Another eligibity question

Featured Replies

Here is the situation, a freshman does not earn enough credits to become a sophmore, they are now a second year freshman, are they allowed to play sports? Or do they sit out the year and earn enough credits to become a junior and become eligiible?

If this is for someone you know my first piece of advice is to contact the KHSAA to ask.

With that, I'm pretty sure that regardless of them being able to play or not as a 2nd year freshman they still will be done when their class graduates ie her junior year.

I'll try to find some more info.

How many credits are required to graduate? I ask because the following bylaw says the student must have earned 20% of the required graduation credits to be eligible in their 2nd year.

However if you read C it seems to say that if she student repeats the grade she is ineligible in her repeating year.

Again, contact the KHSAA.

You must be on "track" to graduate. If you fall off track, you are ineligible.

If you don't have enough credits to be a SO, aren't you just failed and kept a freshman? I didn't realize there was a gray area.

There is a one time re-instatement clause that allows you to be eligible in the year following your ineligible year if you earn a certain % of the credits needed for graduation(even if it only makes you a sophomore when you should be a junior) during the year you are sitting out....you must continue to earn the required % each year to remain eligible...it is in the handbook. Obviously you can never get back the year you were repeating.

Bylaw 5 section 2--the percentage is 25% of the districts graduation requirements. So if the district requires 24 and you earn 6 credits during the year you are repeating...you are eligible..even if you are not back with your graduating class.
