Bowling Green...Tell us what to expect out of them
Ed replied to Hellbird's topic in KY Football (High School)
John Hardin held them to 6 points for 46 minutes and 30 seconds. Bg had very little offense outside of 2 big plays. This might give you a little hope. -
Cooper/Bowling Green 5A State Championship (Predictions)
Ed replied to katbird's topic in KY Football (High School)
I know this is a Bg Cooper thread, but I wanted to comment on John Hardin being gassed friday night. That is not a true statement. They were fresh. John only had 3 kids going both ways. They dominated Bowling Green everwhere except on the scoreboard. It took a trick play to beat them. The purples were held to only 6 points at that point in the game. They were tricked but not gassed. -
5A Playoffs: Warren Central at Bowling Green
Ed replied to gchs_uk9's topic in KY Football (High School)
I am assuming without it's top receiver this week that WC will be very limited in the passing game. I can't see them being able to beat BG in a ground and pound game. I think the score will be similar to last time. I will predict 31-7. -
John will be down the next 2 years. Heavy graduation.
-
I would say they only had one beat down guru and that was last year to Bg. They beat Bg in 2009 to face a top 5 nationally ranked highlands team in the finals. Highlands destroyed everyone that year. Christian co beat them by one td in 2010 to advance to the finals. When they lose they are losing to historically strong programs.

5A #3 Warren Central / Barren County Predictions
Ed replied to DragonFire's topic in KY Football (High School)
Dragon Fire I thought Dub C would have beaten Meade Co. worse than they did. I wasn't able to see the game. What were your thoughts? I thought they would have scored more than 21 points. Turnovers?- 10 replies

Marty Jaggers named AD at Trigg County
Ed replied to The Scribe's topic in KY Football (High School)
I don't think "conversating" is a real word. -
I don't believe the new school (Thomas Nelson) is going to have a turf field so E-town will be the second around the area to get one. Congratulations to the E-town school system for taking this step. I think this will be a tremendous boost for their program. This is one school system that does a good job supporting all of their athletic programs.

Let Trinity win is a couple of more times, and you will see a cry for a change.

John Hardin 49 Johnson Central 36
Ed replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Someone told me that Johnson Central had three freshmen starting for them. Was this a fact or just a rumor? -
I don't think he was criticizing the tournament, he was only making an observation. I too think that B-Ball is down all over the state this year. Oldham beat Knot-Central 36-34, what kind of score is that. You can make excuses about Rupp Arena, but there are too many low scores this year for that excuse to hold up.

I thought Bethlehem did a pretty good job the first half. At one point in the second half Bethlehem made two trips down the floor, and ran about 3-4 minutes off the clock, and never got a shot off. It looked like they were in some sort of stall offense. Some Bethlehem fans told me that #23 (Mudd) was one of their best shooters, but it seemed like he was on the bench for long stretches last night. Was something wrong with him?

1st Round Winners: Taylor John North Marion
-
I really think everyone else is playing second place. After watching several games in the 5th region this year I think John Hardin will win the region. They are the hottest team at this time with good guard play. Bethlehem could actually give them a game because they won't be silly enough to try to play them in a man to man defense. North has the most talent, but they are so undisciplined, and they play very little defense. Bardstown relies too much on the 3 pt. shot, and B-town, North, and John are the only 3 serious contenders for the region title.

Are more technicals being called?
Ed replied to Jim Schue's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I happened to go to the 17th district game last night, and saw what happened. John Hardin was awarded 8 FTs for technicals on Central Hardin. The first was on a player for hanging on the rim after a dunk. Then the coach rushed the floor and one was assessed to him. After continuing to argue another was put on him. The player said something from the bench and another was put on him. I thought the coach was supposed to leave after two technicals, but the CH coach never left the bench. -
North Hardin 61 Elizabethtown 58
Ed replied to Jim Schue's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I don't think it makes any difference who wins this game Sat. night between NH and JH because they will both be playing again in the regional finals. -
Don't know much about Bethlehem so I have to ask this question? Do they really have a chance against the 17th district teams? I know they have a lot of wins, but some say their schedule was pretty weak. I'm not knocking them. I just didn't know how they would stack up against some of the other fifth region teams.
-
E-town could knock off NH, but it will be a good game either way. If NH wins against E-town look for a JH/NH regional final.
-
It may take a while but the people of Nelson Co. may be happy with this split. It will keep them from having to play in the top class. It's just so much tougher to win at the 5A or 6A level then it is at 3A or 4A. You just don't need as many players at these lower levels.
-
I've seen them all play, and I think John Hardin will win the region.
-
North lost 5 players early in the season for a "major rules violation" and that's all I'll say about that. They were out for 9 weeks. They are back now and the team is winning again. They lost something like 14 of 15 without them.
-
Sorry, but the 5th region is not as "rugged as it gets" in KY. It is a relatively weak region, with a few good teams. Bardstown and John Hardin are probably the two best overall teams. North Hardin, now that all of their suspended players have returned, is a good team. Etown is another good team. All the rest are a notch below. Whoever wins the 5th is not really a contender for the state title.
