Slow pitch had two years to send some young kids to pitching school, if you can play defence and slow pitch players can, and you have a good pitcher and catcher small schools kids can play with the big school. It;s not the kids not whanting to play fast pitch it;s the old slow pitch coaches who will not change, it's time for new coaches, they are holding on to slow pitch not the kids.

Here's what doesn't make sense: Those girls can play five and six nights a week the rest of their lives at Softball City or one of the many other complexes in the Greater Cincy area. Why not hone their skills against the best athletes available in fast-pitch? Then, when they move on to their slow-pitch "careers" they have a chance to be dominant and a step ahead of their largely overweight past glory competition.

Maybe they like slow pitch softball because the whole team is involved instead of watching the pitcher strikeout 15 on the way to a one-hitter.

You have not watched a High School game, it might be 3 - 2 or 6-4 but there is a lot of defence.

... yeah, and in girls hoops, everyone shoots the pedastal set shot. The game has developed quite a bit over the past few years. There are your dominant pitchers, obviously, but the hitting has progressed tremendously — especially fundamentals such as bunting and base-stealing — to the point that even the best pitchers must work their hardest against the better teams.

Maybe some of the schools that don't offer slow pitch because if they did they would have to come up with another sport to offer the boys.They have to have equallity you know.

High school sports is probably the most fun any person will have in their lives playing sports. I dont know if you have went to a slow pitch softball tournament for these girls in high school, but they really get into it and is just really fun to watch. When you get to these softball city leagues you dont see this same kind of emotion from the girls...I mean I agree I think every school should have to offer fast pitch, but if they cant field a team, then they should be able to field a slow pitch team if they get enough girls for that. Lets face it there are alot of girls who might not be that good of athletes so it would be hard to play fast pitch, but slow pitch gives them a chance to actually do good, and feel like they succeeded. Also a thing that is overlooked is that there are many fast pitch softball leagus at all when they are growing up. Its most still slow pitch softball in the A.C. levels, so alot of these girls grow up playing slow pitch, so they should be given the opportunity to keep doing that if they want to. If they want to get rid of slow pitch, then they need to get rid of slow pitch at all the A.C. levels too!

The issue is that a lot of these smaller, NKY schools will not be able to field fast pitch teams due to lack of interest. And if they cannot field a team because of this, participation or not, there are going to be Title IX issues that arise. Face it, it one way or another, it's going to hurt girl's athletics in general when it's gone. And I agree, they should have two separate seasons, one in the fall and the other in the spring, but the volleyball Gods in Frankfort, or wherever the KHSAA is, won't allow that one to happen.

The slow pitch teams can hold their own tournament to determine a champion. So maybe that solution will allow the smaller teams to still have participation by students in a sport and the larger schools that field a fast pitch team can continue to offer a slow pitch team for those who want to play.

One can only hope. This gives a chance to kids that usually might not play. Also, I see schools like Cov Cath and St. Henry have added boys sports teams that aren't prominent in KY. CC added LaCrosse and St. H added men's volleyball. I love to see when schools offer more options to kids out there. :thumb:
