Elliott County 2009/2010
I agree with what you say and take it objectively all the same, Timmy Knipp is a great high school player who will only get better with physical maturity in the years to come. Don't want to think it but wonder if some of the bashing of Timmy and it seems the whole Elliott team is jealousy for the success of the past four years. Something to think about!

Mason County Basketball
Focusing on music is just an excuse to quit for Doyle. The real reason she quit is because she felt cheated last year with starting the first game(playing alright) and not really seeing much of the court for the rest of the year. Also freshman to be Taylor Allen quit, I don't know why but it came as a big surprise to me. She seemed to have a very promising future and I don't understand the move at all. I would say that the girls program does get cheated at Mason Co., like said before me their assistant coaches are a joke. Maybe lack of support from the administration is a reason for some of the girls quitting but I do think the program is headed in the right direction with Butcher. He has a passion for the game and is going to make them play defense(unlike Buser). I look for Mason Co. to be top 5 in the region this year and who knows what will happen with the region being so wide open.

Elliott County 2009/2010
Tenn Tech gets an A for effort but the have about as much chance signing Timmy Knipp as hitting the lottery! Knipp we go to a high division one school and would expect Coach Cal to make a stop in at the Penny Mart soon!

Best PG next year?
Beckman from Lex Cath is definitely a top 5 pg in the state. He will only be a sophmore next year but is very good. The only reason I wouldn't say he is the best pg is because of lack of experience. With the departure of Sanford it should be his team and everybody will see what he has.

Elliott County 2009/2010
As stated before Cody Nickell is the key for Elliott and I totally agree along with Faulkner and Ison. With Knipp there is not alot of unknown and but with the three mentioned before there is. Just don't overlook these boys or Mr. Knipp because the cupboard is not empty and the map to Rupp has not been thrown away in Sandy Hook!

Elliott County 2009/2010
Abused by Elijah Pittman? I think many would agree he more than held his own and the only agruement with this would be Knipp's slight build but as the kid gets older things will balance out in that regard. I would have to say his defense is his greatest asset: he either blocks your shot or alters it with all the while getting inside your head the whole game. When Ballard came to Sandy Hook their kids where scared to death of Timmy after 10 minutes of him sending their shots everywhere. No way is Guyn or Jackson ahead of Timmy Knipp!

Elliott County 2009/2010
For those who claim he isn't the best I ask how many times have you watched him play? Timmy Knipp could probably play all five positions on the floor, at his height who else in the state could do that. His jump shot is fluid, mechanically sound handles the ball good and can go down low to dominate by blocking shots or altering many! This kid is the real deal and like I stated earlier he doesn't get the needed respect he has earned!

Elliott County 2009/2010
I upgrade him from being the best player in the region to the best player in the STATE! Don't understand why Timmy doesn't get the respect he deserves for being one of the best this state has to offer. The Lions will be right back in the hunt next year if the Ison kid improves some and the point guard situation is taken care of. Remember they will start two kids with height of 6'8 and 6'6 next year--impressive for high school ball!

Chad Persinger to be named new Bracken Boy's Head Coach
In the past Bracken Co. has tried to go out of county and get a coach and you see how that has worked out. The parents in Bracken Co. are pathetic and out of town coaches just aren't going to stay around. Like it was said above no one will work harder than Chad and he wont be leaving for another position. He has wanted this position for some time and now he gets the opportunity to see what he can do with it. I know he will have a lot more passion than the past coaches so he is already an improvement. Chad make us Milfordians Proud Baby!!

Geoff Cody hired at Paris
Would the story have to center around the infamous Pitino call to Corey when Corey was a little nailed down if you catch my drift? If anybody has ever heard anything about Corey I know you have heard this rumor, pretty amusing and shows just how talented he was!
-
Geoff Cody hired at Paris
Then you have never seen Corey Williams play or don't remember him, saying he was one of the best to play ever in Kentucky would not be laying it on. I've heard his coach Russ Day say many times Corey could have played in the NBA without question had it not been for off the court issues. I've even heard stories of him jumping over a Deming player for a dunk in Dirt Bowl game, just a man among boys who started in the 8th grade.

Geoff Cody hired at Paris
Above is in reference to the talent that has came out of Paris/Bourbon Co. High Schools.

Geoff Cody hired at Paris
Well here is a quick list: Derek Robinson-Western Chez Marks- Morehead Preston LeMaster-UK Alvin Sims-Louisville Clinton Sims-Boston College then Eastern Corey Williams-maybe the greatest player ever to play in the tenth region! Kinda the Lloyd Daniels of his day! Jason Earlywine- rated in the top 10 of his class nationally during freshman year, didn't go D-1 but still something to hang your hat on.

Ashland 2009/2010
Agree with you Panther, don't know if the administration will cut him some slack because he had no real chance with Elliott county in the region but time will tell. Ashland is kinda like UK with the expectations: either win, win big or hit the door!
-
Paris Job
That's the million dollar question: why has there been such a talent drop off with Bourbon/Paris in the last decade? Never thought it would dip this low! Look how may D-1 players came out of Bourbon/Paris before the dip in talent.

Ashland 2009/2010
The real question is how much time does Buddy have left to get the Tomcats to Rupp Arena? Is the seat hot yet?
-
Up and Coming Big Men in KY
Add the Ison kid from Elliott County also to the list, if he can improve on certain things with his size and strength I think he could turn into a real nice "high school" big man.

Could The Arena in Corbin begin hosting the 13th region tourney?
No real comparison to the 10th and 13th region here, The Mason County Fieldhouse is the capitol building of tenth region hoops and the tournament should be played there year in year out! For the record I'm not a Mason County fan but Maysville is the only place to hold the tournament IMO and many others! As for the 13th they where on a rotation so if they choose to rotate through Corbin so be it. There's only one regional tournament that holds the "elite" atmosphere and that is the 10th--at the Fieldhouse and hopefully the powers that be will wise up and send it back there. FOREVER

Highlands Coaching Candidates?
What about James "Buddy" Biggs I believe he has ties to the Northern Kentucky area, only question is has the star been dimmed in the last couple of years. I never thought he would be totally happy at Ashland, thought him taking that job was out of desparation to what Pendleton had coming back in 07!

Best Kentucky High School Team
I've always said Scott county 98-99 would have went down as the best in Kentucky history but that thumping by Ballard erased that! Really unfortunate because I think that was just an off night by the Cardinals that snowballed quickly in the form of Brandon Bender dunks.
-
Best Kentucky High School Team
The Generals didn't even win the district that year as far as I recall, even winning the state that has to tack the luster off being the greatest team in the last 40 years. From 1960 to the present I would have to say Ashland in the early sixties or Fairdale who won three state tournies in 5 years!

2009-10 Sweet 16 teams?
Also the addition of Logan Manship from Montgomery County should help boost the inside game for Mason County.
-
Elliott County from 1st to ? in the 16th next season?
There will definately be a drop off next year but if Timmy stays and Craig Faulkner develops into a legit point guard we could see this team right back in Rupp next year! Ison needs to drop 15 pounds and work on being more mobile around the goal with the Griffith kid picking up some slack. The cupboard is not bare but some work has to be done!

Holmes 67 Elliott County 57
Congratulations to the Elliott county team, community and especially everybodys favorite Dale Ferguson! This team has transcended everything about basketball and took anybody who witnessed them from Pikeville to Paducah's heart. I will say this: COVINGTON HOLMES MIGHT BE KENTUCKY'S CHAMPION BUT THE ELLIOTT COUNTY LIONS ARE KENTUCKY'S TEAM!

Rank the Sweet 16 Teams
You all can talk about how the 9th region teams are slowing it down or whatever else. The fact is that Holmes is not playing good right now. I saw them play Scott Co. and they looked very impressive but they aren't playing as good now as they were then. Pittman was dominating in December and January but here lately hasn't done as much. Also as the beginning of the season Riley couldn't miss but he was no where to be found last night. Maybe Holmes can get it together but as of right now they would not be my favorite to win it all. My top 5 in terms of chances to win it all would be Eastern(not because I think they are the best team but because of the draw), Elliott, Holmes(because of the experience and what they are capable of but they better turn it up), Mason Co, Shelby Valley.
