other details. Huge district game vs. West Carter on Tuesday night at Morgan County. Congrats to the Cougs.

Elliott Co. 56 Morgan Co. 50
Great job by the staff at EC who have turned their program around. Of course they have some outstanding talent on that team as well. But where they used to be and where they are at now is a great accomplishment and well deserved. Lady Cougars shoot 3-17 from the free throw line and I think there was just a shade under 3,875,984,904 whistles blown in the ball game. I look for a Elliott County Vs. Morgan County district match up in the 1st round if things continue to fall into place.

Holmes 75 Magoffin Co 19
...Dang Dave! I thought it was Bullogs (no d)? Arrez Henderson probably locked up the best scorer Magoffin Co. had and maybe the whole team, he is a defensive animal.

Elliott County 80 Grace Academy, TN 72
Solid win for Elliott County, yet another notch in the belt vs. a quality out of region opponent. Is CovCath next?

Elliott County/Grace Academy Updates

Fairview 56 Morgan Co. 49
Cougars look to get over hump...lost by 7 to Fairview and East Carter and 3 points to Rose hill...they are on the brink!! They need a win... Right now as I type the Cougars are beating Hart County 15-10 with 1:25 left in the 1st quarter.... Go Cougs.
