This is absolutely ridiculous. 48-7 is hardly running up the score. I have the philosophy that if you can score 80, then score 81. A coach shouldn't stop doing what his team does best, because the other team is being out coached. I would also expect the teaming being beat by 65 or more, to try and run the score up on me next time we played, and if successful at then, congratulations to that team.

 

We as a society are way too worried about an athletes feelings, then playing the game.

I should have read this thread before posting in the Boyle vs. Rockcastle one. I’m laughing along with you on this one Scribe. In the Boyle game thread, someone made the comment “what goes around comes around”…Matney has been suspect on more than one occasion about padding a lead. I’m still very disappointed to hear that JC has backed out of this commitment to play Boyle again…(cluck-cluck)

 

We should all probably reserve judgement until they actually write a check to get out of the game. Every comment to my knowledge was made right after the game. Has anything been said further in Johnson County? He might change his mind and realize to get over that quarterfinal hump you have to play the best and see the value in the game afterall. I personally was looking forward to the return trip to play on their new turf.

For real...personally, I think it would be much more humiliating to start taking knees well before the game was over to keep from scoring. That's basically saying, "The only way we can keep ourselves from scoring is to quit playing."

This was not running up the score. Look through some of the teams records over the last few years, and not just these two. Look at the various classes and districts and you see scores like this quite often. As long as you do not have the starters in the game the whole time, it is not running up the score. The second team, JV or freshmen, whoever is playing gain a great deal of experience from being able to play. They should be able to play just as hard as the opposing team. If one team has an issue with this, go back to the practice field and correct the mistakes that were made.

But I believe firmly in putting in 2nd and 3rd string and having them run just as if the game were 0-0, that's how you prepare for next year, or even injuries this year.

 

This is so true. I firmly believe this is one of those reasons why Fort Campbell has been successfull the last few years, the Falcons starters put the team in a position where the younger guys get the needed experience in games, which helps out a bunch for later in the season in the event of injuries or for next year.

Boyle County was up to it again tonight. They ran it up against Rockcastle County tonight. :lol:

Last year Owensboro was beating Daviess Co 34-20 late in the 4th when Owensboro had just scored to make 34-20 and on the kickoff OHS's kicker was injured on the kickoff and the doctor was looking at him on the sideline and the very first play for DC was intercepted and returned for a TD not know his kicker was injured the team lined up for the PAT then had to call a timeout because the coach finally sees his kicker is laying on the ground with a trainer and doctor looking at him so after the timeout and not having a kicker they halfway go for 2 because of not having a kicker. DC's coach was livid they had a thread about it on that other site and after seeing the replay of the game on TV all worked out.

 

I am saying this because sometimes during a game you do not know the situation that may totally be unintended by a coach or sometimes they do something because they have no choice at the time.

 

Also Owensboro didn't even get the 2 points they just snapped it and ran a QB keeper straight up the middle.

Since this thread and discussion has hung around so long, I will throw in a quote from Beechwood's coach Noel Rash after his beat down yesterday.

 

"...you can hem and haw and throw your hat. We didn't do any of that. We've got to go back and lick our wounds and get better."
