Is it still a sanctioned sport per the KHSAA? Who are the best teams gonna be? Will Campbell Co. be a serious contender?

I know it is no longer sanctioned but this maybe the last year for it . It may have ended last year .I seen the likes of NCC on my daughters schedule .

According to the articles the previous two years, this is the last year of slow-pitch. All teams will be fast pitch after this season.

 

Coachg13207--The reason that you see NCC on your daughter's schedule is that when the decision to phase out slow pitch was made, NCC decided to end it two years early and switch completely to fast pitch. I guess to get ahead of the curve (no pun intended).

I still can't believe schools are still playing slow pitch softball.....

I'm pretty sure that slow pitch is going to go on for a few years. Its just that the KHSAA will not sanction the state championship like it does for other sports.

Why is it good that slow pitch is being pushed out. If schools would open the sport up and offer it, I think you would see more teams throughout the state. I guarantee you that there are girls in every school around the state that would be interested in playing slowpitch if offered that don't play fastpitch.

 

I thought HS sports were supposed to be about the kids. And offering slow pitch would allow more girls to participate. I wish more HS's would offer it.

 

But what happens is that they are afraid that too many of the "athletes" would leave fastpitch to play slow pitch and your talent will be cut in half. So instead of fielding a team in each sport and increasing participation, they don't offer slow pitch so they can be as strong as possible in one sport.

If girls want to play slow pitch, they can go down the the Rec. Dept. and sign up. Fast pitch has taken over at the high school level.

So is HS athletics about scholarships or participation? Isn't it about developing leadership, work ethic, drive to succeed in the athletes? How can that be done with athletes not participating?

 

You know as well as I do one hour of rec league practice and a game per week does not equate into the learning experience they will have in a HS sport.

I totally agree with what you are saying coach, I'm just trying to be realistic. In a perfect world, what you are saying would happen but both of us have been in teaching/coaching long enough to know that's not how it works.
