  1. Russell DC Garry Morris has slowed it down many a time.
  2. Couldn't agree more NETS. Sometimes parent egos get in the way of allowing their child to become successful. Not all players can be "The Star", but it doesnt mean they cant be successful or an important part of a greater thing (TEAM). Rumors have run rampant about certain players exiting at Elliott Co over the last year and a half, but none have left. Despite grumblings that are often heard on these msg boards, the Elliott Co team has stayed in tact, and have had 2 successful trips to Rupp. They are currently the dead on favorite to make it a three-peat. Lewis Co. parents might want to take note of how it is done, even at a smaller school, great things can happen, but it cannot be done when parents continue to look for greener pastures (as I stated earlier).
  3. Parents played a role in most of the kids development???????????????? Surely this thread will not be about how parents know how to best develop their kids into "PLAYERS"
  4. Iam not sure what you are getting at KB. Is there a problem in all sports or just hoops? I also know from the thread title and previous post that you mention LC lost its top 3 young athletes. I am very familiar with the program and am not sure which athletes you are talking about. I do know that one player that was already enrolled in MCMS for 2 yrs, decided to stay in the system and attend MCHS. He is no doubt an excellent player that could have helped LC immediately. I also know about the recent 7th grade transfer, he played up a grade in hoops and went to some summer camps with LC's varsity and JV this summer. From everything I heard the kid would have been playing up on the JV/Freshmen teams this year. So this is no doubt a kid that LC was trying to groom for the future. Not sure what the problem was with that. As far as the third player that you mention, I am not sure who you are talking about. As I said, I am very familiar with the program, and to say they lost their best 3 young athletes is confusing. No doubt they lost 2 good ones, just cant place who the third one is. This is not this first time LC has lost athletes to neighboring counties, wont be the last. Sometimes this move works out and sometimes it doesnt, dont want to get into specifics, but you can look back and see that most of the time it doesnt help the student athletes. (Not in all cases) LC has also been on the end of some quality players moving in recently, so all in all, things have a way of evenning out.
  5. I like how parents let their kids go to other schools and basically forget about their OWN teammates and the coaches who have put time into developing them as players. The old the grass is greener on the other side theory. I am sure Coach Hampton and the Lions will survive and be battling again in March.
  6. Mark Maynard usually does the 16th preview.
  7. Anyone have the rankings of teams and players?
  8. Hopefully the Cougars will be back to the competitive status that they were in 2004 and 2005. The Middle School team is 13-0. They defeated Bath Co. Middle 16-6 last week and have a home playoff game this Thursday night. The 7th and 8th grade teams have plenty of talent. It's imperative that they remain together and continue to develop and realize they can help get the program back to competitive status. The middle school team is one of the hardest hitting football teams of that age group I have seen....ever. But a lot can go awry between middle and high school. It is important for future Morgan Co. board and decision makers to capitalize on these prospects. Morgan Co. is long overdue for big time upgrades. New fieldhouse, locker room, weight room and stadium are needed very badly.
  9. An Estill Co. fan! How long has the Benedict kid been playing for Estill County? 10, 12 years? Tough runner! Estill is solid. Enjoyed the games vs. Morgan when they were in our district.
  10. Morgan Co. will once again be huge underdogs in this game. Morgan has shown a slight improvement in moving the football in each of the last two games, early on, but defensively can't stop anybody. Last year Blandon Clemons touched it 4-5 times and scored on every touch...hopefully we can tackle Aaron Ashby-Boyd or Zak Metz a few times. Bath is a sound football team and have come a long way with their program from where it was about 4years ago.
  11. Russell drop out of the district?
  12. GC is CLEARLY the 63rd district favorite this year.
  13. It will be this year but last year they played zone the majority of the year. Coach Humphrey is great at adapting to the players he has at his disposal.
  14. Tuesday November 25th 430 Rose Hill vs Lewis County 600 Bracken County vs Russell 730 Mason County vs Greenup County 900 Elliott County vs Clark County
  15. You must be on "track" to graduate. If you fall off track, you are ineligible.
  16. There are several schools that have high respect for Scott H.S. because of head coach Brad Carr. He would be welcomed at a lot of places to be head coach. Very well prepared and solid coach.
  17. I really like Russell High School's website. Morgan Co. athletics website is newly created and still being updated.. http://www.cougarathletics.net
  18. You got it! Good work...I believe the 1986 game was an Morgan Co. OT win at Prestonsburg. Morgan kicked a FG in OT to win. This also "might" have been one of WYMT-TV's first televised H.S. football games. Somebody check and see if it was, I do remember the game being televised one of those years at P'burg. Another battle was the 29-22 win Prestonsburg had over Morgan Co. in 1991 at Morgan County. Morgan Co. started the 4th quarter behind 21-14 and drove the football downfield on a 10 minute drive consuming nearly the entire quarter. Derrick Finch plunged in from 1 yard out to give the Cougars the 22-21 lead after the 2 point conversion....I think it was current Prestonsburg Assistant Coach James Derossett who caught a pass from Aaron Tucker from about 45 or 50 yards inside a minute to play to win the game for Prestonsburg.
  19. OneiJoe, you must have the 7-6 confused with another year...I have researched that season and remember the game quite well also. A dropped punt by Morgan Co. deep in their own territory may have even been go-ahead score for P'burg that game...here is a complete recap of the 1983 Cougar footbal season... Morgan County 21 Greenup County 0 Morgan County 38 Raceland 6 Morgan County 40 Lawrence County 14 Morgan County 20 Bath County 15 (Morgan had over 200 yards in penalies) Morgan County 26 Breathitt County 19 Morgan County 14 Prestonsburg 21 (Sorghum Bowl) Morgan County 47 Sheldon Clark 20 Morgan County 33 Rowan County 8 Morgan County 28 Belfry 22 Morgan County 6 Boyd County 27 (Bill Allen DNP; injured)
  20. That's what it is all about...let them remember their good times.:thumb:
  21. West has come a long way in a year's time. Randy Wood is one of the brightest coaches in the state and will have his team prepared. They will be the underdog, but look for the triple to give the Jags some problems early.
  22. This Friday night in West Liberty, the annual Sorghum Bowl will honor two outstanding football teams. The 1983 Morgan County Cougars and 1983 Prestonsburg BlackCats. Both teams will have all players introduced prior to kickoff this Friday night. All members of those teams are urged to attend and assemble on the press box side of the field at 6:45. The Cougars will be recognized for their 8-2 season, which ranks as the best winning percentage all-time. The Cougars did manage 8 win seasons in 2004 and also in the 1970's. Morgan County began their year with a 21-0 shutout at Greenup County. The Cougars would also beat Belfry for the first time at home that season, along with powerhouses Lawrence County, Breathitt County, Raceland, and Rowan County. Prestonsburg would finish 10-3 and advance to the playoffs and would eventually lose to Somerset 10-0. At the time, the district consisted of Morgan County, Lawrence County, and Prestonsburg. Only the district winner advanced. In the 1983 Sorghum Bowl, Morgan County and Prestonsburg would play an epic battle. With the largest crowd to ever assemble at the field in what many estimate at well over 5,000 (at the ditch), Prestonsburg would capitalize on a Morgan turnover and win in dramatic fashion 21-14. As a 4th grader, I still recall being heartbroken and mad at the Prestonsburg fans for having a sign that they brought that said "KILL BILL"..... At any rate, Morgan County High School would like to honor two outstanding football teams for their accomplishments and for the memories of that game played 25 years ago.
  23. Called sarcasm Painter.
  24. Can Russell win another game? Some of the so-called faithful make it sound like the Devils season is doomed.
