What I see in front of us as Kentucky schools are 5 games this year Highlands at Colerain Henry Clay at Lasalle Cov Catholic at Cardinal Mooney Cov Catholic at Elder Cincy St X at Trinity ( Shame on Male, Manual, Boone County, and St X for not scheduling somebody out of state) Cincy St X- coming into the most storied football program in Kentucky at Trinity, with only 4 returning starters, against the best in Kentucky in their opinions, at home, in front of their 5000 Shamrock painted faces and Kentucky officials, representing the best chance for Kentucky high school football to at least get noticed? One Rock supporter says they would "like" to beat them. Guys- for Kentucky, stop hanging your hat on the 2003 St X Win versus Moeller and the 2002 win versus Elder- this year is the opportunity. Highlands can beat Colerain this year and Henry Clay's defense can stop Lasalle, ( good luck Cov Catholic!) why are we as Kentucky just conceding this game? It's 3 months before the championship in Kentucky. Why not win? Does this " it will make us better for the championship" attitude filter down to the players? So the district game against Eastern the next week is more important? Really? Seize the moment and represent Kentucky!! Am I not your buddy? I don't feel the love. :lol: Griffin and Deeds did start many games their junior year. I believe Andrew played some on defense but Luke McDermott, the unsung hero of the defense, especially against Male started at defensive end at one side. Griffin started many games in the offensive line but when T went to the two way lineman later in the season, he got less playing time I believe. Both are solid players that will take the baseball route in college. Both epitomize that second level of football player that develops into winning players by their junior/senior year at Trinity. My initial point was Trinity's team last year had outstanding first level players that will be playing football in college that also were leaders of the team. Stein has tremendous leadership qualities and he will be an outstanding coach someday. The question to the T faithful is not can Whiting and Philips run a 4.5 or faster 40 time-or bench press 400 pounds rather can they be the leaders or will that come from the second level players?

Cmon be serious. Griffey and Dunn are better players but give me a Josh Hamilton or Ryan Freel if you want to win. You can be all world but do you see Whiting and Phillips leading pep rallys like Stein and Weitlauf did last year? They made the other players want to be better- do you see those two as that type of leader or are they the "I'll get my numbers" type of player?

Beatty should be recognized for being the best high school coach on the field in the history of Kentucky high school football for his success over the last 7 years. 3 years with Brohm as a leader certainly helped. But ....I honesty think that 2-3 year starters Robey, Weitlauf, and the Dutton twins plus the best season TD passer in Trinity history ( Stein ) will be missed. With only Kapthammer coming back as a starter on the offensive line, it will tough early for Superman to find daylight like he did against Cincy St Xavier last year. In the end, who knows what 2008 will bring. Understand that Weitlauf was calling the defensive signals on the field as a sophomore in the 2005 championship game. Someone can be faster and bigger than him this year but his leadership and knowledge of the game was essential to T's success the last three years. Does Trinity have a rah rah leader to take his place? Time will tell.

Pretty good analysis of the Louisville teams. I think Male, Eastern, and Bullitt East will be the top teams. David Johns moves over to Eastern from Ballard after sitting out a year to join the pitchers listed above along with Ben Lady. Alphin and Bowles lead Bullitt East. Wilson, Metry, Kelly, and Grisham all return for Male along with a boat load of pitching. Rueff, Berry, Bowling, Littrell, and Brian all return.

I totally agree with the team concept which will cut down on DF's carries too. I would guess Justin Green from Male will be the leading ball carrier.

I believe Jamar is now at Ballard. Tremendous talent but not Trinity type player and student.

Not all Kentucky games but here is my list 1 Trinty 59 Male 56- Enuff Said. 2 1987? Elder 48 Western Hills 47 3 OT at the PIT. A 45 minute delay for an ambulance for an injured player onfield on the Elder TD run gave the Elder coach ( Tom Grippa) time to decide to go for 2 instead of kicking the extra point. With win or loss depending on the outcome, Elder calls a naked bootleg and the Elder QB beat the West High DB to the pylon. 3. Trinity 35 St X 28. Emotional roller coaster goes from son scoring TD for X to son's best friend ending game in OT for T. Still, a tremendously entertaining game for all. 4. 2006 Male 28 St Xavier 27 - Rally by Tigers fall short in the Mud at Last regular season game at Manual Stadium on a missed PAT. Male's QB evaded sacks and sat back for seemingly minutes in and out of the pocket. Vicor Anderson's last game at Manual. 5. 1978 Moeller 23 Elder 19- Nippert Stadium. Elder roared back from a 14-0 deficit to lead 19-14 until MIghty Moe closed the door in the fourth quarter. Elder return of a Kick off created the largest noise of any game I've ever seen. Other great games- 2002 CSAA 8th grade Mt Carmel 12 St Martha 6 Overtime game under the lights ranks as one of the best. I would like to see Ballard win their district with a first year coach and play at home for the first 2 weeks.

I just point out the facts. T has the recipe. Take a look before the recipe got perfected. In 1997, they took on 2 tough teams late, St X( ohio ) and Moeller and played Central- No championship In 1998 they took on two tough teams late and played Central, No championship In 1999 the X game got pushed to game 6, they got beat by X,no championship In 2000, they played Highlands, got beat, no Championship. In 2001-2007. they played 1 or 2 tough games early, nobody in games 6-10, they didn't play Highlands, Male, Lexington Catholic or Central in the regular season, they get championships. They have figured it out. No sour grapes-just admiration from afar. Your schedule is your schedule and it has been successful once you perfected the recipe. I tip my hat.

I am not sure X has to "man up". Last year they came within 32 seconds of giving Highlands the opportunity to tie. There were 2880 seconds in each game resulting in 43200 seconds in the season. For 43,168 seconds, X looked man enough to stop the streak. Quite frankly, Trinity has the recipe for success for 6 out of the last 7 years. Play 1 or two tough teams early. Don't play anyone with a chance to go deep in the playoffs in weeks 6-10 to save injuries. Never play Male, Highlands, Lexington Catholic, or Central in the regular season. Play a Lexington 6A team in week 4 of the playoffs most years. Can't knock them-it has worked great for them. Hopefully someone can stop them some year.

The Big 1-Please! Change 1 play in Males playoff loss in 2006 and any number of plays in an overtime state final game and do you you think T would be a notch just ahead of the other 6A teams? Be serious. It should be the Big 4 now.

What is interesting is the decision before Coach Miller. Do you throw Zach Cox in the semifinals where PRP has bowed out the last two years? Last year they kept Cox back for the finals and he never got to pitch. I wonder if he will throw Trey Harper and repeat the same thinking from last year and keep Cox back for a possible Maronde/Lawrence County matchup?

Batting average stats weren't given and he was down because of a hand injury and the St X schedule but the stat that won't show up is number of potential throwing errors saved by him. I can think of only 1 ball in two years that was thrown over and bounced that he didn't come up with a catch. That's not to say that errors weren't made on throws over his head or off the base but he will be sorely missed for his glove and his quick step off to make it appear that we got the runner.

Former Trinity shortstop and current West Virginia SS Tyler Kuhn was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 15th round ( 450 th pick overall) He led the Big East in hitting this year. Congrats to Tyler and the Shamrock baseball Rocks.

Projected lineup for next year Outfield Spalding, Grayson, Sweeney, Scheler Infield Ferch, Schmeing, Johnston, and Brutscher Catcher Pelham DH or subs Hewitt, Boeckman, Beavin That's 18. Throw in Botner and Herbstreit and that makes 20. Looking forward to taking on CAL!! On serious note, Bullitt East is THE Team next year.

Congratulations to Saint Xavier's 1st baseman Kal Scheler for being named the Player of the Year in the 7th and to John Jefferson for being named Coach of the Year in 2008. It was announced at the St X banquet last night. Hats off to both!
