Agree with French especially since he put in his 2's. It was not running up the score.

I wasn’t at the game, but I would say no. The article makes several good points, one being that JC has been on the other end of the spectrum several times before and that Boyles second team offense was scoring against JCs first team defense.

Seems like sour grapes to me.

It happened the other way, too. Matney expressed displeasure in Paintsville dropping Central last year (in the local paper). But like most coaches, Central's is more comfortable winning by huge margins than losing the same way.

Coach Matney just doesn't keep his thoughts to himself as much as most others.

I wasn't at the game and do not know any details of the game.

There is no such thing as running up the score. Losing by one point in overtime or losing by 50 points are both losses in the record book.......neither one hurts more than the other.

I don't really classify winning 48-7 with your reserves in the game as running up the score. I wasn't at the game, so I can't state a true opinion, but normally running up the score would be like 65-0 with your top players in the majority of the game.

Poor loser .

Matney has something to say everytime he gets beat and he seems to buy out of every contract that he thinks might get him a loss at least IMHO, but look at the history there.

I totally agree.

It is hard for anyone not at the game to answer yes or no to the question "Did he run up the score?" I doubt that you would become the head football coach at a school with as much tradition as Boyle County and not be a pretty classy guy. I think a trick play (i.e. double reverse, hook & ladder, tackle eligable, double pass, etc.) even with your second team when the game is well in hand is a bit much. But if you hand an inside reverse or throw a common route with reserves, well that is just part of football. I hope nothing bad was intended by either side and that everything works itself out. This could be a good game for both sides in the future.

I was there and there was not any of that going on. Johnson Central stacked the line of scrimmage with their first teamers and came hard after the ball carrier. On 3rd. and 7 Boyle's 2nd. team ran a pass and Johnson Central got burnt. Plain and simple.

I've lost all respect for Johnson Central's coach. IMO he's like a bully that got beat up and didn't like it.

Matney also likes to get teams to come to him and make the long trip, and promise a two year deal, and buy out the second year after they got the home game.

The response from Matney does not surprise me one bit.

Here is another reason why I like Mark Scenters at Garrard County

(French)“There’s nothing you can do about it. It’s just one of those things that happens. Next year it might be the complete opposite. They may get the breaks and get us down.”

That’s the attitude Garrard County coach Mark Scenters had after his team lost 47-10 to Anderson County after trailing 34-3 after three quarters. Anderson’s top offense produced a score early in the final frame and then the second-team offense got another score before Garrard scored.

Scenters talked about what his team had to do to improve, not buying his way out of the game at Anderson in 2010.

Remember that Matney was the same guy that refused to honor the agreement between coaches in a former 4A district on exchanging tapes. No matter, ... plenty of teams were offering their game tapes vs JCHS to upcoming Matney opponents.

I agree with Wireman and wouldn't even consider this score as running the score up. I saw a game several years ago where a team won 63-6 (or something in that range) and the standout players never saw the field in the 2nd half. Every player on the team saw significant gametime, but the opponent could not stop them.

Sounds right to me!
