Top Five Coaches in the 16 Region.
If only A-train/Jtrusty were still available on BGP, we'd have a host of pictures of our 16th region coaches...he polished up some of Coach Perry at Morgan Co. and they are classic images. I'm laughing just thinking about it... Also, one of the best threads of all time on BGP was "what type of house do coaches live in" in the 16th region...I doubt anyone can remember that thread but I wish we could dig it up, some great photo shop's conducted...I think FASTBREAK was in on a few of them...

Morgan County's Leslie Eagles....
Yes, that confuses the fine people in Leslie County who think in this forum that the talk is about the Leslie County Eagles basketball team! :ylsuper:

16th Region Greatest Athlete/Basketball Players
Leslie Eagle... She has not played softball in two years, but as a youngster was regarded as one of the best around and is a pure athlete. The ability to run, jump, and put body in athletic positions and make plays defines an athlete to me. Reminds me a lot of Andy Lewis on the boy's side who could do anything athletically on the football field and basketball court. Her instincts, strength, and athleticism is big time. Hard to judge if she is a better athlete than those mentioned, but she is at least to that level and just as good in terms of athleticsim. The rest is purely argumentative and all have valid points.

Elliott Co. @ Menifee Co All A 16th Semifinal
Nice Bass Dale! What did you catch it on? Elliott by a bunch vs. the Fee. Menifee is one of the better scoring teams in the region, so they will make shots.

East Carter 46 Morgan County 31
East Carter's defense had a lot to do with Morgan's lack of offense. The Lady Raiders held Morgan Co. to 10-47 shooting. Leslie Eagle missed several shots within 10' and several layups, she got shots but couldn't finish. East was balanced in scoring as well and whipped the Lady Cougars and avenged the earlier loss to Morgan Co. It's possible Morgan could return a double digit scorer in Soph. Brittany Stamper within the next week, if so, that should take a lot of pressure off of Eagle and Tessa Henry, who has stepped up and played very well. Good win for East Carter.

Should home schoolers be on public basketball teams?

Morgan County 52 East Carter 43
Morgan County plays its best game since the 2006 season. Morgan really made the Raiders work defensively and took care of the basketball. Defensively the Cougars did a great job on Barnhill and also contesting the other shooters. With Morgan holding a 13 point lead, I thought the Cougars stopped looking to score for about a 3:00 minute stretch and during that time East turned up the defensive heat and got it back to within 5 points. I knew the Cougars still needed to score points to keep East at bay and down the stretch they did and made their FT's. Tyler Adkins played outstanding all over the court and IMO, Tanner Roy is the regions most underrated and unheard of Point Guard. Cameron Dunn had 17 points including a 25 foot bomb in the 1st half that seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game. Turning point could have been Barnhill's missed donk. The Raiders had rallied and cut into the lead and had the momentum, however Morgan takes the rebound down and gets a layup and that might have been an AND1 as well, I forget. Cougars clicked and played their best game. DISTRICT TIE-BREAKER: Here's the deal...If Morgan beats West Carter (2) times coming up, then Morgan grabs the #2 seed out right. IF Morgan splits with West Carter, and then West Carter beats East Carter one more time, then Morgan gets the #3 seed. If Morgan County loses both to West Carter and East Carter loses to West Carter 1 more time, and East/Morgan are tied, the third tie-breaker is OVERALL WINNING % Vs. all games on the schedule EXCLUDING TOURNAMENT GAMES (SUCH AS CHRISTMAS TOURNEYS, ETC). So it would come down to winning % if they are tied. Lots of hoops to be played to figure out the 16th regions toughest district.

Morgan County 49 Ashland 46
Very impressive win for Head Coach Jeff Brown. He has done a masterful job with a team that has seen injury and illness knock out two starters and then lost 4 starters from last years team due to graduation. He is playing a youthful bunch, but with that said, he still has the regions #1 player in Leslie Eagle which gets a lot of things done for the Lady Cougars. Coach Brown should receive some COY votes for how he has got the Lady Cougars playing. I think Sophomore Tessa Henry had a big game for the Lady Cougars making 5 three pointers?

Morgan County 70 Russell 48
Cougars have now won 3 straight games and they scored 70 points!!! That is a celebration in itself! The young Red Devils show plenty of promise and will be a tough to beat in the coming years. The Cougars age and physical maturity was the diffrence, especially with their pressure. Morgan now 6-5

Rowan County 54 Morgan County 42
Rowan County can do many things...they are not a one trick pony. They can execute in half court when they need to, guard in the h/c, and especially in f/c they are very quick and athletic. Riddle is strong

Rowan County 54 Morgan County 42
Both teams played extremely hard and Rowan is as good as advertised.
-
Rowan County 54 Morgan County 42
Free Throw line hurt the Lady Cougars last night, Rowan was 16 for 20 and the Lady Cougars was just 8 for 13. That was Morgan's 3rd game in 4 nights, so both teams played a little tired.

Morgan County 55 Magoffin County 52
Cougars were down 20-10 early but chipped away at the lead and made great run before the half. They would over take the lead in the 2nd half and held on in the end. Morgan got a steal and layup under :10 to play and then a Magoffin Co. kid turned it over by carrying the basketball. Cougars now even at 5-5 on the season. Coach Neal West does a great job at Magoffin County...great strength and size and they play very hard for him. If they could take a little better care of the basketball they will beat a lot of teams down the stretch and will have a successful post-season.

Leslie Eagle breaks Morgan Co Record
I meant "congratulations" :sssh: This was an outstanding accomplishment for her and for our school. In addition, the previous record holder Leigh Ann Kelly-Wireman got to receive recognition deserved for holding the record for 14 years.

Leslie Eagle breaks Morgan Co Record
Leslie Eagle, broke the all time scoring record (boys and girls) tonight against Pike Co Central. Leslie needed 23 to break the record and ended with a game high 27 points. Leslie now has 1885 points for her career. Leslie is a special player and everybody in Morgan Co congradulates her on an outstanding accomplishment. Morgan outlasted Pike Central 59-58

Again Carson......that's not my point.... OJ had a lot to do with 15 other teams not making to finals either....

Elliott County 77 West Carter 65
Thanks for the recent posts who correcty interpreted what I meant..and my point being was that anything can happen to some of the best teams, it was in no way shape or form to compare them to being better than Elliott... The 2003 team was very good....remember in basketball, it's all about match up's....the 2004 team matched up better with Ashland in the regional finals, than they would have vs. Lewis Co....IMO. I think the '03 team would be a good matchup for the '09 Elliott, but unfortunately we don't have these set ups on PlayStation to see how it would come out. My 2006 reference was that we were (22-3) heading into the district...we were a handful of points away from being undefeated. There were no problems on team, unity was perfect, continuity perfect, very unselfish, all the good intangibles...and played a team in the first round that had issues all year, with nearly everything opposite of what I mentioned above...however, West Carter put together that 1 perfect game and had a go ahead bucket bounce all over rim and bounce in....they beat the Cougars on their home floor fair and square....it only takes 1 night. The two previous meetings in which Morgan rolled over the Comets had no bearing on the outcome of the 1st round of the district...each night is different in KY. high school hoops, it's what is special and fun. Elliott's maturity and basketball I.Q. is off the charts, and that could very well be the difference. They have brought a lot of pride to Elliott County and it's how they have done it that reminds me so much of the good old days here...enjoy those moments!

What about Elliott's Ferguson?
Hence the word "elevate" spindoc...
-
Elliott County 77 West Carter 65
Reminds me a little of the 2003 Morgan Co. team....team was loaded in size and talent...physically the strongest basketball team in the 16th region I have witnessed over the last 20 years...some of the late 80's and early 90 Boyd Co. teams were physical specimens much like Morgan in '03, but the point is, that team had so much pressure to WIN BIG....I recall people doubting the Cougars abilities because we only won by 15 or 16 points...expectations are a good thing...................sometimes! Of course, no expectations would yield a regional title a year later! Funny how the game of basketball works...and then when expectations went up in 2006, the Cougars got popped in district 1st round by West Carter....probably the biggest upset in 16th region over the last decade. West Carter has proven themselves as a school to pull off upsets and play well in crunch time. Football team has been the same way...hats off to them as well.

What about Elliott's Ferguson?
His ability to create off dribble and elevate and shoot makes him attractive at the collegiate level.
