The reality is most of the parents that I know that act this way are totally different people outside the gym or away from the ball field. For the most part they are really supportive of their children and their endeavors. Call the Jeckell and Hyde syndrome.

I wonder how few coaches will be taking this thread and sharing it with their players. There has been some great stuff posted. If you do things right the first time then you usually don't end up having to do it the right way the second time around.

Seeded bermuda takes at the most 14 days to germinate. Once germinated the warm season grass grows very rapidly and could be ready to play on by late August. Should be a fast track.

I agree that sportsmanship starts at home but it also a direct reflection of the coach. The attitude that is expressed is a mirror of how those players act. When a coach shows the expected sportsmanship the team usually reflects the same. I have seen a number of games where a coach whines about every noise and so do the players and within the same game that whining stops and the coach actually coaches the players usually play better and the level of play improves. The old addage - Do you know how to stay out of trouble? - Sit down and keep your mouth shut...

A number of teams throw to the shortstop with runners at 1st and 3rd with the shortstop in effect cutting off the throw in an attempt to get the get the runner at third. It still goes back to what is being said by the players. If you cut that throw and the second baseman applies a fake tag then you also have obstuction. Tough in a two man system.

It will have to do with the umpires interpretation of the vocal obstruction.

You would think that this would be a priority with MLB since pitching at the highest level is at best pretty common.

Theiss from Oldham took a 2 hitter and 2-0 lead into the top of the 7th. Carroll lead off with two hits and the third batter of the inning hit to short and there was an error on the second baseman allowin the first run to score. A ground out put runners at second and third and then Jessie Proctor hit a two run double to right for the 3-2 lead. A hard hit line drive to second started a double play to end the inning for Carroll. Nick Larimore pitched seven strong innings for Carroll giving up 5 hits. Way to go Panthers! Congratulations to Oldham for a good season.

This has been an enjoyable thread to read :ylsuper: but lets also look at several other factors. Hector said when he is told he had a good game he had two good pitchers. Boy is that true. In an average high school game an umpire will see 200 pitches. If he/she misses 8 then is 96% for the game. It is sometimes difficult to have a consistant zone when the pitchers are not consistant. When a pitcher successfully hits spots and even if that spot moves an inch or two throughout the night he is going to get strikes. If you can't hit spots and the game gets long, the umpire may begin to reach for strikes therefore changing the zone. Coaches, players and umpires want the bats to be swinging. Remember that 80% of the games are played on school nights. Most umpires will agree that the bottom of the strike zone is the most difficult place to be consistent. Catchers play a role in this too. They sometimes position themselves in the line of view - what the umpire can't see is going to be a ball. If a catcher is framing pitches and jerks it in or down or up then he just told you that he didn't think the pitch was a strike. It is difficult to find a batters box any more. There are a number of fields that don't even put one down at all. The catcher may never move his glove but he may be 6-8 or more inches off the plate. Everyone but the catcher, umpire and batter have lost any perspective to the pitch. There is a reason the umpire is behind the catcher and not in a dugout or in the stands. Most umpires line up their nose on the inside corner of the plate. A major league umpire tells the story of a game when he was calling balls and strikes. The game rolled along, no complaining about any pitch by either team, and he thought he called a good game. The supervisor of umpires called him either that night or the next day and said the computer said he missed 38 pitches. Anyone is more than welcome to send KHSAA their $50 and get the manuals for the initial open book test to receive their license, attend training camps, join an association, invest in $400 worth of equipment and uniforms and practice this trade of umpiring. The sport needs more willing umpires and not just the ones in the stands.

Lenear went 9 innings for a 7-6 tough win for Owen over Gallatin. Gallatin scored 4 runs in the first two inning and that was the score until the bottom of the sixth when Owen scored 6 runs. Gallatin scored two in the top of the 7th to tie it up. Michael Ogden hit a leadoff double for Owen and scored the winning run two batters later on a single by one of the Perkins boys. In the second game Carroll County defeated Henry County 7-1. Carroll scored a run in the top of the first and in the second inning winning pitcher Nick Larimore lead off the inning with a home run. Henry scored to cut the lead to 3-1 then Carroll pushed across 4 more for the final score. I believe Carroll played errorless ball. Both great games with lots of fan support and big cheering sections.

Players in general are forcing up bad shots. If you don't have a good shot run the play again, there isn't a shot clock yet.
