Anyone have a schedule for Mercer?
4th and long replied to Fast_Tracks's topic in KY Football (High School)
I believe these schools are scheduled but do not know the week they play. Boyle co. Hopkinsville Rockcastle Co. Russell Co. LincolnCo. S.Laural Pulaski Co. Pulaski SW -
Anyone aware of a quality coaches clinic for soccer coaches? Thanks

I don't think the field was nearly as bad as was indicated. I think it was used as leverage to get turf. I agree that distractions never help but I do not think it should have affected the way they played. I am a rebel supporter too but I think the field problems were the least of the teams issues last season. IMO

yes, Boye and Lex Cath was developing into a GREAT rivalry and I was disappointed when they no longer played. I think Boyle will be vastly improved next season and think they will make a nice run. I look forward to seeing the Rebels and Titans part II as well, great atmosphere last year!

Scholarship pulled...What do you think of this?
4th and long replied to RADIO GUY's topic in KY Football (High School)
Not just a D1 problem we have had 3 similar situations of promises made but later they revoked them with 1AA schools. It sure seems like if schools are asking athletes to commit early there should be some guarantees to protect that student athlete. After all some kids are NOT recruited because they are assumed to be already committed and when they find out they are not some other interested schools may have already signed another athlete. Seems like this trend is getting worse! -

I heard that the Rocks may play Mercer Co. next year. Any truth? I think this could be a good game on a regular basis. Anyone know if this game is scheduled? -
I am not nearly as concerned about how many games are played, on which day, as I am about making the championships a bigger production. I'd like to make the players and coaches feel more like they have accomplished something as opposed to playing the game and getting on the bus and heading home. I have been on the carpet numerous times as well as attened the championships as a fan and there seems to be no effort made to accomodate the coaching community nor any extra effort made to make the competing teams feel special. In fact this year the security was so rude to the coaches wives that wanted to be on the field after the game with their husbands that things almost got ugly. Yes, we should have asked for more sideline passes but that is not the pt. Additionally, Cardinal stadium is nice but the locker room facilities are not large enough for halftime. We shared the hallway with the national guard and could hardly move around to talk to our players and make adjustments. I'm not so sure it would not be more fun and a better atmosphere at a smaller venue like EKU or Western than the pizza box. Anyway this is just a thought, I'd like to hear if others feel similarly or am I alone.

when I was growing up most of us were multisport athletes and I do not remember nearly as many injuries, particularly knees, as we see now. I think we were good athletes because we played every sport. Every kid I knew could throw a football, a baseball and shoot a basketball it didn't matter whether you were built like a lineman or a pt guard kids could play. Nowdays we struggle to find more than a handful of kids that can play QB. Now our seasons did not over lap nor were they as long as they are now. I think we do a disservice to our kids by not encouraging them to play more than one sport. I think coaches that try to limit them are only being self-serving and are not as concerned about the athletes well being as they are about their own. IMO

List Your Final Class AA Top 5 for 2006
4th and long replied to All Play No Work's topic in KY Football (High School)
Mercer - State Champions Russell - close second Newport - very good defense Larue Co. - physical, good all around football team Belfry? O. Cath - might have been a fun game to watch. -
I have tried repeatedly to find out how to acquire a copy of the championship games however nobody has a definitive answer. Khsaa says they don't do it, I don't get a response from cable. Does anyone know if or how you can purchase a copy of one of the games? My father could not attend and would love to see the game over Christmas when we go visit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would rather see two games played at smaller venues that create an awsome atmosphere. I think playing at PPJ is over rated. 7,000 fans seem very small in that big stadium. I'd rather play at rawlings with a packed house than PPJ and it seems empty.

Hey KHSAA: How to improve the Championships....
4th and long replied to All Play No Work's topic in KY Football (High School)
Personally, I dislike the spacing of the final games. The small crowds diminish the championship atmosphere. I would prefer to see the games moved to smaller venues i.e. Rawlings stadium, Eastern, Western. I'd rather see the crowds more of a factor. PPJ seems too large for all but 4A. IMO -
2A State Championship: Mercer County 15 Russell 12
4th and long replied to iPapi's topic in KY Football (High School)
What a great game! Both teams had opportunities both teams played hard and the 2A state championship game was everything you hope to see for a championship. Personally, I am tired of blowouts in the finals, this game was a classic. For those of you disparaging the other team it is time to stop. These are HIGH SCHOOL young men that played their hearts out. Merge, no Merge the kids had nothing to do with it. Russell annually plays great football and is well coached, be proud of your accomplishments and come back again next season. With all the negative influences that our kids are exposed to these students athletes spent the last 5 - 6 months working toward a common goal and doing the right thing on the field and in the classroom. It demeans their efforts to publicly degrade either program after such a great game. Undoubtedly the weather affected both teams however they came together and battled for 48 minutes. Mercer County Titans won, congradulations. Russell High school played awsome, congradulations to you as well. -

Mercer County ... the Harrodsburg influence

of course everyone wants to win but obviously the cannot. if mercer wasn't in the title game, i bet there would be people complaining about whoever was in the game for some reason or the other. the kids at mercer didn't get to vote for the merger but they have turned what could have been an ugly situation into a awesome community wide experience. the soccer, baseball, cheerleading, band, volleyball, basketball all have kids that were challenged to overcome all the obstacles of the merger and they have done so with courage and pride. what is done is done. let these kids have this once in a lifetime experience without all of these negative complaints. they have worked their butts off as have their coaches, just let them play. -
Mercer County 43 Owensboro Catholic 0

wow, defense steps up again! I thought from the beginning that Russell and Mercer were on a collision course. Should be a great state championship. Good luck to both teams. -
I think O. Cath gives Mercer a tougher challenge than Trigg. How is the QB from O. Cath?? heard he hurt his arm against Trigg.
-
I think it was evident last night that Mercer is not overlooking anyone or ordering any rings. They were completely focused on the game at hand. In fact this might have been the most emotion since LCA or Boyle Co. And.... Donald Walker did not even play. Pretty scary! I thought the defense really stepped up against a terrific Larue Co. offense. the QB for Larue Chris Singleton??? I think was a very nice athlete. The difference was the inability of Larue defense to even slow down the Titans. Great Effort fellas two central Kentucky teams with opportunities to win it all. Hats off to the Admirals as well. We will be cheering for both teams again Friday.

Larue County (10-2) at Mercer County (12-0)
4th and long replied to Hogtown Pride's topic in KY Football (High School)
Mercer will never have to pass because even if they are down coach jaggers will continue to run the ball. With the backs he has a sweep is as good as a pass. A head or behind Mercer runs the ball. -
I'd add Chris Lewis, LB, to the Mercer Co. duo of Corey Jackson and Brandon Ford
-
Russell 35 Corbin 7

Not living in this part of the state I do not know anything about Trigg co. could someone give me some info on this team. What offense do they run? Defense? players? thanks

Larue County (10-2) at Mercer County (12-0)

Mercer ..................> I see a collition about to happen! I have anticipated this game all season. Granted there is still a lot of football to be played but something tells me these two are destined to play each other. -
Larue County (10-2) at Mercer County (12-0)
4th and long replied to Hogtown Pride's topic in KY Football (High School)
good post orisonspi, I agree Larue must keep Mercer offense off the field. I think Larue is a VERY good opponent for the Titans as they are similar in style to Russell and have the ability to pound the ball. Mercer defense will need to step up like they did against a very good Newport team when they held them 8 plays from the 5 yd. line. I realize I will be in the minority but I think this was the best newport team in the last 5 years. Anyway, if Larue can control the clock and limit silly mistakes this one goes down to the wire. I hope there is a huge crowd for both teams, and may the best team win! -
Is the New Playoff Format Now Better?

I still prefer the old system matching district against district.
