I just can't get over Lee Evans being an offensive coach and couldn't see that Belfry wasn't even bothering to cover the pass. But no.9 would've ran down any pass we could have completed, still they weren't covering it.

I dodn't like saying negative on here when talking about coaches, but Boyd County's coaches gift wrapped this one for the Pirates. They let Varney run wild just like Matt Thomas did 2 years ago. They failed to make any half time adjustments, and Belfry all but begged Boyd County to pass with no safteys back, yet Boyd County still insisted on running the ball with Belfry crowding the line. I think Ashland will roll over both of these teams. I'm just glad Belfry gets them 1st.

Boyd County actually has a winning record against Belfry, I found that to be a bit of a surprise, but Boyd County has always played their best football against them. I think Belfry takes this one however, this is not the same Lions team that found ways to win in the past. Last year we were unable to do anything without Zac. We don't have anyone to replace what we've lost in other positions as far as that goes. We have a very good quarterback and a couple guys who run hard, but the receivers are dropping the ball layed right in their hands. The defense seems to be tackling better, but we won't know how much better untill they've played a few games.

I recall a district game against a Lexington team where matney ran the score up because he pulledhis starters and the other team didn't immeadiately pull theirs. Isn't this what just happened to him? I wasnt there, but sounds like the old "What comes around" thing to me. But I believe firmly in putting in 2nd and 3rd string and having them run just as if the game were 0-0, that's how you prepare for next year, or even injuries this year.

I like Fairview in this one. The long drive may hurt BC a little, but I think the Eagles will be somewhat improved from last year. I'm not sure how strong the offense will be, but they are getting good at scoring when they need to. And parking is a premium when the Rams come a calling, should be plenty of space in the back lot, there is when Boyd County comes to Fairview.

If the Rams play like they did in the last 5 minutes of the Boyd County game, they will keep it respectable. If not, the Tomcats will run wild. And there can't be any of this waiting untill the end of the game to start playing, it will take 4 quarters of all out football effort to keep this one close for Raceland. This is a much better Ashland team from a year ago, and we know Raceland took some heavy casualties at graduation. The Rams have to find a way to contain Ashlands speed or they will have more than a 12 point defecit to overcome in the 4th quarter.

I'm going with Ashland here for 3 reasons. 1- Speed 2- Speed 3- Speed If you can't catch a cat, you can't beat a cat. Ashland will be alot better upfront than Boyd County, so I think the speed will be a big factor.

This was one of those games that shows you haven't beaten the Rams untill you have more points and no time on the clock. Our Lions thought they had it with a 12 point lead and only 5 minutes left. Raceland plays 4 quarters of football and we don't, this is what almost cost us the Fairview game last year. The Lions really need to work on this problem. But I was listening to the game at work, so I didn't get to see it. May just be that Raceland didn't actually start playing untill the last 5 minutes.

I'm going with GC in this one. If Rowan does win, I'll probably start giving them a little more faith. The Vikings have what it takes to become a winning program, but they have to start goining into games believing they can win, when they do that they'll start winning district titles.

I'll have to say Boyle County looks to be the real deal, but they need to be careful about running the score up. If they find themselves having to play Tennessee's powerhouses just to fill their schedule, that would be a bit tough. You don't want to have to travel several hours to another state and play a tough football team because you scarred all the local teams off. My brother coaches in West Virginia, and that happened to them. They had to travel all the way to western Ohio to play a game. They lost, bade. They also went to the state finals that same season. You want to keep your options open.

Congrats to the Rams on the road victory. Not to sound like a bad person, but I'm glad the Rams weren't 100% healthy tonight or this may have been a blow out. Alot of heart there in Raceland.

I think I would like this game better if the Rams were healthy, But I still believe they'll give us all we want. Raceland players seem to know football inside and out about the time they learn to walk. With this being the season opener, The Rams getting hammered from graduation, I had my Lions picked to win at home. Now, with the injuries, it's hard to imagine what Coach Vanderhoof is thinking right now. I have a feeling that Raceland still finds a way to make a game of it, possibly, i hope not, but just maybe even finding a way to pull out a win over my Lions.

Just as Fairview's coach had predicted. Good win for the Eagles.

From the sound of things I think Raceland maybe glad they didn't get Ashland on the opener this year. Ashland seems to have winning on their minds.

I'm not surprised that I was wrong, but I am shocked at how wrong I was. If Boyle Countyhas any competition in 4A then the golden Eagles are in trouble. I don't think Johnson Central has much to worry about, they definitly ran into a very good football team.

I'm glad to see the Bulldogs get their bite back. I had them picked for our district since the end of last season. But the district still has yet to be played, I'm sure they'll prove me right.

I'm hearing all about the great run defense at Boyle County and the very potent running game at Johnson Central. My question is this, can Boyle score on Johnson Central? I was at Boyd County when we were all defense and no offense and can tell you a 3-0 los is still a loss. I'm not a Golden Eagles fan by no means, but don't think they will just lay down so you can walk into the end zone. Over the last few years Johnson cental has gotten pretty good at stopping the other team from scoring, this is not a group that only knows how to score.

I have to go with the Tomcats here. I'm not giving a score on first games, I usually won't give on e on the 8th game as far as that goes, but the Muskies are sure to come ready to play and Ashland knows it. I am a firm believer in coach Hart and his ability. I've heard alot of Asland fans giving Leon Hart alot of disrespect. They didn't look at the fact he was dealing with one of Ashland's biggest talent droughts. Dane Damaron had said when he was at Boyd County that he has never seen a coach make half time adjustments like Coach Hart. I knew who Coach Hart was when Ashland got him and I believe that the talent is comming back in Ashland. I see alot of wins for Ashland in the future, and I see it starting Friday night.

I'm going to say Boyd County takes this one. If it were the 3rd or 4th game the Rams would likley run away with it. With graduation losses and injured players I think Raceland is lucky to start with Boyd County rather than one of the games that is more important to them like Ashland, Russell, or even dare I say Fairview. I'm sure the rams would love to win this one, as we all know how they love winning, it's what they do best. Even with low numbers at Boyd County, they have an early season advantage here, if they don't take this advantage and get a good win early then they have a long season ahead of them.

I don't mean to sound negative towards the Lions, I just meant to say if the numbers are that low, I hope that it's not due to the lack of success. They have had good teams over the last few years and could be great. The only thing between them and greatness last season was arm tackles and both O-line and D-line play. The line needs to be ore aggressive and quit standing straight up when the ball is hiked.

I'm just saying that number sounds a little low. We only lost 16 playes to graduation out of 44 players 10 through 12 grades. I have no idea how many freshmen we had last year, nor do I know about the freshmen this year. Boyd County has the freshmen on their own roster. I doubt that we would watch this program die out completely. MY generation and earlier grew up with this being one of the states top powerhouse programs. I just hope that with them not being anywhere near what they once were, that they don't start thinking they will never get it back.

I can't see that being an accurate number. Between sophmores and juniors last year we had 28 players on the roster. I can't believe that there will only be 7 player between the sophmore and freshmen combined. We didn't have many freshmen last year, but if there are only 35 players 9 through 12 this year, then football is about to die out at Boyd County.

I look for the Dawgs to win the district this year. I am a Boyd County fan through and through, but with 7 turnoevers, 4 of wich were interceptions in the end zone. We were still looking at the possibility of giving them a win with less than 5 minutes in the game. The Bulldogs are returning almost everybody and som have some solid transfers comming in. East Carter should be better, but not enough. Rowan County has been lookig better the last couple of years and should not be overlooked. Greenup County is a bit of a mystery to me with a new coach. And my Lions have no defense or line play. I truly believe the Dawgs, more than ever control their own destiny. They are very aggressive and play with all their heart. I don't think this district can hold them down any longer. Just how I feel, can't overlook what is right in front of my face.

I think it may be a little more popular than what most expect mostly due to both UK and Louisville being pass oriented and we love both out cats and our cards.

I'm not going to jinx everyone by posting my ranking, but Lawrence has almost the whole team returning from last season, who may have lost every game but but was in 8 of them going into the last 5 minutes of the game. They also have a few transfers comming in this season. My neighbor got a look at them and said they are looking much better this year...so far.
