  1. This thread could get out of hand very quickly. HC, NCC, and BW for that matter are not typical for 1A and 2A football teams. Their rosters are not limited to kids from one or two small communities. They have kids from all over. NCC draws kids from all over Campbell County. To me that makes these schools very atypical of most small schools. As I replied to you in another thread about SK beating Beechwood, why would a big school ever want to schedule a smaller school? Its a no win situation for them. I do see the gap between big schools and small schools growing. Your Bellevues, Newports, that were once highly competitive with big schools no longer can keep up and the powers have taken some hits this year. Most of these teams do not play the big schools anymore for this reason. There is a huge difference between a 5A, 6A game/schedule and a 1A/2A game/schedule. Go watch Ludlow play Dayton and then watch Conner play Boone and tell me there is not a huge gap already. Its my contention that most small schools would get pounded and don't schedule already. The difference with Ohio is there are so many more schools playing football. Dvision 1 doesn't have to play down to fill out their schedule like they do in Kentucky. So the big schools, particularly in NKY, will have to schedule the traditional powers in 1A/2A or play some team from down state and make no gate money. Do you think SK or Boone wanted to play all those teams from out of the area? It was a good win for SK against BW and a good win for Campbell against NCC. Embarressed NCC scored 16 points? give me a break. They are a great program. Are the big schools at T, X or Highlands level? No, but who is?
  2. No. Highlands, Cov.Cath. Then Cooper/Conner. That should be a great game. What a job Coach Borchers has done.
  3. Scary to think how good Trinity is and what the final score might be in the 6A final this year. Highlands is great, Scott County is good, Trinity is special.
  4. I hate it when people say this crap. Why then should a big school ever schedule a small school with this mentality. Its an absolute no win situation. I don't care what class Beechwood is or who did and did not play. They are a great program and this is a good win for SK. Congrats.
  5. They are 5A. CAmpbell, Boone, SK, Dixie, Ryle make up 6A in N.KY.
  6. Each of the schools mentioned have less than half of the enrollment of CCHS. They currently have 3 to 4 gym/health classes trying to use one gym and two health classrooms. The additions will help fix this issue as well as expand current PE offerings, which the video game playing, texting students can use. In fact they PE department has expanded by 1/2 a teacher next year which will probably be full time the following school year. Compare them to other schools their size and they were lacking. Dixie 2, SK 2, Boone 3, etc. It will also help all sports teams be able to practice on campus. Right now some have to leave campus and go to elementary schools to practice. It will help off season training for sports. Football, tennis, baskeball players will no longer be using hallways to work out in. It made no sense when it was built to only have one gym when the school they were leaving had 2. The gym and athletic field are part of an overall project of a vocational school and agriculture area. It's a good move for the district.
  7. No schools on that list has a 1000 girls to pick from.
  8. But everyone always said big school (4A, now 6A) stinks in N.KY. The change here was when the KHSAA started rotating what districts you play in the playoffs. Till this time the N.Ky. big school district was always matched with Trinity. Now they rotate who they play and you have seen many teams from the N.Ky. district win games in the playoffs. Trinity's strength should not be an indictment of N.Ky. big school fottball. No doubt it was a little down this year but not as bad as some think. Boone County always plays Scott County well. Good luck Rebels.
  9. You hope we can teach kids to try and overcome all obstacles no matter how great they seem. Isn't this a great life lesson taught to us by sports and football. What message do we send when we tell them you have no shot so we aren't going to play these games anymore. I tell you I'm rooting for Boone County, 4 seed, just as I did SK, 4 seed, the year they went to the finals. Perhaps, there are a lot of really good football teams and a few exceptional ones that overshadow the others so much that the picture becomes clouded. It's not about the destination, it's about the jouney and what you learn along the way.
  10. Amen! No way They should play these games. 2, 3, and 4 seeds don't deserve to be in the playoffs. Oh wait isn't Boone a 4 seed and Holy Cross a 2 seed. Oops, scratch that.
  11. Who does honestly? However they were a 4 seed the year they went to the finals.
  12. Then why is it OK for every other athlete in every other sport in the state to automatically be in the playoffs? Yes, you will have a lot of lopsided scores but you might have a few 4 seeds win and one may even make a state final. Just ask Simon Kenton. I am sure there are some first round matchups in district play in basketball that are lopsidied as well, but they still play or some cross country runners who have no chance in their regional meet but they still get to run. Are there too many classes in football? Yes. Does it hurt anyone to have more teams in the playoffs? No
  13. All 6 A teams are playoff teams.
  14. Still double of Conner and from the whole county (counties) not just part. If you combined all the good players together from Boone County Schools (Ryle, Boone, and Conner) not to mention the ones lost to Cov. Cath. then you might see Trinity, St. X quality depth.
  15. You can't use Highlands, Beechwood, Ft. Campbell, and others as comparisons to Trinity and St. X. They are not in their class (6A). If they were I gather to say they would be in the same boat as everyone else in that class. Could they play with them, yes, probably better than a lot of other 6A schools are doing. But in the end the result would be the same the majority of the time. This in essence is the problem if there is one. No other progams in the state are in their class. Unfortunately or fornuately, depending on how you look at it as long as the state says they are 6A, the schools in that class will have to strive to beat them. Deal with it, make another class for them, or separate as the majority of publics tried to do. The state shot down the sepration idea, it's not realistic to make a class of 2, so I guess dealing with it is the only option at this point. I hate hearing becasue you can't beat St.X or Trinity you are not any good. There are a lot of good football teams. It is not about being the best it is about the journey or work to be the best. That is where a football team learns and grows. And you can't tell me that there aren't a lot of football teams on this journey. Football is a great game. It teaches many life lessons and this is one. I admire and respect what they have done. It sets the bar for us all. But I repeat, no one is in their class right now. And before the Highlands faithful attack, play up another class and compete against them each year like the rest of 6 A tries to do.
  16. If numbers have no effect then why do we have classes at all? Let's have one like basketball. Maybe numbers do mean something.
  17. OK if a school "sponsors" fast-pitch what's wrong with having slow-pitch? By the way the one region you harp on does have mostly fast-pitch teams. In fact the state champ or runner up came from a school in this region just last year I think. Should the state sponsor a slow-pitch state championship? NO!, not with the present numbers. Should the schools still playing be allowed? Why not. I like how some of the other states play one (fast or slow) in the fall and one in the spring. It is my understanding that the fast pitch coaches in these states wanted to play slow the other season so their athletes had something to do. The fall would be a great time to play one of these sports. Better weather and more field availability. :thumb:
  18. I think the whole scholarship thing is BS. Because it is a scholarship sport it is the only one that should be played? Less than 4% of all High school athletes participating in sports get scholarships so let's do away with all the sports because there are a whole lot not getting them and they are wasting their time playing the sport. Sports are about being involved in an activity that you can learn many life lessons from such as: hard work, perseverence, cooperation, competition, losing, winning, etc. I think the 96% that don't get scholarships can learn this no matter what sport they are playing, scholarship opportunities or not. So if the schools offer fast pitch to their girls and they still have enough that want to play slow-pitch more power to them. :thumb:
  19. There is no criteria to be top 24. Most coaches will pick their top player. Each school gets one of the 24 and six are elected from a list of players the coach submits if the believe they have more than one player deserving. The coaches vote on the extras. This is how some schools end up with 2 people. It is true you have to be one of the top 24 to be elligible for the "That's My Boy Award." Here is where grades, extra curriculars, etc. come into play. To win it you not only have to be a good player, becasue you get points for being on all-star teams, but you need to be a good student, points here too, and be involved in a lot of extra curriculars, more points. As the other posters said they are all great kids and any would be derserving of the award.
  20. The Penalty must have been accepted. Offensive interference includes a loss of down and since the play was a 4th down it becomes the Camels ball. The announcer was probably confused as well.
